Anna Coren on A Current Affair

How odd it was to see former Today Tonight host Anna Coren being interviewed by Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair.

Coverage of the Japanese earthquake / tsunami brought former Today Tonight host Anna Coren back to our television screens.

But who expected her to be interviewed by Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair?

Coren, now based in Hong Kong for CNN, was first seen on Friday night during a news special that Nine rushed to air at 7pm.

But last night during a Sunday night edition of A Current Affair, Coren was interviewed by her former rival Tracy Grimshaw. Coren was on the ground in Sendai, giving what turned out to be the best story of the weekend special.

Coren was also prominent to Aussie viewers last August during the Philippines hostage crisis.

Kudos to Grimshaw, who referred to her twice as a CNN journo, without even a wry nod to her former competition.

  1. here’s a tip from me who has worked in CAFF for 20 years. The on air talent dont give a stuff about what brand of network they front for, as long as they can front. Hence why Coren took a 50% pay cut to work for el-cheapo CNN ( and they are !) to get her dial in front of about, oh, 2000 times the eyeballs that she was doing in p**s-ant TV Australia. Tracey is above any of the perceived snipping that occurs, which is, a product of the gutter press and scum bag types like confidential tv. The CAFF chics especially are all friends in private because they are a rare breed and know they need to stick together to beat the sexist pigs that are network heads. The chinese TV market is a daily audience of 250M…yes thats 10 times the population if Australia just watching TV..so why wouldn’t she take that opportunity to guess what, step up to the US anchor market. Same reason why Oriel Morrison and Karen Tso Both left channel benign to go to CNBC. It’s all about opportunity and in australia, this amounts to a hill of beans and a snake without a pit to hiss in.

  2. There’s nothing to stop Tracey from joining CNN, BBC, Sky or Al Jazeera and working overseas, but it depends how much she likes (which must be a lot) her current salary, as she’d have to be willing to take a major pay cut.

  3. ive got to agree with a few here who say Tracey is wasted on ACA – shocking show full of rot…but i like Tracey and she should be on a proper news story show where she could excel ……even reading the news …and not 60 min as that is the same as ACA …rot … Liz is wasted there….

  4. I think if your a journalist and love that work then Anna has the better deal, I’m sure CNN (or the local officials) aren’t putting her in harms way, plus she gets to travel the world and see things most of use will never do, unless it’s on the TV.

  5. @Scott now that”s just crazy. Anna getting sent off to the front line of a radiation infected place, damaging her chromosomes in the process and readying herself to become a mutant while Tracy is getting pampered and dolled up in her luxurious studio probably on 1 million a year and hosting one of the country’s top rated current affairs programs.

And you think Anna has the better deal??? Now that’s delusional.

  6. I would have thought Coren was gleefully jumping up and down inside. She’s out there being a real journo while Tracy is still presenting stories on Diet Pills, Obsessive Collectors and the latest in supermarket price wars.

  7. Well Anna did start at channel nine in 1999 and stayed a few years as a reporter and then presenter.I think like everyone else she would like to forget her career at channel seven hosting TT.She has moved on and proven she is a serious news reporter again. She looked the part a serious reporter on the ground in Japan,no hair or make up done.OMG Naomi Robson would never have did this, been seen without her make up on or hair done!.I agree channel nine had the Sunday ACA to beat TT with the Hey Dad story, typical TV Wars between both networks.

  8. Oh to know what was going through Tracy’s mind LOL

Anna Coren working for arguably the biggest news organization and in Hong Kong with Tracy is stuck behind the ACA desk most of the time and it’s lame stories.

  9. Coren was at her best when she stated that the tsunami wave was 10 metres high which she explained was well over her head as she gestured with her hand. Thanks for explaining that Anna.
