‘Sick’ wins One80Project

Christian and Conor Van Vuuren have won MTV's search for a three minute pilot to become a one hour drama.

Sydney audiences braved the wet weather at Prince Alfred Park last night to attend the Optus One80Project contest, which awarded short filmmakers Christian and brother Conor Van Vuuren the winners with their entry entitled ‘Sick.’

The competition sees a three minute pilot entry chosen to be developed into a one hour TV drama to be shown on MTV Australia and Optus ZOO.

‘Sick’ was chosen the winner by judges David Wenham, Kat Stewart and members of Blue Tongue Films, Joel and Nash Edgerton, David Michôd, Spencer Susser, Luke Doolan, Kieran Darcy-Smith and Tony Lynch from a shortlisted Top 10.

“15.52” from Queensland residents Daniel Flood, Peter Johnston, Camden Casey & James Chalice, won the Peoples’ Choice Award.

Both entries were also awarded a prize package plus a share in $20,000 cash.

The Best Student Entry was awarded to Cameron Suardana, Shane Kang & Milan Gandhi for their 180 second pilot “Neon”. They receive $5000 cash plus prizes.

Prince Alfred Park was transformed into an open-air amphitheatre for the evening with live DJ sets by Softwar, Bag Raiders, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt of Sweden’s Miike Snow.

  1. Watched all three of these, Neon was the best I reckon. 15.52 was a bit like a bad version of the Walking Dead/Dead Set/other recent zombie series, and Sick seems like it’d be better suited for short skits on youtube.
