Live to Dance axed?

There is an online report that Paula Abdul's Live to Dance series will not be renewed by CBS.

There is an online report that Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance series will not be renewed by CBS.

If true it would be bad news for Andrew Gunsberg who is host of the reality series.

Certainly the show has fallen short of expectations in the US, and has been the source of ongoing media speculation despite a relatively strong start.

“Paula kept hoping week after week that her show would pick up new viewers,” a source tells RadarOnline.com. “But each week the ratings trailed off. It ended with only a little more than 4 million viewers watching the final… way too few for CBS to keep Paula’s dream dance show alive.

“Paula loved that show and she hoped CBS would give it at least one more season to win viewers. But they were just not willing to take that risk.”

There is also further speculation about whether she may be invited to join the judging desk on Simon Cowell’s new X Factor show.

Live to Dance, based on the UK series Got To Dance, is airing in Australia on FOX8 which will also produced an Aussie version.

  1. I tried to watch the show but disagreed with So many of the choices the judges made. I also found the judges to be very, very, very boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. There just didn’t seem to be enough “substance” to keep me interested. I’m one of those viewers that just stopped watching although I watched the ending of the final night just to see who actually did win.

  2. I can’t believe there’s any debate over this at all… Ofcourse Live To Dance is going to be cancelled. Besides dropping to 4million viewers, its key demo dropped to 1.0 18-49 for the last few episodes… CBS is one of the biggest networks in the U.S. and non of their other shows on air hit below 2. Because this had the reality contract, it got a lucky break. Sorry Paula 🙁

  3. It was too derivative of too many other things that were too familiar.

It worked in the UK because it beat So You Think You Can Dance to the punch and was on air a year or two earlier. In the states, SYTYCD is a bit of an institution and America’s Got Talent is already quite big there. Plus Paula Abdul is rubbish.

  4. of course it will be axed, its the flop of the season so far, if it was a scripted show it would have been taken off the air immediately after its premiere, but reality shows have contracts that prevent that from happening.

not helped at all by the fact its on CBS which can afford to have high standards the moment because they’ve had a lot of sucess lately.
