FOX Classics’ Bill Collins cites her as a considerable talent on screen and vividly recalls being struck by her charm and physical beauty when they met on a couple of occasions. “It was a most amazing experience looking at her face, she was so beautiful,” he says.

No argument there, Mr. Movies.

The only son of wealthy widow Violet Venable dies while on vacation with his cousin Catherine. What the girl saw was so horrible that she went insane; now Mrs Venable wants Catherine lobotomised to cover up the truth. The film was released in 1959 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, and Montgomery Clift.

1.55pm: The Taming of the Shrew
This 1967 feature film is based on William Shakespeare’s play of the same name about a courtship between two strong-willed people. The film was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as Shakespeare’s Kate and Petruchio.

  1. Thanks David for the heads up on the special screenings. I still can’t believe Elizabeth Taylor is no longer with us. But I guess as with all legends and icons, their work is immortal and their presence lives on. Such a huge star.
