Renewed: Nikita, One Tree Hill. Axed: Hellcats

US network The CW has been busy with its future titles, renewing both Nikita and One Tree Hill but calling it quits on Hellcats.

US network The CW has been busy with its future titles, renewing both Nikita and One Tree Hill but calling it quits on Hellcats.

While Nikita has not been quite the performer the network had hoped it would be, it remains a solid performer for younger viewers net. This season it has averaged about 2.5 million viewers but star Maggie Q also offers significant international appeal. It airs in Australia on GO!

One Tree Hill made the move to The CW from the old WB and has taken more than a few extreme steps, including leaps forward in time and replacing a slew of major cast members, to continue its run into what will now be its ninth season on the air.

The CW shifted Hellcats to Tuesdays but the audience failed to follow, struggling to draw over a million viewers in several recent airings, making its cancellation inevitable. It too has aired on GO!

  1. @Nate, ah I see! I liked it though, that’s what I meant. 🙂

@SwaySlayer – I’m with you, it wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t awful either. I liked Alice in particular.. She had potential.

  2. Judging by the comments I appear to be the only one a wee bit sad that Hellcats got the axe… It was never going to be anything other than a show about cheerleaders but I thought certain members of the cast gave it something a bit unique. RIP Hellcats.

  3. @ sarah h.

Towards the end Hellcats was doing much worse numbers than Life Unexpected was when CW canned it, so that is why it didn’t survive.

OTH has only been picked up for a 13 episode season, so I’m assuming it’ll be the final season…well you’d hope so.

  4. Last time i checked One Tree Hill aired on Network Ten in the afternoons on weekends, with Ten unlikely to have any AFL from next year i would not be surprised if more OTH was to be aired. Hellcats being axed was innevitable their is only so much you can do with a show about cheerleaders.

  5. Geez, OTH is turning into CW’s version of 7th Heaven; the show just won’t die. Only watch Supernatural on CW, which was picked up weeks ago, so not much disappointment or excitement from this news.

  6. hellcats was good for a while, but they pinned too much on the main “star” and she wasn’t very good.

i’m surprised they would cancel a show that had potential (Hellcats) over something that should have been canned years ago. (OTH – are they all still in high school??)
