Bogies vs Bogies

In the lead up to the Logies, Sydney newspapers are again running rival "Worst TV" awards both called the Bogies.

In the lead up to Sunday’s Logies, Sydney newspapers are again running rival “Worst TV” awards both called the Bogies.

Columnist David Dale has been running his Bogie Awards at the Sydney Morning Herald website since 2007.

Last year the Daily Telegraph entered the fray with its own Bogie Awards, which prompted legal letters from the SMH. They even have a bruised and battered Logie image.

But it seems TV fans can vote for both.

At the Sydney Morning Herald Bogies, the voting topics include:

-Most tasteless disaster-porn coverage of floods, waves, earthquakes and schoolchildren
-Most unnecessary personal opinions during a supposed news show
-Most unnecessarily repeated
-Most misunderestimated
-Best use of body parts to exploit base instincts
-Most embarrassing program (The Naomi Robson Cup)

Updated: Voting closes at 5pm today, with winners announced on Saturday April 30th.

Meanwhile at the Daily Telegraph Bogies, categories include: worst ad on TV; show you’d most like to axe; worst Aussie actor and actress; most hyped personality; and most unconvincing newsreader.

Winners will be revealed on Friday, April 29th.

Both awards have already limited the options in each category. Neither appears to have much to prevent you from voting more than once.

But it’s a bit of fun.

  1. Long Live the SMH Bogies!

boganpride: with the SMH Bogies you were more than welcome to make your own nominations for the categories, or suggest your own category.

  2. Maybe their should be a category for the most borring lame and uninspiring channel on both pay tv and fta. Because what is currently being broadcast on some channels is boring.

  3. Thanks for reporting on the Tele’s plagiarism. Last year their lawyer promised our lawyer that they wouldn’t do it again. Things have come to a sorry state when you can’t trust a lawyer!
I have extended voting for the genuine original Bogies until 5pm tonight.

  4. I choose to take part in the telegraphs. It was easier, a better more comprehensive selection. The heralds just seem to be about voting for bogan type shows. I don’t even think one abc show made their list.

  5. Dieter was actually very good in Underbelly. There are many, many other actors I can think of to vote for, but they are not listed.
Like, the entire cast of Sinners and Losers. Oh that show does my head in. Anyone got a spare axe?

  6. I too had trouble with the Daily Terror awards – the menus didn’t work on my laptop, but did on my normal desktop. No idea why that was the case.

The SMH one though is at least tracked – you have to enter an email address and have a SMH account to enter it (as is their normal blogging rule) – the Daily Terror one there is no registration at all.

  7. At the Telegraph Bogies, they’ve listed Gary Sweet as a contender for worst actor for Underbelly. Was he even in one?! And Dieter Brummer’s also up for worst actor. That’s ridiculous!

I quit voting. I can’t even click next on the stupid pop up menu…
