Spoiler: So what does My Kitchen Rules have up its sleeve soon?

Spoiler: What does My Kitchen Rules have up its sleeve soon?

A trip to the Northern Territory on The Ghan.

At least two episodes will air later this month which sees the teams on the train from Adelaide through Central Australia.

A sudden death cook-off will take place in “the world’s tiniest kitchen” aboard the moving train.

When teams arrive in Darwin “the competition is turned on its head by an unexpected turn of events.”

Last October producer Rikkie Proost told NT News, “We can’t divulge too many details about our visit just yet but it will be a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the Northern Territory.

“Our judges, Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, along with the crew and contestants, were looking forward to this trip and meeting some of the locals. My Kitchen Rules is proudly Australian and we are committed to showcasing this country’s diversity.

“The Northern Territory has a lot to offer and we look forward to it playing a unique role in our show.

“All will be revealed when series two begins airing on Channel 7 in the near future.”

  1. Once more, for those who just don’t get it, MasterChef does not own the Australian patent on kitchen cook-off reality shows. MasterChef Australia is an adapted copy of the UK original, so by that definition, it is a rip-off itself. My Restaurant Rules, which MKR is based on, was broadcast well before 10 even acquired the rights to MasterChef, so it can be argued that MC copied My Restaurant Rules. On and on it can go, this copied that, etc. There is only one way to decide the winner of a cooking competition, and that is by round robin cook offs against each other, there is no other way to do it, so given that these shows are very limited in how they can decide on a winner, there are inevitably going to be elements of copycatting in their formats. I watch umpteen cooking reality shows on Lifestyle Food and they all have a similar format – team challenges, individual challenges, cooking off under great time pressures, judges tasting their food, etc.

  2. Great move! Can’t wait for these episodes, as I have always wanted to do the trip on the Ghan. How about next year they feature teams from our two territories, the ACT and NT? Come on, producers, include our territories and make it a true Aussie competition. Lots of good local produce in the ACT and NT that can be showcased in the instant restaurant part of the show.

  3. So I guess the show will be changing its name to “My kitchen, or somebody elses kitchen/train rules. Or MKOSEKTR for short.

Seriously I though this show was about people cooking in there own homes, not trying to copy Masterchef.
