3 episodes of Offspring and they still havn’t break into the million barrier for season 2. but you got to get these things a chance i suppose and the second season has only just started. Season 2 dosn’t mean shit i guess since 10 has already given Offspring a 3rd season contract so i was told. i don’t like the show but i like to see which aussie shows get for ratings since it’s a learning curve for me. i want to become writer, i’m writing something of my own strickly as a hobbie but i would love to share with everybody one day.
please forgive me for my poor grammar,

It was a great episode of Doctor Who; so much so, I’ll admit I watched the repeat too.

  3. Matthew See May 22, 2011 at 7:54 pm -

Good to see that both Doctor Who & Spooks were strong performers on May 21.

With Spooks season 9 dusted, it will interesting to see what the ratings are going to be for Doctor Who & Outcasts being shown back to back together from next Saturday.

Thanks for the heads-up re the ratings, David. We’re just lucky that you post on weekends at all!

Guys please note due to some publishing issues today, latest ratings will be posted later this arvo. Thanks.

  8. Jeff May 22, 2011 at 10:08 am -

I just wonder if we should have a rating figure of the amount of people per week that are switching to just watching a DVD, I think the TV industry really needs to look at the volume of repeat product they are pushing.

Hey Jonathan, would be interested in knowing more……

  10. Jerome May 21, 2011 at 5:36 pm -

@Joe. 7 performed better this week with a delayed lesser-profile match compared to last weeks big live match. Thats nothing new. Live footy might be what fans want but as far as ratings go 7 have nothing to be excited about next year.

  11. Aneets May 21, 2011 at 3:28 pm -

It was at 3am so hopefully it will get regular rotation during normal hours. Who else was wise enough to quote your praise?

  12. David @ Green Point May 21, 2011 at 3:14 pm -

    Vale: Macho Man Randy Savage.

Hey David – assumed you’re a fan of the old wrestling days.

Savage was killed yesterday after he (apparently) suffered a heart attack and lost control of the car he was driving in Florida.

His wife (of about 12 months) was a passenger – she suffered bruises and cuts.

Sad news – he was a superb performer and promo guy.

  14. Natasha May 21, 2011 at 2:31 pm -

I don’t watch Master Chef on Fridays…its pretty boring just watching the contestants watch the judges cook something.

  15. mels May 21, 2011 at 12:03 pm -

Hey David how come Rush Hour 2 is not on the list can you please tell me what the rating was?

  16. Adam May 21, 2011 at 11:36 am -

Massive win again to 7 on Friday night. It really is not deserved. 9 show live sport @ least n 7 nearly has a 10pt primary channel thumping. I know AFL is more popular but you would think so many people would not watch it if it’s available on radio etc
7 should keep B H & G next year n put it on multi channel down south.

  17. jonathan May 21, 2011 at 11:16 am -

    @ Aneets
Yes Aneets, its not the first time. This site is an ‘affiliate’ of nine network.

  18. Joe May 21, 2011 at 10:56 am -

Better homes and gardens once again smashed by the football shown after it in Melbourne and Adelaide. Makes you wonder why 7 just don’t show it on Thursday night as they lose Thursdays to Nine. They will be forced to show gardens on another day next year as Seven is showing the football at 7.30 as of 2012, so they may as well start showing it on another day soon (most likely Thursday) so they can get people to change their viewing habits gradually overtime.

  19. David Knox May 21, 2011 at 10:13 am -

Thanks. It’s not the first time, but it’s been a while. I haven’t seen the ad myself yet!

I think One could do better with a local edition of sports tonight and a ‘pardon the interruption’ type show in early prime time. Not sure if shows like Airline are going to attract the right core demo (men 18-49, 25-54) One are looking for.

  23. James May 20, 2011 at 2:59 pm -

A win to Nine, however unlikely to count as a win once 7 day consolidated viewing arrives next Friday. 7′s lineup always rates at the top of Thursday records.

  24. steve May 20, 2011 at 12:44 pm -

Ok .. i was not expecting Nine to win the night (Thursday)

In fact, i don’t even think Nine expected it either!

  25. David Knox May 20, 2011 at 12:17 pm -

This week new Getaway airs tonight on GEM, but returns to Nine next week. Testing the waters?

    Fringe was 112,000.

  26. Peps May 20, 2011 at 12:14 pm -

Has Getaway been bumped or is it just being rested?

  27. A. May 20, 2011 at 12:10 pm -

Did the Fringe figures get abducted into another universe? Or can you peak over there to retrieve them? ;)

  28. Bogues May 20, 2011 at 11:29 am -

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Channel Ten was third in the ratings, but the network came second with the help of the multichannels. This time last year, the situation would be different.

Ten must be very happy with One and ELEVEN at the moment.

  29. David Knox May 20, 2011 at 11:25 am -

    Airline 84,000.

  30. mjr May 20, 2011 at 11:23 am -

    David,

Do know how Airline is doing at 7.00 on ONE?

  31. David @ Green Point May 20, 2011 at 10:54 am -

How nice to see The Good Wife finally gaining viewers. It’s always been a good show but, lately, the story lines have been endowed with more bite and Chris Noth ain’t in it much – good..

Even Despos is holding on to an average 620,000 per week. We still record and watch later.

Between the Lines is being re-branded as Beneath the Waves as it sinks further and closer to the Elephant Graveyard of 9′s programme department.

Re 9′s Advertiser Breakfast to explain what they’re doing, I reckon the menu will feature generous servings of tripe. Is Eddie hosting? Then there’ll be plenty of ham as well.

  32. David Knox May 20, 2011 at 10:35 am -

    ST: NG was 116,000.

  33. A. May 20, 2011 at 10:27 am -

Has the Melbourne TV market passed the Sydney TV market in terms of recorded numbers? 7/10 top shows in the country have more viewers in Melbourne than Sydney.

  35. Ann May 20, 2011 at 9:44 am -

I see 9 is hosting breakfasts next week to explain to advertisers what they are doing.

    Hope the food is good.

  36. pete May 19, 2011 at 9:09 pm -

    @ Geoff

Yes of course I watch Angry Boys to have cared enough to coment on it.

To me it has been nothing but lazy, humourless and boring so far. Heres hoping ep 3 picks up where Lilley’s prior work left off. So far its a Complete fizzer- to me.

  37. Harry May 19, 2011 at 8:03 pm -

Agree Angry Boys was a little flat last night. S.Mouse is not even that funny – his dad is funnier. I’m loving Gran though; she’s fastly becoming one my favourite Chris Lilley characters !

  38. Trix May 19, 2011 at 4:13 pm -

Thanks @Geoff for your assessment. I can understand some initial disappointment at Angry Boys so far, but Chris Lilley is a master strategist who’ll build the interweaving strands into a narrative whole. And we haven’t even met all the characters yet!

He’s just a dude, disguised as a dude, playing another dude! Ah, I love Tropic Thunder.

  39. A. May 19, 2011 at 3:19 pm -

David I’m afraid to ask but what were the Fringe figures please?

  40. Evan May 19, 2011 at 3:14 pm -

I think Angry Boys so far is a big disappointment, not up to the standard of Chris Lilley’s previous offerings. There haven’t yet been any laugh out loud moments for me, and I also miss the likes of J’amie, Mr Gee, Jonah.
It’s a shame that East West 101 doesn’t get a bigger audience – it’s gritty, in your face drama, really well acted too.

  41. billy c May 19, 2011 at 3:01 pm -

I think Lilly has been watching too much of Safran’s recent work. Confusing comedy for attempting to be scandalous and achieving neither. S.Mouse was not very good, the Dad was okay, Lilly should let some other people have some lines. This really should be six eps crammed full of the segments that actually have jokes in them.

  42. Michael May 19, 2011 at 2:38 pm -

Haha, David @ Green Point has become TV Tonight’s resident psychic. Your prediction for tonight, of course MC will win tonight, it doesn’t have any competition… and of course Seven will win the night, Ten is unlikely to do so and Nine, well… that ain’t gonna happen!

Angry Boys has its moments but generally not that great. The gags are becoming very repititive. S.Mouse wasn’t funny at all, all he did was swear the entire time. Gran is the best thing about the show at the moment. Hopefully it gets better.

  43. ryan May 19, 2011 at 2:33 pm -

Sons of anarchy was great last night and i’m soo loving it! Ten should have it on @ 8.30 though.

  44. Geoff May 19, 2011 at 2:17 pm -

@ Kev— The American’s aren’t as fussed by “black face” as you think, for example the movie Tropic Thunder, a film that earned $129 million dollars at the US Box Office and featured Robert Downey Jnr playing an Australian playing a Black-faced American. Angry Boys has been co-produced by HBO and I will guarantee you that they will air all 12 episodes without edits and that the S.Mouse character will go over as hugely popular in the States.

@ Pete– do you even watch Angry Boys? Because your lack of knowledge on Summer Heights High doesn’t reassure me that you’ve watched either. The only connection between the 3 characters in Summer Heights High is that they attended the same school.

Where as with Angry Boys all the characters are already connected in some way. Nathan & Daniel Sims are the twins, who’s Grandmother is “Gran” from the Juvenile Prison centre as seen by their Skype chats. S.Mouse is Nathan & Daniel’s favorite rapper and because Nathan copied S.Mouse’s antics is the reason he is getting sent away to Deaf School and leads to the main story of them holding a “Going Away Party” for Nathan with his “Legends” which will include S.Mouse and both the future mentioned Surfer and Skateboarder. ]

If anything Angry Boys story’s are better related then We Can Be Heroes & Summer Heights High.

  45. Finn May 19, 2011 at 1:38 pm -

I agree Angry Boys is a real disappointment. I’m a huge Chris Lilley fan but it just isnt funny to me.
Crazy amount of swearing but no laughs. Gran is the only character that creates a bit of a smile probably because she seems a derivative of Mr Gee. He has a huge amount of goodwill but I’d give it one more go and expect ratings to drop soon if it doesn’t pick up.

  46. David @ Green Point May 19, 2011 at 12:45 pm -

Glad to see half a dozen other scribes expressing concern over Angry Boys content (& overall entertainment value).

Think I was the only one last week who believed ep 1 left a lot to be desired (“F..k and the Bird”, remember? Last night, a minor drop of 22,000 compared to last week. Will be interesting to check te numbers next week.

Started to give ep 2 a go but the wife lent over and said “we can live without this tripe”.

She was right. Mind you, we’d just watched a DVD of Cher’s latest release “Burlesque”… which was also tripe.

    Tonight?

Masterchef for a big win, the Good Wive will gather strength at the expense of Behind the Lines, which will sink beneath 600,000 (causing 9 to pull it from future schedules and replace it with another CSI brand repeat).

7 takes a backseat on Thursdays… but will still win the night, thanks to its other brands.

  47. steve May 19, 2011 at 12:40 pm -

    @Allie

It does have a good reputation for it’s food but it does have one of the worst reputations in the state with incidents of violence on friday nights and weekends. Although i believe they are addressing it and it has recently improved.

Keep in mind the contestants for that challenge did have almost 5 hours, so with a team of about 10 people each they should have done alot better. They guy not getting the steaks right again and again was embarrassing. As i said excellent television haha!

  48. pete May 19, 2011 at 12:39 pm -

Angry Boys 2 eps in, and still no geuine funny moment. Really dissapointed with this one. We can Be Heroes, and Summer Heights High, far superior product. Apart from not being funny, their is no cohesion with Angry Boys, there all a series of unrelated stories with nothing gluing them together, for example, Summer Heights High, all character were related in the sense that they all pulled together to produce the musical. In We can be Heroes the common theme was all characters were aiming to be Australian of the Year. In Angry Boys, no one leads to anyhthing. And the comedy is just not there. Well thats my opinion anyways.

  49. JB May 19, 2011 at 12:04 pm -

Yep last nights episode of Angry Boys was simply terrible. S.mouse is just not funny at all. And i want to laugh but i feel sorry for the dog wanker.

  50. Johnson May 19, 2011 at 12:02 pm -

Love the Fleetwood Mac episode of Glee last night. Pleased to see the program bouncing back in the ratings after dropping to the 800,000 mark last week.

  51. Craig May 19, 2011 at 11:46 am -

Nine only entry in the top 10 is the news at 8th, wonder if we’ll see another round of changes in their lineup next week?

  52. Kev May 19, 2011 at 11:30 am -

    @ Adam,

Americans tend to be incredibly sensitive about white guys in “blackface”, so I’m wondering if last night’s episode of Angry Boys will even go to air in the USA.

  53. David Knox May 19, 2011 at 11:27 am -

Thanks Steve. Not the first time, but good to hear. It’s not their best work, but it’s still fun.

  54. bettestreep2008 May 19, 2011 at 11:23 am -

Wow – Nine’s main channel is being thrashed.

If it wasn’t for GO! or Gem – they would have come fourth – behind the ABC!

Wonder what Nine has up it’s sleeves for the rest of the year? So far – with the exception of Come Fly with Me – they have had no ratings blockbuster to be proud of.

Seven has won the year already IMO.

  55. Adam May 19, 2011 at 11:22 am -

    @steve
Agreed, last nights episode of Angry Boys was just really bad. I’ll still watch the entire season though, but I think the s.mouse character is definitely the death of the show and sadly appears to be tailored towards the US audience

  56. Kieran May 19, 2011 at 11:22 am -

Wow, Excellent numbers for (a very woeful episode of) Angry Boys… the test now is to see if it’s audience still holds on to it next week!
But good to see it is the most watched program in Melbourne last night

  57. Allie May 19, 2011 at 11:14 am -

@steve, the Fiddler looks like an awesome pub, i’ve always wanted to go for a meal there as its good reputation is known far and wide. I live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and I am well aware of it.

Again, in my humble opinion the challenge was too hard for contestants at this early point in the comp. The teams had to come up with an original seven item menu, prep all of it unassisted, then cook it all unassisted once the dockets flooded in. Then George had the unmitigated gall to go off at them for panicking. Oh come on, you have got to be kidding me. Their argument is that by now contestants should be well aware of what is expected from them, but last night that was borderline sadistic. A home cook two weeks into the competition is not mentally or practically equipped to cope with such stresses. I think the producers are forgetting that they are all amateur cooks with no real idea of commercial cookery, despite their foodie wannabe pretensions.

  58. steve May 19, 2011 at 11:06 am -

Just saw a promo for next week’s come fly with me.

They’re using your review from here David. Your famous now :)

  59. steve May 19, 2011 at 10:11 am -

    Angry Boys maintained it’s audience.

I dunno, if the Asian mother character isn’t anything special then i’m giving up. Last night’s episode was woeful! MasterChef was excellent, I had no idea they filmed at the Fiddler. It’s 2 blocks away from my house! I could’ve been on the telly

  60. MuchoTB May 19, 2011 at 6:01 am -

    Channels:
    Seven: 26.6
    Nine: 15.9
    Ten: 18.5

If it weren’t for multichannels, Nine would be screwed

  61. Ann May 18, 2011 at 9:32 pm -

Bad for 9, the late Kerry Packer would be thumping the table if still involved and you hear it from a long distance

  62. Allie May 18, 2011 at 8:15 pm -

@TDJ, that is always a problem i’ve had with DWTS, the lack of transparency re the money raised for charity. I have watched almost every series and not once in all that time has the amount raised for charity by contestants been mentioned, not once. I believe the vote money it is split four ways – Telstra, the production company, Seven, then the charity. I saw an item about it several years ago, and from memory, the charity gets about 7% or so of the vote money. It is absolutely minimal, the lion’s share goes to Telstra and the network.

  63. Maev May 18, 2011 at 7:08 pm -

and I am struggling to think of anything I want to watch on Nine….
    Maybe Antiques Road Show….?!?

  64. Moanique Rothschild May 18, 2011 at 6:12 pm -

@TDJ, I remember hearing a while ago that the amount that went to charity from the DWTS voting was minimal. I have watched every season of DWTS and love the show, but have never cast a vote. I voted for Anthony Callea on Idol because I thought he was so damn good. There would be a good percentage of people like me who have never ever voted.

  65. tom bluegreen May 18, 2011 at 6:01 pm -

    @TDJ
All tv shows are “money raising scam” ;)
    Its business ;)

  66. TDJ May 18, 2011 at 3:17 pm -

If people want to know the truth about these types of programs eg. DWTS, then research companies like Endemol, who are responsible for the format. They were never anything more than a money raising scam. They certainly figured out how gullible so many people are and that you could make a lot of money. There is no good reason to charge people other than making a buck. Votes could be cast for free. As for DWTS giving money to charities. They have already been criticized for the low amount they give and the high amount they keep for themselves. Another con. Just because you portray a good intention does not mean it is genuine. Just like the arguments and crisis that are “staged” and “scripted” to suck in the gullible, and it is working so well. People really need to wake the hell up and stop being played for fools.

  67. ryan May 18, 2011 at 2:50 pm -

Great night all round for fta tv! over 11 programs over 1m. Agt wins 25-54 demo, masterchef wins 18-49 and 16-39, looks like Agt is also like dancing with more older people watching.

  68. Mate May 18, 2011 at 1:49 pm -

@AAAdelaide, yes that was the shows highest views on ELEVEN.

I’m glad, now, lets push for that magic 500,000!

  69. AAAdelaide May 18, 2011 at 1:31 pm -

Was that Neighbours highest ratings since switching to Eleven? I’m a little surprised, the stories arn’t that great at the moment, and yet the ratings are up!? It will be interesting what will happen when they throw in a death, wedding or an unexplained pregancy!!

  70. Ronnie May 18, 2011 at 1:18 pm -

Nine third again in all numbers and worse in demos. Anyone taking responsibility? More importantly anyone doing something about it? Maybe accept you are the geriatric network and start marketing yourselves to aged care providers, pensioners insurers, that kind of thing. Who cares about the younger demos and disposable income. It’s overrated.

  71. steve May 18, 2011 at 1:11 pm -

    @salf

I’m moving away from the whole DWTS vs MC ratings discussion, it’s getting to the point where it’s like beating a dead horse and people’s points are getting lost in translation. So i’m done with that.

As for 7pm i disagree with you, it’s not constantly 4th. The numbers for it are all over the place sure. Some nights close to a million and other nights as lower than 700,000 so it does fluctuate and does, half the time beat Nine in that timeslot. Also, when you say 4th i presume you’re including ABC News which it didn’t think really mattered to advertisers anyway

@stephen, that’s not right. audience stability and reliability is very important to advertisers. but MC has nothing to worry about, atleast not yet. but i dont think you understood the post you are replying to, making a totally different point.

7pm is doing quite badly at the moment, constantly 4th in its timeslot and usually 3rd in all demos. can’t use the excuse “it’ll improve once daylight savings ends” and then “it’ll improve once MC starts”. Home and Away is killing it. Once the Block starts i think 7pm will be in trouble.

Compared to last week MC ratings were down yet Bondi Vet numbers increased. Go Figure.

MC was great last night. I think it’s a much better idea to have the judges pick the meal and not give the guest chef the recipe. Much more entertaining than last weeks episode.

David at Green Point, TEN showed The Guardian about four years ago, tanked horribly.

    Wow, incredible numbers for AGT!

@David (Green Point) – The Guardian was on Ten ages ago. I can’t remember if they broadcast all three series in their entirety.
