Right royal (non) ratings

For a week when supposedly nobody is watching the telly it was a pretty big week. But everybody loves a TV wedding.

Everybody loves a TV wedding. The Royal Wedding dominated Week 18 with big numbers watching on Friday night.

Technically the best average audience for Channel Seven may have been 1.74m for the earlier portion of the evening, but tallying numbers for the wedding itself on Seven + 7TWO it went over 2.1m.

Amassing all viewers across all metro channels it was over 5 million viewers -and that’s without Regional or Pay TV viewers. And yet they tell us numbers are supposedly down during the Easter non-ratings week…

Seven again won the week with a clear margin.

Best for Nine was its new factual AFP: Australian Federal Police while TEN’s Biggest Loser is on track for a good finish.

From today we are back into official ratings and the beginning of a new MasterChef season. It’s a whole new ballgame now.

  1. @ lik. Good point i watched Friday Night Football on 7Sport and i was amazed how wet and cold it was i thought that the people of sydney were brave to turn up. The weather was exactly the reason why the royal wedding rated well.

  2. Good think for TEN that last Friday was a non-ratings week then.

In the US it’s different, while like here ratings are kept all year they have ‘Sweeps’ periods through out the year, February, May and September are the most important and most of the top shows on Network TV air in those months.

I didn’t watch much of the wedding but caught the highlights on the news.

  3. Our Aus ratings system baffles me. We are bombarded with shows at the height of summer, then when Easter comes around and daylight savings has ended, there is very little on.

I loved the wedding, along with thousands of others. A wedding is meant to be a religous sacrament.

  4. My local McDonalds was packed out with people stuffing burgers and cones in their faces and gawping at the royal elite. If that was a trend, then the ratings were probably much, much higher.

Proud to say I only saw 10 seconds of the Royal Contract whilst getting a burger. Zero interest. But then, I hate weddings. Especially religious ones.
