Survivor update

Survivor fans beware of online Spoilers. The finale won't air in Australia until next week.

Survivor fans beware.

The finale to the current season airs today in the US. Watch out for those online Spoilers.

It won’t air in Australia until Tuesday of next week, May 24th, when GO! screens the 2hr finale at 8:30pm followed by the Reunion (where the winner is actually declared) at 10:30pm.

It’s unfortunate that Aussie viewers have to wait for this one. Survivor fans were annoyed with Nine for starting the season late, but the view was that we would catch up. We did catch up but then it was also rested a week and now we have finished more than a week later.

Still, Nine is not alone in delays to reality finales. Seven’s finale of Amazing Race this Wednesday actually took place in the US on Sunday last week.

  1. Sorry to pile on @roaringdave but when trending topics on Twitter show the names of winners, losers and the like – it’s very hard to avoid. And while I’d like to avoid those sites etc, when your job requires it – you can’t really say, no boss, I don’t want to be spoiled about the Survivor winner.

  2. @roaringdave, i was one of those people that never relied on other sources and instead waited for it on tv. I got sick of spoilers months in advance particularly Lost, Survivor, Amazing Race spoilers. Even last year i watched Survivor on GO!, went on to the GO! website where they had a photo of the final 3, despite being several episodes behind on tv. Time the networks woke up to themselves and moved with the times.

  3. @roaringdave … I don’t think it’s about showing off. Not for me any way. I have in the past carefully avoided websites only to be zinged by innocently watching shows like Letterman, Ellen and The View. It’s too hard to maintain a total media blackout for 2 weeks or more.

  4. @roaringdave — Because in these days of instant information, it’s almost impossible to avoid seeing or reading or browsing by something that reveals spoilers about favourite TV shows.

  5. It always amazes me that people cannot wait around 7 – 10 days to see the finale of these two shows. TAR is my favourite show and I have no problem avoiding finding out who won. I just avoid relevant websites. I think people like showing off that they have seen the finales prior to other people.

  6. Not good enough Nine. Didn’t watch any of this season on Nine cos you were too slow, and i ain’t waiting for the finale either.

Seen The Amazing Race finale also.

    Stupid networks

  7. Fun Fact: In 2002, 9 fast-tracked the finale of Survivor: Australian Outback (aired on the same night as US). They almost doubled the audience of the first episode. There’s still an audience there if they treat the show right.

  8. I can’t see why they couldn’t of shown the finale on Wednesday. Having that long of a delay it is going to be really hard not to find oud who won.

  9. … and over on FOX8, we get American Idol fast-tracked within a few hours every week, with the finale being broadcast live into Australia, like it has been over the past few years. Now that’s fast-tracking!

  10. Might be difficult for a week. I’d lost the Amazing Race couldn’t find the day time or channel. 7 have always done that with TAR even in the first season.

  11. Yes I was very annoyed that 9 started the season late. So naturally having lost all trust in 9 I had to resort to self help. Wait till next week? I don’t think so.
