Returning: Collectors

Do you have to have a loud shirt in order to be a boffin?

If you’re wondering where it’s been, ABC1’s Collectors returns for its seventh season soon, having been rescheduled due Good Friday and the Royal Wedding falling on a Friday.

And by the look of those shirts, Adrian and Gordon haven’t been collecting any new fashion labels. Are they looking to give Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki or Peter Blasina a run for their money?

Do you have to have a loud shirt in order to be a boffin? Hmmmmm…..

Sonia Williams has collected Monopoly for 10 years and now has 150 sets, all of them different. She’s got New York and Las Vegas versions, and themed games based on the Wizard of Oz, lord of the Rings and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Matthew Reilly, well-known author of thrillers, is a die-hard collector of sci-fi and action movie memorabilia. His prized bits include a 2.1 metre Hans Solo figure (Star Wars) and a rare DeLorean sports sedan from Back to the Future, which he regularly drives.

Ken Wilson is a relaxed, traditional country collector from Victoria. He’s a dairy farmer with 1000 plus objects, all related to milk, all pre 1970 and none of it plastic.

Claudia visits the Queensland Museum for a taste of “Art meets Science”. Known as the “Butterfly Man of Kuranda”, entomologist Frederick Parkhurst Dodd, collected vast numbers of insects in one of the richest insect precincts on the planet, North Queensland. His beautiful creations of insect art are astounding.

It returns 8pm Friday 6th May on ABC1.

  1. I have become a regular viewer of this great and enjoyable show from reading about it through this website and I am looking forward to the new series. Agree with @Casting couch in regards to the elephant in the room hopefully the feeling will now be gone.

  2. Still a very interesting and entertaining show (despite the “elephant in the room” feeling throughout that last of the edited episodes).

I didn’t like Claudia when she first appeared on the show, but she is a good presenter and I enjoy watching her now.
