ABC News has appointed former SBS executive Denise Eriksen as its new Head of Current Affairs.

Eriksen has worked in a number of senior roles for both SBS and ABC, including Head of Factual at ABC and Head of Production and Development at SBS, Executive Producer in ABC News and more recently leading the internal review of 7:30 following the exit of Kerry O’Brien. She is also overseeing AFTRS review of industry training needs.

Director of News, Kate Torney, says: “Denise’s long experience in News, Current Affairs and Factual Television Production and Management is what’s needed in this role, which replaces the former Head of National Programs position.”

“I would also like to thank Ben Hawke who has been acting Head National Programs since July 2010. Ben will take up his new role as Head New Content. In this position Ben will be developing program ideas for the News Division and continuing to produce News Specials like Lake Eyre and Grantham.”

Denise Eriksen added, “It’s a privilege to be asked to join Kate’s team and to work with the outstanding teams in Radio and Television Current Affairs. I’m delighted to be returning to News at a time when technology and audience expectations bring exciting new challenges and opportunities for building on the fine pedigree of ABC Current Affairs.”

Both Eriksen and Hawke begin their new roles on Monday, March 28.

  1. I’m writing about the over done interviews of Charlie Sheen and his bizarre behavior these days. It may be good for your ratings but it not doing anyone a favor. Mr. Sheen is an addict, out of control, and been given the biggest stage in the world to rant and rave. The networks need to say no to interviews till he gets clean and sober and shuts his mouth.

You are enabling his addiction and it is just bad publicity for those serious about living a clean and sober life.
