@ A. Really Dude?? Every single week! Smallville rates like crap and will never return to a pre-10:30pm timeslot because no one cares anymore. Can you stop asking.

  3. A. April 11, 2011 at 12:52 am -

Would you hate me if I ask if you have the figures for Smallville Season 9 Episode 1 please? Also did ST:TNG really get 167,000 (I got the figure from Mediaspy ) ? I waited until the end of the week to be less controversial (hopefully ) also I was hoping they’d show up. But I guess that was wishful thinking. Again thank you for all the figures you provide. I’ll admit I’m very interested in the first and last episode figures of any Season in particular eg. Season 9 Ep 1 in Week 15 April 3rd 2011. Also if they ever change the day and/or time I’d also be very curious. But that’s theoretical at the moment. Really thank you.

You’re not wrong Craig. The fact is however both 10 and 7 have been punished for years in regard to live AFL in NSW and QLD. It is costing them millions. All you seem to hear from disgruntled Aussie Rules fans is the lack of live footy in Adelaide and Perth, yet this weekend was typical for Sydney and Brisbane with 5 matches televised, 3 of them live with the two home teams participating.
As Harry has pointed out the Swans Sydney figure is atrocious and when the figures for today’s live match featuring the Brisbane Lions are published tomorrow, they won’t be much better in Bris.

Why they persist with all the AFL to an almost non existant audience, I’ll never know, when they should be seeing to it that those states where Aussie Rules is almost a religion, get a fair go.

No One ratings for the AFL?

  8. Craig April 10, 2011 at 1:32 pm -

Looks like the AFL’s going from 2 teams that get appalling TV ratings to 3 with the Suns and soon to be 4 with the Giants. Channel 10 and 7 are going to get punished for showing live AFL in to Sydney and Brisbane.

  9. Harry April 10, 2011 at 11:48 am -

Saturday Night AFL Ten 500,000 syd – 55,000 bris -29,000

could somebody stick a fork to vicball in NSW/QLD…its done

  10. Joe April 9, 2011 at 11:57 pm -

@ Secret Squirrel The ratings for the football on Friday Night into Adelaide were actually higher then what BH@G rated last week.
    Week 15 Football – Adelaide 153k
    Week 14 BH@G – Adelaide 145k

You were correct in saying BH@G ratings in week 14 were higher than week 15’s football into Perth though

  11. Jason April 9, 2011 at 11:14 pm -

massive win to ch 7 on a friday night and everyone gets to see the footy live! surely this is a win win situation… why can’t ch 7 have BH & G as its one and only flagship multi channel program on 7Two? I would think it fits the old demographic of 7Two

  12. Secret Squïrrel April 9, 2011 at 8:41 pm -

@Jarred – I wouldn’t call a 10% increase “massive”. Ratings for some programs go up and down by more than that week to week even when the schedule is exactly the same. Adelaide and Perth AFL figures were up a bit but are still less than what BH&G got at the same time last week. I think these results are inconclusive at best.

I don’t get the ‘mega wall’ either. It’s the same with the V8 broadcast. What is the point of it? They occasionally show a few seconds of a long shot of a bunch of TVs with different feeds and then back to the regular vision switching. It might be useful if you’re in the studio and want to keep track of things in various locations but it’s a complete w@nk for viewers at home.

  13. Andrew April 9, 2011 at 4:47 pm -

The AFL people finally got their live game with 2 of the biggest teams and a huge build up. Possibly the highest profile game of the year, and the numbers were up and good, but they still do not compare to better homes and gardens, which would have won the night. If Seven made this move and it wasn’t a big game like Collingwood and Carlton and the numbers drop, which I suspect would happen , it would just benefit 9, who haven’t been in the hunt on Fridays for a long time.

  14. Joe April 9, 2011 at 1:03 pm -

@ JB I don’t think Nine will ever show the rugby live into Adelaide simply because Adelaide doesn’t have a rugby team resulting in very little to no interest at all with the majority of people living in Adelaide.

@ Mr. Chandler Yes I agree. Especially with their angle from the top of the stadium looking down. This looks terrible as the broadcast is not in HD so it just looks blurry and you can’t see what player has the football. If seven are going to use these angles then simulcast the game in HD on 7mate

  15. Jarred April 9, 2011 at 11:13 am -

Take a good look at thoses ratings Ch7 because there are massive increases all round for the AFL in AFL cities because you showed it at 7.30pm in Melb (live), Adel (30 min delay copmpared to 90 min usually) and Perth (2 hr delay compared with 3 hrs normally)). Hopefully Ch7 make this a permanent move.

  16. Mr. chandler April 9, 2011 at 11:09 am -

i don’t know what to say about the afl numbers last night. probably the same as normal. 88k to game is better but. but i will say 7s coverage of the game went new level of rubbish. it was fair dinkum like watching midgett wrestling for nearly all of the game and also when will they give up the mega wall. last night showed it at one one stage with media room as one of it’s angle and there was no one in there. god they a bunch of amateurs at 7

  17. JB April 9, 2011 at 10:56 am -

Well look at that. Footy at 7.30 in Adelaide last night got more than Better Homes & Gardens gets each week. Also higher in Melbourne. And beat the NRL coverage. So come on Seven, show it live in Adelaide each week.
And while i’m at it, Nine hurry up and catch up with the program. Put NRL live in Adelaide on your other digital channels.

  18. Jerome April 9, 2011 at 10:55 am -

7 would have wanted much more for the live footy, that’s only just above what the delayed and lower profile match got last week. Considering the hundreds of thousands of dollars 7 loses when they show a game live I can’t see it happening many more times.

  19. DAN April 8, 2011 at 8:41 pm -

great to see TBL do so well last night and i agree they all looked good espcially Lara

  20. Feisty B April 8, 2011 at 6:58 pm -

I love all the people trying to fire up support for Ch 9’s painfully obvious failure.
‘Million dollar drop’ wasn’t bad/ very entertaining.

Australians want food and aussie comedrama (and possibly the oz amazing race out of intrigue when it arrives)

Everything else is a waste of money : talent shows (x factor/dancing with the stars/oz got talent), game shows (money down the shute), delayed US series (everything american on Oz tv right now).

Cmon guys use your heads. It’s generations later. Do your research!!

If we have the world at our fingertips then we have tv as well.

If you can fast track the Oscars just 6 hours later. You can fast track Every tv show. Watch ratings go up.

It won’t steer us away from our food obsession coz we’re all fat but just TRY IT.
You’ve tried everything else and whats more it won’t cost the multi million dollar budgets you’ve been p#ssing away.

  21. Joe April 8, 2011 at 6:07 pm -

Probably the best Footy Show (AFL) I have seen in years. Extremely enjoyable and got the ratings it deserved.

  22. catherine April 8, 2011 at 5:42 pm -

The makeovers on thebiggest loser was really good. The contestants looke really good.

Another great episode of the good wife. Kalinda is on of the best tv characters going round.

The final scenes of DH were full on last night and very intense.

  23. JB April 8, 2011 at 2:25 pm -

Another enjoyable show from Heston last night. Amazed at the dessert he prepared that had the appearance of bangers and mash, The 6 invited guests thought it tasted divine. Thanks SBS for this great show.

  24. ryan April 8, 2011 at 1:12 pm -

Was checking through ratings and come up with some interesting figures.
Masterchef started last yr with 1.7m, sytycd aus hung around 800,000 plus on its wed and thur nights towards end of season and had 1.1m for the finale, Neighbours was averaging 600,000 on Ten and the biggest loser got 1.56m for it’s finale in 2010.

  25. Adam April 8, 2011 at 11:45 am -

SC10 does realise that during last nights Good Wife they were showing this weeks ep, went to an ad break and came back showing last weeks episode and then half way through it switched back this week’s?!?!

  26. Kieran April 8, 2011 at 11:21 am -

Good numbers for the Biggest Loser, and fantastic to see the footy show in the top 10 – what a great 500th episode it was for the AFL footy show!

  27. Allie April 8, 2011 at 11:13 am -

Loved Heston’s Kitchen Nightmares last night, very entertaining and interesting. I would love to sample that amazing bento box he put together, how stunning was that? Fair dinkum, he is a genius. He comes across well onscreen, very likeable guy and not up himself at all.

  28. Kenny April 8, 2011 at 10:57 am -

What was with the stuff up with presentation of “The Good Wife” last night (at least on SCTEN NSW)? Classification, ten minutes of commercials, pick up “program in progress”, segments chopped early, then new titles and what seemed to be another episode started at 8:50 – but it all seemed to run an hour? It was confusing and a mess. What happened?

  29. MuchoTB April 8, 2011 at 10:46 am -

I watched Million Dollar Drop last night, it was actually pretty entertaining! Those two dudes from the Melbourne Lair / ‘success coaches’ did an awesome job. PUAs unite.

Of course, they went home with $0 but they played a pretty good game til the Ian Thorpe question. Also good to see Heston’s Mission Impossible lose a few hundred k from HIMYM, there’s an oversaturation of cooking shows on right now. Biggest Loser was pretty inspirational as well

  30. Adam April 8, 2011 at 10:42 am -

Saw Million Dollar Drop for the first time last night, and it’s actually not bad !

  31. Allie April 7, 2011 at 7:15 pm -

@EyeSpy – LMAO!!!! Perfect description of that cavalcade of cheese, The Farmer Wants a Wife.

  32. Eye Spy April 7, 2011 at 4:01 pm -

I watched the first couple of series of ” Farmer wants a trouble and strife” but it was far too mushy and so obviously staged (confirmed by some of the farmers recently) that I stopped. Still, curiosity got the better of me and I tuned into the reunion last night (9 will be happy with the figure and another series is on its way).
The reunion was quite good and there have been a few who have tied the knot… others still waiting for Miss Wright… I have to stop, a tear is welling in my eye…..

  33. David Knox April 7, 2011 at 3:33 pm -

Yes there were classification issues there. No advice on its return yet.

  34. Carta April 7, 2011 at 3:23 pm -

Very annoying that Channel 7 chose to run last night’s two episodes of Criminal Minds in the wrong order – it made Prentiss’s storyline hard to follow and led to confusion between the two episodes. I’m assuming the graphic violence in the second episode warranted the later timeslot, but still, it made for confusing viewing. David, any idea when the show will be back? It’s been bumped Detroit 1-8-7 next week.

  35. David @ Green Point April 7, 2011 at 2:03 pm -

Good to see that last night’s George @ 6.30 had nearly Half the eyeballs ACA enjoyed.

Keep it up, George – we’re enjoying the alternative to the endless pulp served up by both ACA and TT.

  36. CharlesD April 7, 2011 at 12:56 pm -

Last Friday night GO! and GEM combined probably averaged about 50-70,000 viewers in Melbourne alone between 7:30 and 9:30 (is this correct David?). It is at the Communication Minister’s discretion whether or not Ch9 can broadcast the NRL on their digital channels in the southern states. He has already allowed Prime to broadcast AFL live on 7mate in regional NSW so I don’t see it being a big problem.

David Gallop should publicly insist that Channel 9 actually do this. The best solution would be to put the NSW game on GO! and the QLD game on GEM.

  37. Michael April 7, 2011 at 11:58 am -

Viewers in QLD and NSW might whinge about how AFL is treated in non-AFL states but compared to how Nine schedule NRL in non-NRL states, it’s pretty good. The last two Saturday night AFL games in QLD have been live, this Saturday’s is either on a 30 minute or one hour delay. From the Nine schedules I’ve seen for VIC / SA / WA, they get the Friday night NRL games after midnight. At least if an AFL match is on at 10:30pm you may have a chance of watching it but to schedule an NRL game in the early hours of the next morning is ridiculous. Might as well not air it. I don’t understand the anti-siphoning list but can’t Nine put NRL on GO! / GEM in those states. Surely that can take precedence over what ever show Nine is replaying in those states.

Negus encores have to go, while they remain, their 6:30pm figure isn’t going to improve. Neighbours also looking very strong on Eleven.

  38. Kenny April 7, 2011 at 10:33 am -

@JShaw – Totally agree. This newfangled nonsense of “encores” is madness. I sometimes don’t bother watching George at 6:30 knowing I can catch him at 10:30 or so. If he were only on at 6:30 then I would be sure to watch then.
His two audience figures are not added together so what’s the point?

  39. callas April 7, 2011 at 10:27 am -

k.d lang’s interview and singing live on adam hills last night was brilliant !

  43. Craig April 6, 2011 at 5:41 pm -

WDYTYA? – I agree the US version with it’s constant updates and recaps either side of the ad breaks OMG and it’s only about 42 minutes long, less with the recaps. Where as the UK is a full 60 minutes and no ads, even the SBS AU ones are 50 minutes long with only 3 ad break and no recaps. Guess it says a lot about the NBC audience.

  44. J Shaw April 6, 2011 at 5:20 pm -

Why does TEN keep repeating 6:30pm with George Negus late night ?? If i want to watch the show i’ll watch it at 6:30pm. TEN can put another program on late maybe a classic sitcom. It just a waste of time after 10:30pm

  45. Allie April 6, 2011 at 4:24 pm -

@David Knox. Me too. I am waiting for the rip-offs, scams, con artists, backstabbing, family rows, falling outs etc to start. There was a hint of it last night when the girls ran into their high school nemesis at the party, so I assume the storyline will start to develop a more dramatic edge soon.

@Trix, yep, it is maddening. I also loathe with the heat of a thousand blazing suns the constant “Someone will be going through to elimination today. Someone will be going home and we don’t want it to be us.” repeated ad nauseam by all the damn teams on MKR almost every time they do a cut away. Aaaarrrrgghh!! They do it as well on MasterChef. Again,I assume it must be part of the patented cooking competition show production template that they all seem to use.

  46. David Knox April 6, 2011 at 4:02 pm -

What I am waiting to see in Winners and Losers is how money changes people. They may have each won $2m but I am waiting for jealousy, ego and personality changes between friends and family. It’s there a little with Virginia gay’s character but I am hoping it becomes more stark. A lotto win is a great divider and story tool depending on how it is employed.

  47. Ann April 6, 2011 at 3:57 pm -

Looks like 7 have the year wrapped up

  48. JB April 6, 2011 at 3:57 pm -

@Geoff, i live in SA and i can tell you i care about NRL. And i’ve posted several times on here complaining about the games scheduled at 1am in the morning, and yes they’ve been printed. My interest in AFL is waning, and my interest in NRL is growing to the point that i prefer watching NRL now. But Nine are bloody stupid and refuse to show it live on their other channels. So I watch by other means rather than staying up until 1am.

Seven hurry up and put Rafters back on. I don’t like W&L. Won’t watch anymore. It’s just a massive girlyfest. And i hate the Jenny character. What kind of friend is too cheap to go in a lotto ticket with friends, and then guilts them into giving her an equal share when they win. Like i said it would appeal to chicks, but Rafters had something for everyone. And i like Parenthood for that reason too, and both were a perfect fit for each other. Rafters back please.

  49. MuchoTB April 6, 2011 at 3:06 pm -

@Secret Squirrel, you just won the award for the most pointless comment of all time. Good job son. Try again in five years’ time.

  50. ducko April 6, 2011 at 1:59 pm -

I don’t like Winners & Losers at all so I’m not surprised that its ratings are falling. However, it is still a ratings success & will probably settle at around 1.2 million which is still a strong result.

  51. koverstreet April 6, 2011 at 1:56 pm -

Good to see some decent numbers for NCIS LA now that it follows the original.

  52. Tony Bee April 6, 2011 at 1:10 pm -

Hey, Trix. I agree with you! And US shows are even worse. Their version of “Who do you think you are?” is unwatchable because about 25% of the show consists of recapping the same scenes you just watched before the ads. Americans must have real goldfish memories!

  53. steve April 6, 2011 at 1:06 pm -

Looks like the new timeslot for NCIS LA is paying off. Took TEN long enough

Not schoked about WInners and Losers number. I can see this becoming the new Ugly Betty.

  54. Trix April 6, 2011 at 12:55 pm -

@Allie & @Garry + 1 … I can’t abide the incessant recapping of information we’ve just watched three minutes before an ad break – we’re not goldfish, people! It’s lazy program making but I live in hope that networks will move towards making more informative, original programming. Okay, I’m having an optimistic day.
