Logie nod for Chrissie Swan brings out the knives

There was quite a reaction to Chrissie Swan's Gold Logie nod amongst the industry gathered at last week's nominee announcement.

More details have emerged on industry reaction to Chrissie Swan’s nomination for a Gold Logie.

Last week Eddie McGuire criticised the Logies voting when he questioned her nomination over top rating stars such as Matt Preston. Logies publisher Peter Holder hit back at McGuire and issued a statement on voting procedures.

Today The Australian recounts some reactions at the Green Room last Sunday when nominees were announced.

Adam Hills was asked not to mention Swan on air when interviewed during A Current Affair (Sunday). Nine preferred to focus on its own Gold nominee, Karl Stefanovic, who was hosting ACA.

ACA reporter Brady Halls did acknowledge all 6 nominees in an interview with TV Week editor Emma Nolan, including lots of gushing comments live to Stefanovic.

A producer organising coverage for Kerri-Anne was also told Swan was not to be included -no surprise given The Circle is competition.

By Monday morning Kennerley did acknowledge Swan’s win on her programme.

But raining on Swan’s parade may yet backfire. Anybody who has ever voted for Big Brother knows if you unfairly put someone in the spotlight, they become the underdog and the audience votes twice as much to get them over the line.

Swan remains humble over her nomination, telling TV Week, “It’s a bit of fun and I think if everyone knew what the outcome was going to be every year, how boring would that be?”

One industry source told TV Tonight the nomination for Swan was terrific but it was disappointing some comments had taken the shine off her moment.

  1. I don’t have an issue with Eddie McGuire, but detest Chrissie Swan. I rarely ever watched Big Brother but never watched even two seconds after the comments that she made about Queenslanders when she was on there. She is a disgrace.

  2. Pull your big head in Eddie – I don’t know anyone who’d want to vote for you – unless it was an ego removal operation or maybe personality transplant!
You go Chrissie, we love you, your infectious laugh, your amazing personality, your sense of humoue an the fact that you’re ‘still one of us.’
    Eddie?…….. Eddie who? 😉

  3. I suppose you can look at the word ‘Personality’ like ‘Persona’. I think it’s fine that actors can win Gold. You’d be applauding them on playing their character so well. To say that Asher Keddie shouldn’t win because she’s playing Nina Proudman and not being herself, is ridiculous! Her Gold nomination is a testament to what she has achieved on Offspring last year. Nina might’nt be likeable, but Asher is likeable for playing Nina.

  4. The people have spoken. Chrissie was nominated fair and square. If Eddie doesn’t agree, well that’s too damn bad. Maybe he shouldn’t have voted for Plucka Duck.

  5. @daveinprogress, I’ve always maintained that if the gold is won by an actor, they get it for the character they play. You’ll notice that every actress who’s won the gold has played a character with stacks of integrity. This is why Lisa won for Blue Heelers, but never Sea Patrol and why McClements won for Water Rats but never for her character in Rush. Same principle applies to Sonia Todd and Libby Tanner and It’s why Keddie can’t win.
