I watched the US biggest loser just to compare the trainers to ours. It was funny when Bob and Jillian were watching the contestants train on there own and they had no idea what to do with the equipment.

It was a very good catch in the game where one person from each team had to go and can come back in 4 weeks.

It was also a different reaction for the US contestants compared to ours with being on the show. The australian contestants we saw them looking in the mirror at themselves and they were crying and getting upset and depressed about how they looked. The US contestants are jumping up and down and high fiving because they made the show and were acting as if they were on a agme show. Although some of them were really big.

    sorry, meant to say ‘decrease’!

  3. Tony Mac May 8, 2011 at 7:00 pm -

@ranco yes but it’s on a different night to previous years so not that great an increase. Not as bad as the drop in the uk.

  4. Ranco May 8, 2011 at 1:39 pm -

Doctor Who on the slight increase… But drop on the overall weekly ranking?

  5. DAN May 8, 2011 at 1:37 pm -

TBL US did ok but i would like to see it pick up a bit it was the first show that i have ever watched on elven i wish ten would pay to get it up on foxtel satelite because i could series link TBL USA rather than having to remember it is on

    Thanks, yes Brisbane not Melb.

  7. Dale May 8, 2011 at 12:56 pm -

Saturday Night AFL was Brisbane only, not Melbourne. Do you know the ratings for the Saturday Night AFL on One?

  8. Dave May 8, 2011 at 12:48 pm -

David is Saturday Night AFL TEN 102,000 (Melb only) correct? Only Brisbane had Saturday Night AFL on TEN and ONE.

  9. David Knox May 8, 2011 at 12:29 pm -

    Saturday Afternoon AFL One 109,000
Saturday Night AFL TEN 102,000 (Bris only) corrected.

  10. Adam May 8, 2011 at 11:55 am -

No AFL n Ten get pushed back to 4th place. I guess Ten have to get used to it.

I still don’t like Ten’s multi channel strategy as I think all 3 channels are skewed towards the youth. They need to get more older viewers on 1 of the channels to @ least put some pressure on 7 who seem to have it right.

  11. Joe May 8, 2011 at 11:43 am -

David, what were the ratings for Saturday Night Football between Gold Coast FC and Brisbane Lions in Brisbane?

  12. Dave May 8, 2011 at 11:33 am -

David do you have any Brisbane figures for Saturday night AFL – Gold Coast vs Brisbane on Channel 10 and ONE? Cheers

  13. Jas May 8, 2011 at 11:31 am -

Apparently there was no AFL match on Ten or One last night (except in Brisbane), which I’m guessing is because of the match on Monday night. Also, what happened to the broadcast last night? With about 3 minutes to go in a very exciting match, it cuts to an episode of “Pathfinder”, whatever that is, for about 30 secs…on both Ten And One! There was mild panic in this household.

  14. Johnson May 8, 2011 at 11:25 am -

David, do you have the ratings for the AFL clash between the Suns and the Lions last night? Thanks.

  15. 42HD May 8, 2011 at 10:52 am -

Re: Amazing Race ratings: There are only so many people to go round watching TV – with 3 million watching either Masterchef or Australia’s Got (no) Talent, everything else at that time suffered. Add to that the sudden double episode and the average drags down.

  16. 42HD May 8, 2011 at 10:50 am -

Vampire Diaries: Change the regular night a show airs, and watch the ratings drop. When will any channel ever learn? Is there an example anywhere to suggest changing the night a show airs ever helps its ratings?

  23. David Knox May 7, 2011 at 1:25 pm -

Yes, apologies for this, Nine won. Hopefully even I am allowed the occasional slip up for working on a weekend. Now corrected.

  24. Rob May 7, 2011 at 12:02 pm -

David – I know you don’t add up the network ratings, but I think there’s been an error with Friday night’s figures? Seven is listed as winning the night but, if my maths is correct, I think Nine’s total actually adds up to a 29.9% share?

Nevertheless, Seven should have this week wrapped up. Unstoppable at the moment. Quick note about Sunrise vs Today: it’s very close along the eastern seaboard, but courtesy of WA and SA Sunrise continues to notch up wins. Even though Today’s come back, I don’t know whether the Sunrise team should be changing too much as has been touted. I think a win is a win and let Today catch them. Today was bound to eventually comeback somewhat, but they’re still in second place.

  25. IRT May 7, 2011 at 11:47 am -

The combined 9/GO!/GEM looks like it should be 29.9

  26. Belinda May 7, 2011 at 11:19 am -

Great to see George Negus doing well and gives us options at 6.30pm, Finally

  30. A. May 6, 2011 at 7:28 pm -

    @ Jerome

I can’t say about others but for me The Vampire Diaries are against Sci-fi Thursday on Eleven. I’ve read other people like Grey’s Anatomy. I’ll admit I’d watch if they paired it with Fringe on Wednesday. But hey as long as they repeat it I might see it. Or I’ll have to get the DVDs.

  31. Jerome May 6, 2011 at 7:06 pm -

    thank you david!
wow those numbers for the vampire diaries are really low. It pretty much confirms what I expected though, moving it to thursdays and being 2 weeks behind the US instead of 3 days behind has hurt go!’s viewership of the show significantly. Before they moved it, I remember it was usually getting between 130,000 and 150,000. I guess tougher competiton and the lack of “fast-tracking” has caused people to get it elsewhere or stop watching completely. Very interesting.

  32. David Knox May 6, 2011 at 6:05 pm -

    Vampire Diaries: 87,000.

  33. Jerome May 6, 2011 at 5:56 pm -

    Hey David
wondering if you could put up for the numbers for the vampire diaries on go! last night.
    thanks in advance :D

Great ep of the Good Wife

  35. john b May 6, 2011 at 4:22 pm -

Haha so much talk over wet pavement in Masterchef. Next thing you know Today Tonight will be doing a story on it. It’s just water, guys!

  36. Allie May 6, 2011 at 4:18 pm -

Agree about the floor of the Masterchef kitchen at Cockatoo island, it looks dangerous to me. A couple of nights ago one of the contestants slipped over and went flying. it is obviously dangerous to have a damp floor in a work area, particularly an area where people are handling knives and assorted electrical equipment. Surely, it must be a breach of Occupational Health and Safety Laws. Does WorkSafe NSW know about this?

  37. Eye Spy May 6, 2011 at 3:49 pm -

mv comment and David explanation re. wet floor on Masterchef.
Thanks for that, I thought it was because some of the more nervous contestants were p…ing themselves.

  38. Moanique Rothschild May 6, 2011 at 2:17 pm -

Well the wet floor on MC doesn’t add shine to it for me. It looks ugly and dangerous. Luckily the food is not for public consumption, or they would never be allowed to prepare and cook it in such an unhygienic environment. Maybe they could hose down the judges, they could do with a bit of shine.

  39. Geoff May 6, 2011 at 12:29 pm -

If you move Airways from Thursdays to Monday’s with Border Security, don’t replace How I Met Your Mother with No Ordinary Family— How I Met Your Mother has been Great this year, the best American Comedy on Australian Television– put it back on back-to-back episodes to finish the season first before they remove it again.

  40. Mr. chandler May 6, 2011 at 12:20 pm -

once the top 24 start the numbers will grow again for master chef. i can’t see agt beating it and i can’t see them showing performers as good as jack on ever show to compete with masterchef to get the ratings up

  41. catherine May 6, 2011 at 11:46 am -

I reckon ch7 should have put airways on monday at 7:30 or even at 8 and put on new eps of the force or border security. Ordianary family should be moved to thursdays because I reckon it will drop & thursdays seem low night anyway. Airwyas last year on sunday nights was almost the top show every week.

The good wife was brilliant again. It was only time before the secret got out and it was a good ending.

MC is frustrating me because they make it obvious on who is going or staying. I know they dont have the time to show everyones dishes but the people they get to make comments you know are probably going through. Some of the contestants last night we didnt even see there plate or them cooking just to know what they were making.

  42. ohyeah May 6, 2011 at 11:27 am -

GO! is finding it hard to be on top this year!

  43. Joe S May 6, 2011 at 10:29 am -

I still rate ‘A Good Wife’ highly and can’t understand the low numbers. Suppose someone starting to watch it midway through will find it hard to follow but still…

  44. Craig Hardie May 6, 2011 at 10:05 am -

    15 Air Ways Seven 676,000 194,000 218,000 113,000 75,000 76,000

Surprise of the week right there….it was doing about 1.3m on a sunday last year…

  45. mv May 6, 2011 at 2:53 am -

    Thanks for settling that David.

On another note, I recently have been watching The Sopranos on 7mate, although I have already watched all seasons, it was a long time ago and I enjoy watching it again. But I never know what season they are showing or what time it’s going to be on? Tonight (or this morn) they had two episodes on, (instead of the one advertised) so I missed half the first episode which was from the final series then the one after it was from an earlier series.

Is it really so hard to show episodes in order and at the same time every night?? And seriously this is a great show how late do they have to put it on?? Surely they could start it at 10.30 instead of after 12!

I am so sick of TV stations having no idea how to treat their viewers, then they wonder why TV viewing numbers are down!

Sorry in advance for any mistakes but I really should be asleep and am going cross eyed… Good night!

  46. David Knox May 6, 2011 at 1:58 am -

The wet floor is an aesthetic to give the show a shine. Previous seasons have often watered down the entrance outside the MC kitchen for the same reason.

  47. mv May 6, 2011 at 1:28 am -

@Maev, very true. Maybe they do it because they think it looks good on tv or maybe to settle the dust for cooking hygiene reasons??? For some strange reason i am intrigued.

  48. Maev May 5, 2011 at 10:29 pm -

    @ mv….and dangerous…..I commented on this myself during the first show…and a few seconds later….one contestan….blonde lady….slipped and fell……
I was also concerned for Maggie Beer…older person…carrying a tray with a cloche on top….scary!

  49. Craig May 5, 2011 at 8:05 pm -

So much for the Gold Logie rubbing off on the the rest of the weeks shows.

  50. mv May 5, 2011 at 7:53 pm -

Also so glad Ch 10 finally moved Negus to 6.30, very good move. It’s such a good show and love the combination of 6.30 with George, 7pm then Masterchef. Love it!

  51. mv May 5, 2011 at 7:49 pm -

So glad masterchef has started again, finally something to watch! But it’s been bugging me as to why the floor of the warehouse is always wet? weird!

  52. Peter A May 5, 2011 at 7:29 pm -

AGT cares more about the judges than the talent…..

  53. Anthony May 5, 2011 at 6:06 pm -

Good to see Negus numbers ticking upwards.

  54. Cookie May 5, 2011 at 5:20 pm -

Great numbers for W&L considering its later time slot

  55. Cookie May 5, 2011 at 5:19 pm -

Masterchef is going down. AGT is so much better

  56. Allie May 5, 2011 at 5:17 pm -

I reckon George Negus will catch up to ACA within a couple of months. ACA has been on a downward trajectory for some time now, and with the whole of the Nine schedule going to Hell in a handbasket at the moment, it’s bound to happen.

  57. catherine May 5, 2011 at 4:04 pm -

Good to see AGT can stand up against MC. I actually taped MC and preferred to watch AGT. There are some strange and funny people out there.

So glad to have Spicks and Specks back. Its a shame that the episodes dont go for an hour every week. It was very funny.

I watched the new series Big on ch9 and I hope at the end of the series they reveal how everyone has gone because in each episode they just focus on the 1 person then thats the end of the episode. Last night the guy was all over the place. Losing 40kg then putting on 18kg. But then next week it s a ew person.

  58. A. May 5, 2011 at 2:56 pm -

Thanks David for the figures. :)

  59. Sacs May 5, 2011 at 2:30 pm -

    Nine: Still the One……..coming third.

  60. David @ Green Point May 5, 2011 at 2:17 pm -

On Monday night, George topped 1,190,000 (with the combined time-slots – plus a little help from the Bin).

    Tuesday night, 964,000.

    Wednesday night, 784,000

I reckon George will slay ACA (with 6.30 figures alone) within 13 Mondays.

Of course, it would happen a lot faster if TEN would tweak their 5 pm news block
and target males from 6 pm with a hard-hitting half-hour sporting programme – Boots ‘n’ All.

That would give George a better lead-in than the current wimpy stretched out 90 min bulletin.

And, again, Little Lachie: this advise is offered free of charge…

  61. Pete May 5, 2011 at 1:04 pm -

Give it three months and Negus could catch ACA!

  62. Bogues May 5, 2011 at 11:56 am -

Nine third three nights in the row. If it wasn’t for the Logies, Nine could quite possibly be placed third this week.

  63. Nick May 5, 2011 at 11:37 am -

Panic at nine, Must be there worst week of ratings in years. And rightly so, with the garbage they have been producing this year.

  64. bruce May 5, 2011 at 11:02 am -

Was Wednesday nights Criminal Minds really a repeat? That show deserves better ratings its great

  65. Peps May 5, 2011 at 10:42 am -

A Current Affair has been slipping in the ratings…is it possible Negus is having an impact or is it perhaps more the person who is hosting ACA at the moment?

  66. Nik C May 5, 2011 at 10:11 am -

I watched Madagascar last night and then realsied it was going to go past 8:30. So I switched to Spicks and Specks and missed then end! (I was recording TAR)
This is why Commerical channels shou;ldn’t ‘steal’ shows from the ABC they can air it in an hour without adverts!
    Annoyed!

  67. steve May 5, 2011 at 10:10 am -

ACA is in trouble and rightly so. Last night they had stories on Masterchef, botox helping headaches and of course another cheap supermarket shopper. They’ll have to sink to below 800,000 before they wake up i think.

Whilst TEN maybe celebrating coming 2nd in the night once again, they should consider bringing new episodes of the Simpsons back to the primary channel. 169,000 for a new episode maybe an ok figure for a digital channel but i remember they used to get close to a million when on TEN.

  68. MuchoTB May 5, 2011 at 9:59 am -

Detroit 187 flopped, was it on at 9:30 or 10 last night? Either way I expect Seven will bump it sooner than later

Lie to me finally increases in ratings thanks to having Glee as a lead-in. Still not the most popular show but 600k is definitely better than what it was getting last month.

  69. David Knox May 5, 2011 at 9:26 am -

    Fringe: 100,000
    Spartacus: 98,000
    Fringe ep 2: 85,000

Kev: I don’t create the ratings, OzTAM do,
Brett: Subscribe to OzTAM or ask a friendly blogger. ;-)

  70. Kev May 5, 2011 at 2:44 am -

David, I think you should separate ABC for Kids and ABC2

  71. Brett Ramsey May 5, 2011 at 2:00 am -

How do we get hold of ratings for programs that don’t make the top 100? I’d love to see a State by State breakdown of RPM on ONE and Speedweek on SBS but I can’t get them from anywhere on the net and the stations certainly won’t tell me.
ONE HD said online that the ratings for RPM were spectacular! But the only one I’ve seen was 35’000 Nationally which is a long way short of being spectacular in my book.

  72. ryan May 4, 2011 at 8:32 pm -

Well george proved me wrong, i said he would hit 500,000 this week and he smashed that and got 600 plus 2 days in a row!! Now i wonder how long till he hits the 800,000 mark?? If he hits that mark it will be a success. And to think all ten had to do is listen to their audience from the beginning and he would prob be there already.
On another note it took Masterchef over 7 weeks to hit over the 2m mark last yr so will it hit 2m sooner this yr?

  73. kevin May 4, 2011 at 5:30 pm -

whoa!!! like nearly all shows on ten are up coz of masterchef :D:D.

Really happy 7pm and george are doing well, ten’s my favourite channel so im happy to see that. Numbers bit low for biggest loser but meh.

  74. ducko May 4, 2011 at 4:21 pm -

    @ Rick2,
If ABC News Breakfast were on Network Ten,with those figures it would be declared a success & probably win a Logie next year.

  75. Maev May 4, 2011 at 4:13 pm -

I read the ratings…as a matter of interest…..but they do not decide my viewing pattern….
I watch what I like….no matter how the show rates…and that includes ‘The Circle’….may not be everyone’s show….but do not knock it until you have at least watched it all the way through….You may be pleasantly susprised…as I was.

  76. Moanique Rothschild May 4, 2011 at 4:08 pm -

@eye spy, lol, they probably compare it to McHales Navy

@steve, no I reckon Winners & Losers will stay steady at about 1.2 m. It’s got quite a few interesting storylines unfolding.

  77. Craig May 4, 2011 at 3:25 pm -

A now low for Top Gear on Nine, I know it wasn’t on in Vic but 222k for the rest of the country is just embarrassing. To quote a line from the AU show, ‘What were they thinking?’

  78. Geoff May 4, 2011 at 2:32 pm -

@ JB, I for one am a Sunrise viewer–but watched the Today show on Monday, not soo much because of Karl’s gold logie win but because of how entertaining Karl was last year still drunk after the Logies.

    Drunken Karl= Ratings!

  79. Rick2 May 4, 2011 at 2:26 pm -

Thanks for those ABC News Brkfast numbers David. Wow, even adding the few extra viewers of the show on ABC24, that’s an awful lot of resource for an awfully small audience. Esp considering the Bin Laden news of the last few days.
