Swingtown on ABC2

ABC2 is about to replay the US period drama about open marriages, "key parties" and swingers in the 1970s.

ABC2 is about to replay Swingtown, the US period drama about open marriages, “key parties” and other swingers in the 1970s.

The series, which only lasted for 13 episodes, has previously aired in a late night slot on TEN.

The sexually provocative world of swinger couples in suburban 70s America is explored in ABC2’s new series, Swingtown.

Swingtown peeks into the shag carpeted suburban homes of couples revelling in the sexual and social revolution that introduced open marriages, women’s liberation and challenged conventional wisdom.

During this heady era of provocative change, Susan (Molly Parker, Deadwood) and Bruce Miller (Jack Davenport, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) move their family into an affluent Chicago suburb in search of a different sense of community, including barbecues and get togethers with their new neighbours, as well as a change of pace for their teenage daughter and pre teen son.

Enter Tom (Grant Show, Melrose Place) and Trina Decker (Lana Parrilla, 24), a striking, outgoing couple who redefine the term ‘neighborhood watch’.

After a mind blowing evening with them, Susan and Bruce realise that couples in this town share much more than recipes, local gossip and a view of Lake Michigan, and are worlds apart from their former conservative neighbours, Janet (Miriam Shor, Big Day) and Roger (Josh Hopkins, Brothers & Sisters) Thompson.

Susan’s loyal friend Janet is appalled by what she witnesses in this new neighbourhood, while Roger, though dutiful to his wife, is more intrigued than she knows.

Initially stunned themselves, the Millers are tempted by the possibility.

It begins 8:30pm Monday April 25 on ABC2.

  2. love ,love, love this show!!!cannot get enough of it!!! want more!! Am absolutley devestated to learn that this is it, there only ever was one season. So ironic, that they finally get tv viewing so right only to have it canned by the so called ‘do gooders’ of society. Seriously the best series i’ve seen in a long long time!!! Actors are
phenomenal, sets, props and costumes amazing and storyline to match.
    Love it!!!

  3. Also watched this in a dark corner of Ten’s late night viewing last year. Looking forward to catching the whole 13 episodes.

The “moral highground” defeated this show in the US, and apparently advertisers left the timeslot in droves. Because if people were meant to be seen naked they would have been born without clothes on.

  4. Will give it a go. I caught a couple of episodes when it was on TEN.

Any news on when ABC2 will show Friday Night Lights? I’m really looking forward to seeing it!

  5. This show is probably the greatest failed US series of the last 10 years or so.

I bought the series DVD set from America a couple years ago, based just on the premise and the fact it starred several of my fave US TV actors (Grant Show, Josh Hopkins and Miriam Shor).

Upon receipt, I popped it into my dvd player and couldn’t stop watching it. I ended up watching all 13 episodes over 1 weekend.

In the process I discovered another of my new face actors, Michael Rady, he is smoking hot in this series. And Lana Parrilla is an absolute star in this series.

CBS treated this show very poorly in America. Had they promoted it properly and aired it during the season proper, I am sure this would have been a big hit.

I urge everyone to check it out while you can and invest in the DVD set which I believe is also available here in Australia now.

  6. Perfect. It’ll fit right in taking Rake’s current spot. I saw a couple of eps before and it looked really good. Will be able to watch it all the way thru now that it’s on at a decent time.

  7. I recorded this show off Ten last year and only got around to watching it last month. It was really fun to watch, so I’m not sure why Ten didn’t try it over a Summer non-ratings period. That said, I’m not sure it fits ABC2’s image being not from the UK or not acclaimed US drama.
