Gone: 90210. Bumped: So You Think You Can Dance

And that Get Smart marathon is out of Saturdays as the channel still tries to get it right.

ELEVEN is making more changes to its Friday and Saturday line-ups.

From next week February 4th 90210 is no more, and So You Think You Can Dance will take its place at 7:30pm.

Repeats of Sex and the City, from the very first episodes will air at 9:20 / 9:55 pm.

TEN has had a bad run with 90210, dumped off its primary channel, briefly re-attempted again in a summer slot, and now out of schedule on its new multichannel.

Meanwhile Get Smart is out of primetime Saturdays from February 5. It will be replaced by Frasier / Everybody Loves Raymond / Frasier / Everybody Loves Raymond … in that order, 7:30 – 9:30pm.

ELEVEN recently dumped Hogan’s Heroes from the same timeslot.

TV Tonight readers had previously bemoaned both Hogan’s Heroes and Get Smart as a primetime Saturday offering, suggesting ELEVEN offer more contemporary fare for such a premium slot.

Adjustments for a new channel are not especially surprising, as networks gain some understanding of a new audience.

  1. I watched the episodes of 90210 they showed on 10 only to have it taken off just when it was getting more interesting so I thought great now we can see the whole series, so I have now watched the first three episodes again. Now that they have taken it off again I think I will just give up and not even bother if they put it on in another time slot, that has just spoilt it for me. Why can’t they put 90210 on at 9.30 after So You Think You Can Dance (which I am loving again by the way). Have we not had enough of Sex & The City and its endless repeats!

  2. This was the same show that was cancelled in favour for More Good News Week back in 2008 by the way but the latter did better for some reason over 90210.

  3. Surely they could replace one of the many repeats of old shows during the afternoons with 90210. Ten had One Tree Hill on Saturday afternoons and I don’t think 90210 has any higher a rating than that does. Not to mention (if I’m not mistaken) Eleven doesn’t have the same ratings restrictions as Ten. Although I could see some “Family Groups” getting upset with some of the Season 3 storylines.

  4. I don’t have a clue to why they would put 90210 on a Friday Night anyway. The Majority of your audience would not be home to watch it due to work or outings with family and friends I am not a teenager but how can 10 compete against late night shopping and bars/clubs I don’t know.

  5. 90210 has definitely not been axed. They’re in the middle of season three in America (just returned this week after the Christmas hiatus.) With some really strong storylines, there’s plenty of life in it!

  6. Oh what a travesty. I wondered when they said they were goingto show 90210 from the start if it would surpass what they showed on ten. well they didn’t, only 3 eps in, i think they shoed 5 on ten. They should have started from where they left off. Seriously of all the teen shows, i think 90210 is the most watchable. So it’s a crying shame. Elevin need to vary their weekend schedule, so hopefully they will find a new slot for it soon.

  7. @ Emjay

You probably need to rescan your channels to get Eleven on Ch 11 or try Ch 12. Because they switched them around. If rescanning doesn’t work you might need to delete it and scan it. If that doesn’t work factory reset it and rescan all the channels again. Most of those options work but I’m no expert.

  8. 90210oh my god it’s so bad nobody will wach it. 😛 Will they banish it to midnight or midday or never bother to screen it again? I think they should screen it even if it’s in an odd slot.

  9. I’m not interested in watching 90210 but I think it ridiculous they’d give it up because they had major issues with the broadcast in Sydney and Melbourne. So that’s why it barely rated i.e. it was unwatchable if I’ve heard correctly. Why not see if the ratings go up on the episodes they manage to not mess up. Also maybe they should of repeated the faulty episode.

I’ll admit I fear digital interference during primetime as they don’t repeat things giving people a chance to see it possibly when it’s watchable. I’ve seen it being unwatchable this week luckily early in the morning or previously in the afternoon when they had the promos. Stargate Universe briefly had slight interference for the first episode but it was viewable. Ten/Eleven/One has the worst commercial digital signal it’s why I often had to watch analogue over the years i.e. 6. Rather impossible for the digital channels. By the way Ch 31 is the worst or really 44 because some days it’s black and the analogue works just fine though not perfectly. It has sound and picture (not great). I’ll admit I love the digital when it works as it does look better but there are days it just doesn’t.

  10. I am disgusted at 11. I cannot believe they have yet again pulled it with only 3 episodes having aired. When it was one 10 it was what 6 episodes and now we haven’t even got that far.

I watched all of it online as it aired in the US but I have still watched every week and as others have said, if they gave it a chance it would have only gained viewers. Ten paid good money to get the rights for 90210 and they can’t even stick to airing it.

Another point a lot of people who watched it first time around may not have even bothered to watch these last few episodes thinking they would just pick up where they left off but I guess thats not going to happen.

Cannot believe they are sticking to repeats of everything else on 11 for a millenium ago and yet they wont stick with new content. Well 11 just lost me for everything except Neighbours.

  11. Any chance either Gem or Eleven can move Cheers or Friends to 11pm so that they don’t clash? For those who haven’t watched either of them, watch them both, then I dare you to say “Modern Family and Glee are better Quality comedies than Friends and Cheers” with a polygraph…. no seriously, I dare you.

Back on topic: I think that 90210 has run very bland, they burnt through storylines like crazy, because the writers could never put meat to them, I went through about 12 episode and it already felt like it was in its 6th season and on life support, I can’t imagine what crazy storylines they’re using in it’s 3rd? 4th? season? Hell, I’m surprised nearly the entire original cast is still there. I do wish they did show Friday Night Lights though, now That show was a great show, especially season 1.

  12. Where do you have to live to see all these shows on 11? I live in Melbourne, have tried many times, there is nothing but sports, Basket Ball, Golf, Bike Riding. So what is wrong with it?

  13. I think Ch Eleven needs to rethink its shows to screen on Friday & Saturday nights. I originally saw the Saturday night line-up was very weak of having batched eps of Get Smart & Hogan’s Heroes. & then a really bad comedy movie.

SYTYCD USA demonstrates their contestants go ott with their performances, 90210 v2’s characters & storylines are very plain & predictable – which doesn’t resonates with aussie viewers.

Eleven should be showing fresh new shows @ nights on friday & saturday nights, that hasn’t ever been seen on fta screens. Showing eps of ELR, Frasier & SatC won’t attract a lot viewer ratings, due to those who either couldn’t stand ready poor excuses of irritating comedies that shouldn’t have gone for far too many seasons or also they may already have that show on dvd.

Eleven should get shows from foxtel (from arena or showcase etc) & screen them on either friday or saturday night.

    ch 7’s 7two & 7mate have best tv line-ups of friday & saturday nights, then GEM & GO’s attempts.

  14. That didn’t take long, surely they have an hour a week to put this on?

BTW Wouldn’t TEN have the most local content on it’s digital channels over 7&9 with the range of local shows on ONE and now Neighbours on ELEVEN?

  15. I have two thoughts about the 90210 issue. The ads were atrocious, and made it look a lot more vapid than it really is. It’s also very old now – I’m assuming many people frustrated with Ten’s initial treatment of it just started to get the episodes from America where it has been given a fair chance.

It’s a shame – given the right treatment Aussies who weren’t initially sucked in definitely could have gotten into it. A few seasons in it’s really found its feet, with some well rounded characters, excellent issue driven plot lines, and just the right mix of laughs, melodrama, and seriously heartfelt stuff.

    Shame on you Ten/Eleven/all concerned!
