is the 7 digital channel called 7Two because thats the average age of its audience?

I’m surprised that ch7 is chasing the oldies so hard.

  2. ozgeek February 16, 2011 at 2:19 pm -

I forgot to record Big Bang Theory and Top Gear again. When will channel 9 realise that they will get more viewers if they allow Foxtel IQ to series link. They are the only channel I’ve found that doesn’t bother – so I miss all their shows.

  3. ducko February 16, 2011 at 2:13 pm -

The Circle no longer within striking distance of the Morning Show. Back to 100k behind again.

yes David she sure is :)

    Callas: Maria Mercedes is fab.

  6. Andrew B February 16, 2011 at 1:02 pm -

Problem is people get over watching the same show all the time – whether new or repeat. Nine with Top Gear, Big Bang, Two and a Half Men, Ten with Your Gen as well – are all suffering due to the fact they were repeated all through summer. Furthermore, these shows are no longer unmissable thanks to the high chance of repeats later.

Therefore they go for new and different offering on Seven – hence the reason MKR is doing so well.

Nine have for a few years now had a great deal of difficulty with Tuesday nights thanks to Rafters and NCIS.

  7. Allie February 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm -

@salf, I agree, Nine is in very big trouble. Their “Home of Laughter” programming strategy has backfired something chronic and they are looking decidedly shaky. The two programs that have lazily kept them afloat for the last couple of years, 2.5 Men and Underbelly have suffered ratings falls this year. Ten has been in trouble for years and their ratings won’t lift until their saviour, MasterChef, starts later this year.

Another terribly boring episode of PTTR last night. Did not deserve 1.8M. It was promoted as a “compelling” episode. Could someone please explain what was so compelling about it? They also telegraphed how Rachel will be written out (in my opinion). I’ll lay odds that Jake will be wrongfully charged with rape and Rachel decides to flee overseas to escape her heartbreak over it. Agree about Carbo’s mum – she absolutely has to go. Terrible character, adds zilch to the show. Retta is neither here nor there to me, she’s easy to ignore.

  8. bec February 16, 2011 at 12:50 pm -

good to see the morning show have high figures again

  9. Craig February 16, 2011 at 12:39 pm -

So Top Gear and Ben aren’t working for Nine when they come 3rd behind TEN on primary channel numbers, ouch!

  10. callas February 16, 2011 at 12:36 pm -

the actress who plays carbo’s mum on rafters is the weakest link in that show with so much over acting put in every scene your in and with a surname like panozzo she isnt even Greek !!… maria mercedes would have been better cast and played with more authenticity.

  11. salf February 16, 2011 at 12:17 pm -

i think 9 are in a bit of trouble this year. ten are doing badly too but atleast they still have masterchef to look forward too, 9 have loaded their first quarter with everything that they have that should rate well, and nothing is performing. their big returning shows & high hopes: 2.5men, customs, top gear, underbelly, big bang, mike&molly, mentalist, farmer, elton; all disapointing, what are they going to air for the rest of the year? although their news is doing decently.

7 on the other hand is definately in the best position, they are doing very well at the moment winning most nights and most of them in all demos, better still for them is that this is a conservative schedule, they have held a lot for later in the year. Australias got Talent, dancing with the stars, worlds strictest, airways, 4 weddings, minute to win it, beauty and the geek, winners&losers, wild boys, conviction kitchen, and the amazing race Australia. as well as some new imports that could have potential.

  12. Adam February 16, 2011 at 12:15 pm -

I’m getting over channel 7’s misleading promos for Packed To The Rafters. Last nights episode was nothing like what was advertised….

  13. DanielW February 16, 2011 at 11:34 am -

Congrats to Neighbours! As for everything else on TEN, move it or loose it! As Homer Simpson said to Mel Gibson, “You had me at Hello”. As I said to TEN, “You had me at Good Bue”!

  14. DansDans February 16, 2011 at 11:23 am -

@JB – if the repeat scores higher it wouldnt be bad for TEN, it would just prove to them that the original screening is on at the wrong time

  15. Geoff February 16, 2011 at 11:11 am -

@ DansDan, I reckon if Eleven stripped The Simpsons Monday-Friday @ 7pm it would be able to retain so many more of the Neighbours viewers (two shows who have traditionally been combined, admittedly in reverse) and then launching into more of it’s “theme nights” at 7:30pm.

Even though you can tell that the 7:30pm timeslot is often left with repeats to entice viewers to the main Channel 10 programs.

In regards to the main Channel 10 programs, people saying that the 7pm project has hit it’s hold pattern of 750,000, it still has terrible lead-in figures and is a show that is affected as much, if not more by the sun still being out at that time. 7pm regularly hit the 1-million mark last winter.

  16. googly eyes February 16, 2011 at 10:52 am -

Wow, Your Gen is slipping quite a bit under the one mil now, with MKR almost doubling its ratings. I didn’t really expect that.

  17. JB February 16, 2011 at 10:24 am -

Shaun Micallef is the funniest man alive. “What year did Bill & Ben the flowerpot men de-but on television” LOL
And last night he said the end game will go until his producers told him we had missed the start of Packed to the Rafters. It annoys me Your Gen makes me miss the start of Rafters, but i cracked up at that.

Think i’m in a bit of Rafters lull. Last night’s rugby story was so predicatble. It was ripped straight out of the headlines and i knew straight away the story that would unfold. And i hate the characters of Carbo’s mum and Retta. They’re both ridiculous and cartoonish. Makes me lose interest.

George Negus repeat could possibly get more viewers than the 6pm show. How bad would that be!

  18. Rob February 16, 2011 at 10:16 am -

The 7pm Project seems to have found its audience with a reliably underwhelming 750k-ish number.

  19. Rutzie February 16, 2011 at 9:49 am -

Diabolical figures for LFPE. Did it use a laugh track last night? Nine look to be in big trouble this year. Where has the Top Gear audience gone.

  20. sammy February 16, 2011 at 9:47 am -

Great to see MKR still up there.
Sunrise and even Bold and Beautiful scored higher than George Negus…LOL. I also see that they are repeating George late at night….LOL….and its almost getting as high a score as 6pm…..LOL x 2.
Can’t see why they might give it 12 months (David’s comment) to “let it grow”.

  21. DansDans February 16, 2011 at 9:44 am -

Eleven gets the highest rating show – so it looks like they need to work on the programs After Neighbours – almost 400,000 for digital channel is fantastic, yet the next program is 150,000…. that kind of massive drop off would not be allowed on a primary network

  22. paul February 16, 2011 at 9:32 am -

Nine must be worried that its Rivers of Gold at 7pm (Two and a half me) is drying up. That’s what you get when you flog something to death

  23. Bruce Banner February 16, 2011 at 9:22 am -

Ouch for Ben Elton… when Neighbours almost outrates you on a digital channel, you know you’re not meant to be on TV.

    Neighbours – yay!

  24. Cameron February 16, 2011 at 9:00 am -

    Bye Bye Ben Elton?
    Appalling ratings.
Last night’s show was better than last week’s, mainly because there was less smut, but it still hasn’t hit its straps.
Doubt it’ll get a chance to do that with ratings like last night.

  25. Peter February 16, 2011 at 8:46 am -

Interesting to see that most of ONE’s prime time line up last night was not sport. I am wondering if the times changing slowly on ONE.

  26. AndrewC February 16, 2011 at 1:36 am -

i dont even watch tv anymore, complete trash, i dont have the digital channels in my room (where i spend most of my time) and since they took the simpsons off, yes im still a fan, and keep doing bizarre things with the times and programs, its really hard to care.

its a little dissapointing to see the big bang theory doing so poorly, it is really a superbly produced, acted and written, original, witty and, my favourite aspect, not too smutty.

same with the mentalist and CSI:Miami, but i guess we australians are sick of crime shows that do not have a powerful relationship centered base, but i still enjoy them.

2.5 men is now the Only show i watch but even that for no reason was moved for some reason yesterday.

I really want some quality comedy, dying for it, but i have serious doubts, basically, since rove, its been a long draught, GNW has given me something, but its not enough. good thing this is the internet age, internet killed the TV exec? OK.

  27. ryan February 15, 2011 at 11:21 pm -

Omg has anyone else noticed how many ads are on fta atm?? there are so many and man its bloody annoying: now would be a good time for ten to promote its 60 sec ad breaks

  28. humus February 15, 2011 at 10:22 pm -

I’m sure neither care what ratings NCIS gets!!!!…………

  29. humus February 15, 2011 at 10:20 pm -

Hey Harry….just to even things up can you please next time say “muhammad those are low figures for NCIS”……………….

  30. Harry February 15, 2011 at 8:49 pm -

Jesus those are low figures for NCIS. Bad move by TEN, stick to Tuesdays. Its one of the only shows that rate well consistently – why would they burn more episodes for.

  31. davis February 15, 2011 at 7:16 pm -

seeing as Glee seems to be a popular topic: I posted here previously that I thought that TEN’s season return Glee promos were rubbish and spread thin. For this week, much better in production. But aired in absolute saturation – both ends of a break in many cases. I think to the extent that it harms TEN’s other programming not just for Monday but for the rest of the week.

GNW numbers aren’t good. Move it back to 8:30. Blow off the 9:30 timeslot – it’s a lost cause. e.g. burn off US Undercover Boss in it now its bubble has burst.

  32. Peter February 15, 2011 at 6:31 pm -

On a positive note. I really enjoyed Glee last night..

  33. A. February 15, 2011 at 5:54 pm -

    @ mjr

Thank you for telling us what Eleven did i.e. messing up their promos and days. I’ll admit it’s not the first time it’s happened on their channel. I ignore it. I’ll admit I thought you had some other information eg. Advanced Guides. I’m glad it was just a mistake. Also thanks for explaining it further. I feel better about it.

    @ David

Did Smallville rate so bad they aren’t releasing the figures to you? Or did you forget about it? Please respond I’d be grateful to know what’s up.

  34. ducko February 15, 2011 at 5:41 pm -

Obviously Underbelly needs a bit of titilation to rate its backside off.

  35. Trev February 15, 2011 at 5:37 pm -

    @ Bim
The channel that’s losing the most viewers is10. Neighbours now has less people tuning in than before, hardly anyone is watching George and Sandra, the 7pm Project is in a state of decay and the gap between 10 and the other two major networks is on the increase. In a months time it will have increased even more.

Despite all the new programs that David Mott was in raptures over, Network 10 still struggles to hang on to 3rd place and at least once a week comes in 4th behind Aunty.

One other thing, why are those viewers who prefer the programs on 7 and 9 guilty of bias, while those whose remotes are riveted to10 twenty four hours of every day not? I’ve often wondered.

  36. Mr. chandler February 15, 2011 at 5:13 pm -

underbelly is past it’s used by date. only 1 series was good

  37. den February 15, 2011 at 4:10 pm -

Oops. I didn’t even know Underbelly was on.

  38. Bim February 15, 2011 at 2:31 pm -

I think the additional Ten newshour strategy should be taken in context with what they have at Eleven.

They should have expected Eleven to drag the Neighbours viewers there, what they’re attempting to do is in fact erode the 7 and 9 viewership for the 6-7pm block.

So while the numbers may be very low now, if it reduces the 7 and 9 audience numbers, it’s moderately successful.

After a month, I think it may be worth it to compare year on year figures for the 6-7pm block. I would expect the main chanels to have lost numbers, but it would be interesting to see which chanel loses most.

  39. Ranco February 15, 2011 at 1:43 pm -

Wow, you can’t blame the channels for killing shows…

I mean the highest show didn’t even reach 1.2 mil

  40. RedBullBoy February 15, 2011 at 1:25 pm -

Underbelly dying a slow death? Those numbers keep getting lower and lower…

  41. catherine February 15, 2011 at 1:08 pm -

2.5 men new episodes are well down compared to last year. Beaten by MKR & Glee. Maybe people just dont want to watch Charlie Sheen anymore. Even the repeats are down.

Underbelly isnt that high eaither. I started watching it because Undercover Boss was taken off and there wasnt much else to watch but lost interest quickly. It wasnt as good as the others.

MKR is still doing consistently well. Its nice to watch the second half of the couples battle it out this week.

  42. Nick February 15, 2011 at 1:06 pm -

‘Good News Week only getting 430k”

Yes, well, as someone on the Q&A Twitter feed last night opined, “Why would they put Good News Week, Brothers and Sisters, and #Q&A on at the same time?!”

  43. David Knox February 15, 2011 at 1:01 pm -

Rob: In my opinion, this will take a year to bed in. Ask Jamie and Lachlan if they have the patience.

  44. Castle February 15, 2011 at 12:59 pm -

Congratulations to Ten on killing NCIS. Morons.

  45. Rob February 15, 2011 at 12:52 pm -

Ten needed to improve their last year’s low-rating 6-7pm lineup but the replacements’ figures are now diabolically low. How can they justify giving the shows time to grow when the figures are so so low? Neither program seems deliberately targeted towards Ten’s desired demos, and I don’t think either offers an attractive point of difference to their direct competitors. Maybe Ten should go low-brow, offer 30 mins of sport or entertainment news at 6pm and then push the flagship Negus to 6.30, where he can offer something different to TT and ACA.

David, you’re the expert – what’s your opinion on what will and should happen?

  46. mark zanker February 15, 2011 at 12:50 pm -

Numbers down in a lot of shows. I have noticed that last couple of years. It is the start of school and the multichannels i guess would take away a slice from the main channels. I watched shows on seven mate, eleven and one hd. The only time i switched to the main channels was during the ads. The most annoying ads being for home and away and my kitchen rules as i don’t care about either.

As for the greatest athlete it is an ad for rexona and they would want to maximise their exposure on a main channel.

  47. RichoTB February 15, 2011 at 12:36 pm -

Good News Week only getting 430k, that has to be a concern for Ten

  48. Brenton February 15, 2011 at 12:05 pm -

Home And Away rated pretty good last night. All H&A viewers will know the so called river boys won’t be bad for long like every other “bad boy” that’s comes to Summer Bay. I don’t really think it’s important what 7 call them but I do think they r from Mangrove River, (hence the name) the town near Summer Bay and Yabbie Creek. Lol

  49. David Knox February 15, 2011 at 12:00 pm -

Maybe people are finally getting sick of the constant repeats!!

  54. JB February 15, 2011 at 10:38 am -

Bad move by Ten to put NCIS on Monday. Used to be #1 import, so why mess around with it. Did anyone even know it was on last night?

And you know if Ten had shown the last 2 eps of Glee before summer including the Xmas ep in December like they should have, then they could have shown the Superbowl-Thriller episode last week the day of the Superbowl a few hours after the US. And they then could have shown the Valentines episode last night on Valentines Day. Would have made more sense. Ten make some stupid decisions.

  55. Allie February 15, 2011 at 10:20 am -

Perhaps Nine’s “Home of Laughter” promotions should be changed to Nine’s “Burial Chamber of Laughter”, as their supposedly fabulous comedies that were going to set the world ablaze are obvious ratings turkeys. None of their new comedies have yet to resonate with the viewing public, and it appears that the 2.5 Men well has well and truly run dry. I enjoyed MKR last night. The couple cooking were really nice people but boy, did they have serious time management issues. Yikes! Very entertaining, though.

  56. Rutzie February 15, 2011 at 9:49 am -

Nine’s home of laughter seems to be tanking.

  57. Michael February 15, 2011 at 9:35 am -

NCIS didn’t do too well on Monday, when will networks get the hint to leave shows alone! People get annoyed when you mess around with their shows… Glee and Modern Family were being flogged in the ratings towards the end of last year when they kept changing their timeslots; thankfully they’re slowing recovering this year. Networks seem to only consider short-term ratings rather than thinking long-term. Some may criticise Foxtel but at least they’re consistent with programming… just sayin’.

  58. Jerome February 15, 2011 at 9:32 am -

Looks like bones Is our new #1 import drama, killing off every other contender.

I wonder if home&away will beat underbelly any time soon? Huge bragging rights if they do.

  59. ducko February 15, 2011 at 9:25 am -

Not surprised that Underbelly dropped this week. I watched last week & was disappointed so decided to give the last two a miss.

  60. RichoTB February 15, 2011 at 4:32 am -

Back when it first premiered on Sundays three years ago, The Mentalist was getting 1.5 million.

I enjoyed Underbelly last night! Nothing else was really worth bothering with IMO…

10 needs to move NCIS:LA back after NCIS. I understand their reasoning in teaming it with H5O, but it’s really damaging what is a fabulous season.

Bad move by Nine to move The Mentalist to Sundays. Networks don’t learn….

    @ mjr or anyone

What Supernatural; The Office swap? When? I’ve not seen it in the TV Guides. So where is the info from? Is it next week? Facts please if anyone knows anything.

Lastly no info about the Smallville ratings? I’d love to see what they are. Thank you.

Good one TEN handling nine all your 5.00pm news viewers and now have a
    lowest 6.00pm news numbers
Also whats the go with the HD stations swaping and changing programs after 1 week
Golden girls off again in afternoons after 1 week on air and now supernatual has replaced by the office even though 11 still advertising both
To hard to get in to any viewing habits this year

Sunday night is totally boring after 8.30, so i normally switch off.

If Ch 9 were smart they would have put the Underbelly movies on Sunday night, there is nothing else to watch and i think they would rate much better than they do Monday night.

I miss Janella cooking on Biggest Loser friday nights. Actually not really interested in Biggest Loser much this season, I watch Sunday and thats it.

    Tommo

The funniest thing is Channel 7 did advertise “Greatest Athlete” as starting yesterday afternoon during Bones, 4 hours after it aired!!!

  67. DansDans February 14, 2011 at 3:32 pm -

@Geoff – the problem is people wont watch it on ONE, for some reason there is a some wierd umbillcal cord that attaches people to Ch 7, so ONE could try as they might, but it just wouldnt rate.

People need to get over this bias, and quickly

  68. Kirill February 14, 2011 at 2:42 pm -

What has happened to “6PM With George Negus” ? It is nowhere on the list this week…

  69. A. February 14, 2011 at 2:34 pm -

David how did Smallville episode 1 & 2 do? Thanks in advance. :)

  70. Link February 14, 2011 at 2:05 pm -

I think that an overcrowding of mystery/crime shows in the 8.30 timeslot could have been the problem . Having new episodes of Bones, Poirot, The Mentalist and Hawaii Five-O all up against each other would certainly have resulted in an equal spread of the ratings

  71. Geoff February 14, 2011 at 1:16 pm -

ONE HD should look into getting programming like Rexona’s Australia’s Greatest Athlete or the like for future seasons. Possibly also doing female versions as well? If Seven can get 358,000 @ 4:30pm on a Sunday afternoon with next to no promotion it could easily be the top rating show on ONE if worked correctly.

  72. Michael February 14, 2011 at 1:02 pm -

Ten really need to bring back their 5pm news on the weekends, why they canned it in the first place is beyond me. I’m glad The Biggest Loser is doing well and winning its timeslot, even with a poor lead-in.

@ Tommo, Australia’s Greatest Athlete will be replayed Fridays at 7:30pm on 7mate.

  73. francis February 14, 2011 at 12:39 pm -

i am so suprised that the biggest loser is doing so well. i love the show and i watch it religiously every sunday, wed, thurs and friday and i am so glad that it is doing so well in the ratings too as this is a good indication that it will come back next year too.

i also love modern family too and was glad to see it do so well. the show lost some momentum and was dropping viewers but to see it get around 1 mill is fantastic. i am so glad my shows are doing well.

but way to go biggest loser. after 6 seasons it is still doing so well. i guess the key is keep changing it up something australian idol should have done with the judges a long time ago.

“Out of the Ashes” maybe ABC24 will re-air it in HD at some point? Loving “America:The Story of the US” on SBS (great in HD) love learning something new about the US, just a shame we’ve got the cut down version and not the fun 12 part series shown on The History Channel, maybe the local HC will show it in full at some point?

Also watched the A380 story on 60 Minutes, haven’t watched the show in years. Apart from that Sundays for me is filled with shows I either don’t like or have seen already.

  75. Tommo February 14, 2011 at 11:28 am -

Gee, thanks for advertising Rexona Australia’s greatest athlete, Seven!!
I love that show but only knew it was returning at some stage in February (as was advertised during the Australian open).
Dunno whether I’ll bother now in protest to your poor advertising techniques.

  76. Nik C February 14, 2011 at 11:13 am -

    @ Lisa, a great idea.
Lets show repeats on and off and then change times and hope viewers care!
I managed to make the switch, but many have not!
    What was wrong with Mondays?
I now have nothing to watch @ 8:30 Mon as DH and now Mentalist have moved. As for CSI Miami I remember when it was on 8;30 Wed in 2005! how many timeslots since then…..

  77. Mike February 14, 2011 at 10:31 am -

Is it me or are numbers massively down? David what’s going on? All multi-channel effect?

  78. Lisa February 14, 2011 at 10:15 am -

Wow channel 9 will be upset the mentalist down in 16th wouldn’t have anything to do with its run of on off on off over the past few months maybe channel 9 will get the message stop messing with schedules

How good was America:The Story of the US on SBS last night? Absolutely rivetting, I loved it. Beautifully shot, great narrative flow, it was just terrific. I’m going to absolutely love this series. Dateline was also excellent, particularly the story on the Egyptian protests. Probably the best coverage of the protests I’ve seen in the last week, very raw and confronting. I also enjoyed Sunday Night, which is consistently good. The story on the woman who put two serial rapists behind bars was amazing.

Well done to ABC for Out of the Ashes last night. It was a brilliantly filmed documentary. Pity we couldn’t see it in HD.
