So funny to read all the comments.

I love NRL and I think Rugby League is the best sport in the world but who cares if we beat AFL or don’t beat them in ratings? I don’t get that mindset with spectators. What’s the matter with enjoying the sport for what it is and not how it does against it’s competitors? Let the networks and the NRL office take care of that side of business. Just become a member for your club, go to the games or enjoy it on tv and be thankful that we get to watch the games at all.

I’m more worried about my team becoming Premiers, forget what the ratings show. And if we do get good ratings, there’s no need to put down another code just to prove a point. Everyone doesn’t have to like the same goddamn game. Yeah I think AFL sucks but I watch the grand final because it’s a grandfinal not because I think it’s a better bloody sport.

Bottom line, I think AFL sucks and is the pits and NRL comp is the best in the world but I have no problem hearing AFL fans say NRL sucks and AFL is the best comp in the world. It’s just the way it is. You either deal with it or just shut the hell up. Both competitions will suck against a giant like soccer anyway.

Stop with all the comparisons in ratings guys. The average NRL or AFL fan wouldn’t give a shit about it anyway, they just enjoy the game for what it is.

NRL footy show sucks now but that is not a reflection of how many fans NRL has, it’s a reflection on how incredibly boring the show has gotten this year. .

Btw, I really enjoyed MKR finale and CK finale. It was really well done. The right people won on the day. Bring on next year.

Can you tell me the fiqures for the European football championships on SBS last week during the morning, thanks

    H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E! Hypocrite.

See Secret Squirrel. I can spell. Would you prefer us to go back to arguing about My Kitchen Rules Vs Master Chef?

  4. Secret Squïrrel April 18, 2011 at 10:22 am -

@Geoff – and now you’re complaining about my two posts. Can you spell “hypocrite”?

  5. Geoff April 17, 2011 at 11:14 pm -

I’m sick of reading people complaining about other people’s posts. Secret Squirrel seems to be complaining about the NRL/AFL war as much as people are posting about the two figures.

  6. ryan April 17, 2011 at 9:38 pm -

Um hello Ten you already showed this season of america’s next top model like 2 yrs ago!!

  7. Karebear April 17, 2011 at 9:20 pm -

@Maev I’m with you. Football seems to be all anyone wants to talk about here and I’m over it!!!

  8. Secret Squïrrel April 17, 2011 at 8:47 pm -

@Maev – I hear you, it’s very childish/trollish. Unfortunately it happens every season, usually started by a few NRL fans who feel they have a point to prove, and then joined by AFL fans commenting on the errors and distortions made by the NRL fans who selectively quoted numbers favourable to their code.

Last year it was worse because of the Football (round ball) World Cup. We were treated to a couple of NRL stooges repeatedly telling anyone who’d listen that “nobody watches soccer” but obviously concerned that any attention was being paid to it (and conveniently ignoring the large immigrant populations who do watch it).

The noise will die down and then pick up again when the NRL State of Origin is on.

  9. ryan April 17, 2011 at 6:09 pm -

masterchef confirmed for 6 nights a week!!

  10. Jason April 17, 2011 at 5:35 pm -

um the AFL bashers just have to look at the percentages…

Ch 7 wins every single Friday night.
Ch 10 is getting a much larger percentage Sat nights whereas in non football season they were losing to the ABC.
and if the NRL is so great why do they play different games in different states on Friday nights? Your comparing 2 NRL games shown live in different states against 1 AFL game shown on up to a 3 hr delay here in Perth! If the AFL did what the NRL did and played a game in Perth, a game in SA and a game in Melbs then ch7 would win by a bigger margin – but it is winning with only 1 game on delay anyway.

The AFL should have brought in a new WA team because we have all the jobs and all the money! Also bring in a team in Tassie – they deserve it.

  11. ryan April 17, 2011 at 4:18 pm -

oh by the way very interesting to see one hd has 17,000 more people watching footy last night in syd and brissy than on 10

  12. ryan April 17, 2011 at 4:15 pm -

I don’t know why before the game doesn’t do a live show in either syd or brissy to try and bring in more people, sorta like what the morning shows do from time to time. They could atleast try a special on a wknd where its a syd game after in syd:) lol

  13. Maev April 17, 2011 at 3:44 pm -

I am soooo over almost every post beginning with either AFL or NRL….
I just skip over them to find the few comments about the many other shows on TV….
Almost at the point where I will not even bother to read comments here….

  14. shaun April 17, 2011 at 3:05 pm -

i know it might be a bit late david but could you tell me if the cape and the event on 7mate on friday night the ratings for them? thanks if you can.

  15. John April 17, 2011 at 1:51 pm -

There is seriously something wrong with these NRL fans on this website. It seems like their whole lives evolve around friday night footy ratings. Instead of sitting and watching the game all the time on TV why dont you people actually go to the game because the biggest embarrisment in the NRL is there pathetic crowds.

  16. Guy April 17, 2011 at 12:52 pm -

    @Joe

That may be the case with the AFL but in Melbourne last week it only rose by 6,500 viewers shown an hour earlier. It did however jump significantly in the other 2 AFL regions.

Great week and start to the year for Seven. Nine are goners, TEN will rise due to Masterchef and well who knows what might happen. The programmers at Nine are worse than ever scheduling Sea Patrol on Tuesday is stupid. Oh well thats Nine for you.

  17. Frankie April 17, 2011 at 12:30 pm -

I should add what is concerning however that the game involving Sydney in prime time only rated 2,000 more than the afternoon game. 68k v 66k in Sydney.

  18. Frankie April 17, 2011 at 12:26 pm -

Ten and One had some awful audio problems in the last quarter of last night’s AFL match. Anyone else have the same problem? I switched off and put the radio on.

@Iron Chef, clearly you have some issues with AFL but those figures are averaged over 3 hours, you also conviently forget to include the ratings on One HD. Even I for a fan of Aussie Rules dip in and out of matches. I might even catch a bit of the Storm game this arvo. Shock! Horror!

  19. CharlesJ April 17, 2011 at 12:21 pm -

The NRL is live into Melbourne at 3pm today on Channel 9.

    Penrith Panthers vs Melbourne Storm.

It’s up against Gold Coast v Melbourne in the AFL at the same time.

  20. Iron Chef April 17, 2011 at 11:59 am -

    Saturday Night AFL Ten 539,000 syd – 59,000 bris-27,000

Another Deplorable showing by the victorian game north of the border.

Barely in front of repeat Iron Chef eps. Oh dear!

  21. Secret Squïrrel April 17, 2011 at 11:43 am -

@Ryan – as has been said many times on this blog 12 is not a real channel, it is just a pointer (LCN – logical channel number) and (you guessed it) it points to 1 (OneHD). I don’t actually know but I’m sure that anyone watching 12 on an OzTAM box will have that recorded as OneHD, same as watching 70 or 71 is recorded as 7 (because they are).

  22. Craig April 17, 2011 at 11:37 am -

Prime time rating for the Sydney Swans are just embarrassing for the AFL in Sydney.

  23. ryan April 17, 2011 at 3:29 am -

I’m still wondering whether channel 12 gets added to one hd’s figures if people watch 12 instead of one hd??? cause if they don’t then ten should get rid of it quick smart.

  24. Mr. chandler April 17, 2011 at 2:29 am -

i am pretty sure the afl cares more about crows figures than tv ratings. 78k today at the mcg for a day game i brilliant i doubt the nrl would get that to a game at anz outside of the finals. i will say it again with these afl ratings in brisbane and sydney. if 7 put the game on at 8:30. the numbers would be much better than what they are and when they have put finals games on at that time. the numbers improve out of sight.

  25. Joe April 17, 2011 at 12:46 am -

Craig seriously get a life. Everyone is sick of your desperate attempt to tell everyone that nrl gets better ratings than the AFL. The fact is, is that there will never be an even Friday Night comparrison unless both sport are shown Live into their states. A 1 hour delay into Melbourne, 1.5 hour delay into Adelaide and 3 hour delay into Perth can’t be compared with a Live rugby game into both Sydney and Melbourne. Last week when the AFL was shown Live into Melbourne, 30 minute delay into Adelaide and even a 2 hour delay into Perth, the AFL defeated the NRL’s friday night ratings by over 100,000. Go figure

  26. Darryn April 16, 2011 at 10:07 pm -

    @Andrew

have you got a clue?. There was 30 of us last week and over 50 of us tonight in our local club watching the AFL (Carlton v Collingwood and Carlton v Essendon). Want to take a guess where that live feed was coming from? And trust me darling, I’m no bogan.

  27. Darryn April 16, 2011 at 9:55 pm -

Was looking for the great George Negus and his astonishing ratings for the one trick pony, Still looking.

  28. Secret Squïrrel April 16, 2011 at 8:28 pm -

All you NRL and AFL kiddies can stop this pointless measuring of your knobs as very few of us care, and your respective games were both soundly beaten by a show full of old people on the ABC.

  29. Andrew April 16, 2011 at 6:01 pm -

AFL has peaked it went live last week with the biggest game of the season basically, and the figures were not that flash for the so called live game. This weekend again it was back to very average figures , have a look at the the better homes and gardens numbers, excellent again. AFL fans don’t have a leg to stand on. Also I don’t care about AFL or NRL to me both are for bogans, but get an understanding this is a TV ratings forum not a “My crowds are bigger then yours” forum. Crowds are irrelevant here the AFL would be better with 10000 at the game and 80000 extra watching on TV in this arena

  30. Damien April 16, 2011 at 5:49 pm -

The AFL needs to wake up regarding the FNF ratings. The 1 hour delay to Melbourne, the 1.5 hour delay to Adelaide and the ridiculous 3 hour delay to Perth are not good for the game. I also don’t get why the AFL persist with having so many FNF fixtures that involve only Melbourne teams. Their provincial attitude is not doing the game any good.

  31. kevin martin April 16, 2011 at 5:43 pm -

Noticed that “New Tricks” beat NRL friday by almost 300,000 viewers.
Being a Bulldogs v. Parra game, I’m sure the NRL and 9 would be a bit dissapointed..

  32. arj April 16, 2011 at 5:04 pm -

Thats the Spirit!! NRL smashed AFL again on TV! Now the only problem is The NRL Footy Show on Thursday needs to get Much Better!!! and then that’s all Good!!!

    Go NRL!!!!!!

  33. catherine April 16, 2011 at 4:45 pm -

Craig the thing is if you dont follow collingwood who is the most heated team or dont follow richmond then you probably arent interested in the game. Why would you watch it when you know its going to be a 1 sided game.

Also the supporters actually go to the games and follow there team hence why there are always crowds of 40,000 plus. AFL fans go and support there team not support them from home.

  34. Jarred April 16, 2011 at 3:39 pm -

    @ Craig,
Last week the Friday Night AFL did get 488k in Melbourne but it also got 153k in Adelaide and 129k in Perth, that’s an overall difference of 152k between last week and this week and last week it wasn’t even live into Adelaide or Perth, only Melbourne.
You seem to continually make comparisons when there is no valid comparison to make, unless both codes are live into all interested states. Give up with your dud comparisons, you aren’t doing the NRL’s lack of credibility any favours.

  35. koverstreet April 16, 2011 at 3:02 pm -

I’m an AFL fan but those ratings are not too flash. I seem to remember it doing much better when Seven first got them? It does well in Mel as you’d expect but elsewhere even in the other AFL states it flops.

  36. ryan April 16, 2011 at 2:13 pm -

I wish ten would move blue bloods to 9.30 wed! or even 10.30 wed, cause fridays is a waste of such a great program and it’s never gonna rate on fridays

  37. Michael April 16, 2011 at 1:30 pm -

In regards to the The 7pm Project, I was watching live in Brisbane and noticed the same thing. I too thought all the studio interviews were live… especially considering they have their “Ten Live” watermark in the top-right corner of the screen.

  38. Craig April 16, 2011 at 12:30 pm -

    10 Nine’s Live Friday 760,000 511,000 *** 249,000 *** ***
    13 Seven’s AFL: Rnd 4: 634,000 8,000 436,000 9,000 101,000 81,000

The NRL wallops the AFL again.
And don’t go on about AFL not being live in to Melbourne they only got 488,000 last week for one of the biggest games of the year live.

NRL must get the Billion in the next TV deal

  39. Matt April 16, 2011 at 12:23 pm -

Wow, Friday NRL ratings thrash the AFL.

Plus goes to show NRL fans aren’t as bogam as AFL fans hence higher ratings for AFL footy show. Please… Sam Newman.

  40. David Knox April 16, 2011 at 11:42 am -

Nothing to do with Adelaide delays. I have checked the vision and they made a boo boo. Looks like Charlie’s live intro came undone with a pre-recorded interview. Will try to add a clip later.

  41. Jarred April 16, 2011 at 10:45 am -

    @ JB,
Remember in Adelaide it wasn’t live, it was half hour delay, so there might have been an audio problem with Ch 10 Adelaide. Also, I watched that as well and the woman seemed to be reacting to all the background laughing and jokes coming from the studio so it couldn’t have been pre-recorded.

  42. JB April 16, 2011 at 10:14 am -

I think 7PM Project got caught out last night. Charlie went to introduce someone for an interview, and we overheard a woman start answering a question that hadn’t been asked yet. And then he looked miffed and asked the question, and then her exact same response was heard. So their interviews aren’t live are they?? I assumed it was all live, but this seemed pre-recorded and then acted like it was live.

  43. David Knox April 15, 2011 at 11:21 pm -

    The weekend is Apr 29 / Apr 30 / May 1.

  44. ryan April 15, 2011 at 11:14 pm -

On your poll david i thought masterchef started in may and not april?

  45. Big Man On Campus69 April 15, 2011 at 4:48 pm -

    Joe has a point.

    Description Stn Network Sydney Brisbane

The Footy Show Nine 98,000 56,000
    Desperate Housewives Seven 201,000 113,000

    Twice the ratings.

  46. michael*oz April 15, 2011 at 4:03 pm -

    TDJ……..breathe, dear…….

  47. Craig April 15, 2011 at 3:15 pm -

@ Sam, Wow! You must be one of the 33,000 people who watch the Syd Swans on on prime time TV.

  48. TDJ April 15, 2011 at 3:04 pm -

The general incompetence of these networks appears to be permeating the news broadcasts as well. Of course Seven and Nine are the most incompetently run networks of the lot, not helped by their constant infantile attempts to out do each other. Guess what you morons, viewers do not give a toss who got it first. A case in point the other day when the Adelaide was being sunk. Nine news decided to keep a window constantly on the screen with a picture of the ship. A totally moronic and pointless exercise which only caused annoyance and a channel change to Seven. Was that their aim? Then of course Seven was not quite as annoying as Nine, but actually missed the sinking because they were too focused on their own greed with an “infomercial” . What a pair of utter imbeciles these networks are. Then this morning with this Kelly Lane crap that I certainly could not give a toss about. We all knew where this was going. Seven just dumped one of their stories half way through for the “breaking news”. Wow, it is so important isn’t it. Like anyone needed to know this news at that exact second. They could have just finished their other story. It would not have made a blind bit of difference. Just wake up you bloody idiots, viewers are fed up with this pointless stupidity. That is why they are switching you off in droves. Only you are too stupid to understand it.

  49. koverstreet April 15, 2011 at 2:35 pm -

I’m not an NRL fan but I did enjoy watching the footy show back when it had Matty,The Chief and Sterlo. Back then it was kind of entertaining now it’s rubbish.

  50. Joe April 15, 2011 at 2:15 pm -

Pathetic NRL show ratings. Compare the ratings in Sydney and Brisbane to that of Desperate Houswives which is shown at the same time on 7. I wonder how long it is until 9 axes the nrl show?

  51. Tonu beck April 15, 2011 at 1:38 pm -

The nrl footy show has lost its two key componets, it’s humour and the relationship of the panel. Seriously someone at ch 9 needs to look at the melbourne footy shows strengths and use it to improve the nrl show.
