Paula Abdul joins Simon Cowell for X Factor

They're ba-a-a-a-ck. One of TV's most memorable judging partnerships reunites for America's version of The X Factor.

It’s official.

Paula Abdul will reunite with Simon Cowell as a judge for his new US series of The X Factor.

The former American Idol judge has signed for The X Factor, alongside L.A. Reid and Cheryl Cole.

It follows her short-lived US dance reality series Live to Dance.

Abdul was on hand to judge the show’s first round of auditions, which took place in Los Angeles at USC’s Galen Center on Sunday. Her last-minute deal was completed ahead of the first auditions.

“I really miss him,” said Abdul about the reunion. “It’s awkward and wonderful at the same time.”

“She’s Paula Abdul. Nothing’s ever easy, but I’m used to it,” said Cowell.

“I could just sense that the public would’ve been disappointed without Paula,” he added. “You see how we are; we get on really well.”

Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and U.K. television personality Steve Jones will host the series which premieres in September.

No Australian broadcaster has yet been announced.

  1. I am underwhelmed by the panel. After all the hype of revealing it and some of the huge names that said they were interested Xfactor has the least famous judges compared to Idol and The Voice.

Live to Dance has really hurt Paulas profile IMO. Her return to tv via X doesn’t seem that exciting because of it.

  2. Thanks David,

And yeah I think it would be great on Eleven. I’m surprised that they don’t show American Idol as I think they have the rights but sell it onto FOX8.

I guess ill need to watch it the same way I watch The X Factor UK.

  3. I think this show will do big things in the US. I doubt Seven will pick it up. It would take attention away from our version. I think it would do well on Eleven. They need a ‘big’ entertainment format.

  4. I hope we get to see it here. I would actually watch this version, the chemistry between these 2 judges is evident.

I just hope that Seven don’t get it, they’ll probably put it on 7mate. I keep forgetting that channel even exists!

  5. Surely seven will have first dubs on this, I don’t see it airing at the same time as the states though as our x-factor will be into live shows by then
