RPM revs up for comeback

Motorsports magazine show RPM is set to return to television one ONE HD after vanishing from screens in 2008.

Motorsports show RPM is set to return to television after vanishing from screens in 2008.

The TEN magazine show is expected to return in March on ONE HD with Greg Rust (pictured) tipped to assume the hosting role, plus regular guests including Craig Baird and Daryl Beattie.

Sam Heard, Head of Marketing – Sport at Network TEN told Speedcafe.com.au it will incorporate international material, including correspondence from James Allen and Tom Clarkson at Formula One race meetings.

Formula One is our biggest property on One, generating fantastic ratings. Motorsport as a whole is very popular with our audience, and felt the time was right to bring it back,” he said.

“It won’t just be F1 and MotoGP. We’ll be covering whatever is relevant in motorsport, including V8 Supercars. If you watch Sports Tonight and our other show, V8s still get a very good run there.”

ONE HD has the exclusive Free to Air rights to Formula One, MotoGP, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship.

  1. Hi there,

I missed all but the final few minutes of RPM tonight but I did see the bit where you suggested you had jinxed an Aussie motorbike racer after doing/saying something about him recently. This may well have been the case.

Additionally I believe Greg Rust jinxed Mark Webber at the Abu Dhabi GP last year after he spoke to him on the track just prior to the start of the race. It’s academic that Webber had a chance of winning the Championship.
Rust seemed to unsettle Webber for those 30seconds. It told on him.

Please promise all of Australia that you will not repeat this error if Mark has a chance at winning the Championship this year!

    Regards,
    Mickey Joose

  2. Just to also note for those who haven’t seen elsewhere yet, One have confirmed F1 will be in HD this year. 🙂

@Craig, from memory only Bathurst is on the anti-syphoning list.

@Rick2, that phrase doesn’t bother me, and, unlike certain BBC commentators, he doesn’t say “sicth” (sixth), which does bother me.

  3. @Craig: Untrue, the BBC show practice from every race.

There is also a possibility that ONE stream practice sessions online as they have the online rights in Australia to F1.

  4. Great to see RPM returning, I hardly watch V8 Extra on ch7 as it’s on at a bad time in the middle of Saturdays, yes I know I could record it but just can’t be bothered.

ITA ONE/TEN needs the V8, standard coverage on TEN (because of the rules) then extended HD coverage on ONE would be fantastic!

@Gambo – F1 – others can correct me but I don’t think anyone outside of the host country has the rights to the practice sessions. That’s why we’ll see them for Melbourne but no other.

  5. Interesting they state F1 as their biggest ‘property’.
Makes me wonder why they don’t show practice 1 2 & 3 sessions at all.

Could this be a possibility in 2011?

  6. I’ve really missed this show. I’m so pleased it’s back. I haven’t warmed to Craig Baird even though he was a driver and seems to know what he is talking about. Only 55 days until the start of F1 season … can’t wait!!

  7. Any additional motorsport related programs on FTA are always most welcome. Now, if someone could please get Greg Rust to stop continuously saying “as far as (insert words) is concerned..” that would be perfect. Once you notice it, it will drive you insane. Very happy to share the pain.

  8. More good news from ONE. I really, really hope that Messrs Packer and Murdoch can find enough change down the back of their respective couches to allow Ten/One to purchase the broadcast rights to the V8s. Seven’s treatment has been below par and, at times, downright disrespectful.

  9. This is great news. RPM was great back in the day. If it’s anything like the f1 Pre show they produce its going to be Quailty. 10/Onehd could stepping up there Motorsport portfolio as the V8 Supercars broadcast rights are up for renewal with 7 in 2011… Interesting
