Austar fails to reach deal on SPEED

Bad news for motorsports fans with Austar telling subscribers it can't reach a deal with Premier Media Group.

Austar has today advised its subscribers it will not be adding SPEED to its channel packages:

Unfortunately following protracted negotiations, we have been unable to reach an agreement with the Premier Media Group regarding SPEED and as such we have no plans to launch the channel. It’s a decision we haven’t taken lightly. We will consider any new proposal presented by Premier Media Group, and have not ruled the channel out for the future.

We acknowledge your passion for motorsport and if there are any developments in the future, we’ll be sure to let you know.

We hope that you are able to continue to enjoy your AUSTAR and the variety of sports and motor sports available on Fox Sports, ESPN, Fuel and Eurosport.

Motorsports fans have been awaiting a decision on the channel since it joined the Foxtel platform on November 1st. Some have taken to social media to vent their frustration on not having the channel available.

Premier Media was unable to comment.

  1. FJ and Knowfirst are smart. Austar dont care what we think. Ads and repeats drive me mad. I even have to pay them an extra $3 a month because I wont pay by direct debit. Get that, I pay them to for the honour of paying the bill.

  2. Having No Speed and charging fans for sports channel is the biggest mistake and Austar will feel the burn here. What were they thinking???
Im no motersports fan BUT I reconise the fact they do enjoy the sport. We get shafted out of all the new channels Foxtel gets.
Austar fading? they will be snuffed out like a candle at this rate?

  3. As many others I’m sure, Austar has been testing my patients with there lack of new material for a long time. As they are introducing more and more advertisments which I can get for free, it wont be long now.

    The Star is fading.

  4. Bill I was merely stating a point as in they are not giving you Speed but Im not getting what I want either. It wouldnt take much to do either to claim both channels. I have been told by most Speed fans that a horror channel is a waste of money they would refuse to watch it and so on.
My main worry is say if Speed fans do get the channel do you really think they would back me on what I want?
    “of course not”
If they wanted to there are places around the world they could aquire the rights to the Horror channel much like any other channel they put in for. I find it disturbing theres not one on Austar or foxtel more so then the films themselves. If you get Speed and I get Nothing ask yourself this one single question
    “Is that fair or Australian????”
