  1. And I don’t know why people call American Idol ‘Country Bumpkin Idol’ after Lauren/Scotty were the final two… it reflects the nation in which the show is broadcast. X Factor will be no different or at least be no less likely to have strong country singers in the finals.

  2. I loved the finale – American Idol is king of television finales and I have a few things to say in relation to people’s opinions of this show and its talent:

    – I don’t think you understand quite how big the show is over there. There is no way it will fall flat after one season of X Factor… They are on the same channel and will probably complement each other if anything with X Factor giving birth to some huge groups in coming years and Idol being more enjoyed for its younger, solo talent.
    – I don’t think you understand quite how big the talent is received over there – It’s not Australian Idol and the winner will not be forgotten in the next 10 years. Whether an international star like Lambert, or a national star like Lee DeWyze had proved to be, Soctty will be successful though I didn’t want him to win.
    – Many people will get record contracts from the top 13. It doesn’t really matter who wins or whether America ‘gets it right’ – the industry will when all is said and done.

  3. I would have been happy with either result. Lauren was such a sweetie and showed great humility and maturity that belies her incredible youth. Scotty i liked from the very first audition – that voice is incredible again for such a young man. They will both secure contracts, only time will tell on the longevity. country music is still very viable and hot in the States, so ifhe gets a good producer then he will propel upwards. Does the world need another Carrie Underwood? Lauren will need to perhaps model herself on a Shania Twain or Faith Hill. An enjoyable season for me, anyway. I warmed to Steven and Jennifer; and thought James and Casey were amazing potential idols too. Yeah, 4 years in a row a bloke wins, but Scotty isn’t bland; that voice is other worldly – in the richest traditions of American country music. A freak of nature – that and his likeability, spunkyness and very poised yet humble demeanour did the trick. Good on him!

  4. Had to laugh at Scotty winning despite the show’s mega-pimping of Lauren in the last performance show. Iovine gives Scotty a country song that’s even stupid by country standards (I Love You That Big; seriously?) and he still wins. I guess a female won’t ever win this show again in the forseeable future.

  5. LOL what a joke as if hel last past 1 album before hes forgotten. Haley should be one only decent performer. X factor is gunna crap all over this. If cher lloyd and uk x factor have anything to go by!!

  6. Sorry this is yet another boring winner. Lee from last year and Kris the year before, just boring and that is what he is. Lauren on the otherhand was matching it with Carrie and well i believe she should have won. Mind you America have got it wrong all season so why i am not surprised they got the winner wrong too. In all it should have been Pia, Lauren or Haley but not Scotty. I am really disappointed in this result. Oh well Idol will probably fall flat on its face next season with X Factor coming this September.

  7. So bummed that Scotty won! His single is awful too. And what’s with all the Scotty Hotty signs?

Just watching the male medley made me think that all the other guys were way better than Scotty. Anyway enough with all the negativity- he still is very good at performing and could have a good country career.

  8. What disgusts me about the finale is that Lady Gaga performed with Clarence Clemons, a musical superstar in his own right and not only did they not introduce him with Gaga, but not even mention him at all.

Shame, Shame, Shame American Idol not recognising this great man.

  9. Congrats to Scotty. He wasn’t my favourite, but still, the top 13 was pretty talented this season.

Anyone else think Pia Toscano sings Beyonce better than Beyonce?

A little disappointed that the rumours weren’t true and that Haley didn’t get to perform her debut single.

    A very enjoyable finale.

  10. It was a great finale! I’d forgotten about the actual American Idol competiton because I was enjoying the performances. Good to see Scotty win, didn’t mind who won. America loves their country music so the result was no surprise. And thanks again to FOX8 for screening it live!
