@MJR I didn’t see one piece of advertising for The Defenders… the only reason i knew it was on was because i was channel surfing after Angry Boys finished… but 500K isn’t too bad of a result for a 9.30pm program…

Hopefully TEN will bring forward The Defenders into an 8.30 timeslot.

  2. MJR June 2, 2011 at 12:23 pm -

Gee nine came 3rd 2 nights in a row.Bad start for the defenders on TEN
    Feel another dumping coming on

  3. Ronnie June 2, 2011 at 11:01 am -

Are these figures correct? Nine had a 16% share and Seven 30%? LOL funny.
How can this be allowed to continue? What do these numbers do to Nine’s revenue?

  4. steve June 1, 2011 at 11:50 pm -

Wasn’t the theory that AGT took away audience from MC? How did Both shows increase their ratings from last week?

I guess they both stole viewers from CH 9, anyone know when Nine release their financial reports?

  5. Rutzie June 1, 2011 at 9:05 pm -

@Geoff, Eastbound and Down pulled 111,000 viewers last night.

  6. Trix June 1, 2011 at 8:41 pm -

    @Jerome, I know … depressing, isn’t it?!

  7. TDJ June 1, 2011 at 3:30 pm -

@ Rutzie. Sea Patrol is suffering from Nines usual incompetence and tendency to shoot itself in the foot and then blame the program. When you tell people that you are cancelling the program, you will lose interest. I admit I have. More because I am sick of the greed driven morons that must be running the network. Basically if they are not getting a handout from the taxpayer they axe the program. There is no excuse for this as they will waste hundreds of millions of dollars on sport rights, but apparently can’t be bothered funding their own television programs. No doubt when the tax credits run out on RSO etc, they will be axed as well. So it is not Sea Patrol, it is the network. Interestingly I did notice that the “final season” has been changed to “new season”.

  8. Jerome June 1, 2011 at 3:00 pm -

So what will be the years top show? Rafters, Downton, Talent or something still to come? Could be close.

@Trix, given that ACA more than doubles 4 corners audience and TT more than triples on that night, I doubt they care.

  9. Donni June 1, 2011 at 2:54 pm -

Brisbane TEN 5pm news is really letting the side down with competition from Hot Seat/Deal

  10. Craig June 1, 2011 at 1:46 pm -

Nine is killing Sea Patrol and TEN took advantage knocking then to 3rd for the night by a decent margin.

Won’t be surprised if we get a programing update from Nine in the next few days.

  11. Ron June 1, 2011 at 1:33 pm -

What was the deal with Sea Patrol and Melbourne last night? Why are there seperate figures?

  12. Harry June 1, 2011 at 1:33 pm -

AGT is killing it.. but I prefer MC. NCIS finale was average IMO.

  13. JB June 1, 2011 at 1:30 pm -

i must be the only person who kept my word when I said I wouldn’t watch AGT anymore when they brought in Kyle Sandilands, and Brian McFadden.

And once again George Negus repeat in Adelaide gets bigger numbers in than at 6.30. That is strange that’s it only in Adelaide. But really Ten, get rid of repeat.

  14. Geoff June 1, 2011 at 1:12 pm -

    Hey Dave,

Any chance we could find out the figures for the debut episode of Eastbound & Down from 7mate last night?

  15. Jezza June 1, 2011 at 12:40 pm -

Jeez ch9 got blown out of the water last night. Outside of the news etc, the only consistent performer on 9 is the much maligned Eddie. Hot seat has beaten the Deal twice this week.

  16. Michael June 1, 2011 at 12:18 pm -

Wow, big numbers of AGT, almost cracking 2 million! I don’t watch but seems to be popular this year. Masterchef holding strong though, Nine completely out of the race last night. Parenthood slipped down a bit, but it did start at 10pm (well 10:10pm) so pretty good number.

  17. Trix June 1, 2011 at 11:31 am -

@DC, my thoughts exactly. Offspring has settled into a very strong second series and I’m just hoping it now receives the viewership it deserves.

Just on Monday’s Four Corners report, when investigative journalism results in front page news and questions being asked in parliament, it’s fulfilling exactly what it should be: exposing wrongs in our world that need to be addressed and made right. Producets of TT and ACA take note: that’s how you do it.

  18. mv June 1, 2011 at 11:13 am -

Totally agree with DC. I could not watch Offspring last season, but this season is much better, i’m really enjoying it.

  19. Kieran June 1, 2011 at 10:19 am -

    @jezza, thankyou
I will be sure to apply!

  20. MJR June 1, 2011 at 9:46 am -

Whats the go 11 with the office last night.it started and when returned after add break ,frasier ep was shown or was I missing something.

  21. Rutzie June 1, 2011 at 9:15 am -

Those numbers for Sea Patrol are horrific. If those figures continue Nine would be better off moving it to GEM. On the orher hand AGT is a runaway train at the minute. It could possibly pull 2.5million for the final.

  22. DC June 1, 2011 at 5:23 am -

Offspring is sooo much better this season than last by a Mile. Nina is so much more likeable now she isnt obsessed with that Dony Hany chacracter anymore and it makes the show a million time better without him. She’s a lot more controlled and assertive this season and its a welcome change. All the characters actually are much more likeable this season, Kat Stewarts character also. Well done to the writers for lifting their game this season I say!

  23. JB May 31, 2011 at 5:30 pm -

Had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting through 15 mins of Rescue crap while waiting for Footy Classified. Had 2 hours, dunno how it could go overtime. But what a terrible show, script was just awful, which translates into awful acting.
Can’t believe 9 renewed it. Rush is far better quality. And City Homicide is far better quality than both. Now which show got axed?

  24. steve May 31, 2011 at 4:59 pm -

Last night Nine News in Sydney had a caption under Tony Abbott that read ‘Former Opposition Leader’

Haha either that was a mistake (by a News service!) or the team at 9 are physic and can see into the future, if that’s the case i wonder how they didn’t see the many flops they would have this year.

RSO never interested me, the cast is too big and doesn’t allow itself to develop many different story lines. I don’t see Nine coming 2nd tonight with 2 eps of Sea Patrol : Dead in the water as it should be called.

  25. Harry May 31, 2011 at 4:16 pm -

Offspring was awesome last night – really enjoyed the episode. Hope to see its figures rise!

  26. A. May 31, 2011 at 3:53 pm -

    @ Craig

The F1 in HD in your area may be great but digital TV in my area is iffy. SD or HD on Channel 10 or 1 or any other. By the way when it decides to play up HD is worse than SD. So that old fashioned analogue can beat both of them on ironically a HD TV. I’ll admit different TVs mean that can be crap too. As Ten’s signal is the worst commercial signal for my area. Channel 31 or really 44 is the worst overall. As some days the digital is black. Ironically the analogue show up all the time unless they interrupt the transmission. It’s not great but it works. My point is sometimes it’s better to have an analogue option because it’s the only thing that works in some areas. Don’t you look forward to the switch of when people will have less access to different channels? I know I don’t.

  27. chk chk May 31, 2011 at 3:27 pm -

I would like to get that board game invented by Ian from Come Fly With Me last night and would like to give it to each member of the Immigration Dept!

  28. Ron May 31, 2011 at 3:15 pm -

@Tony Bee – I agree! It was the funniest ep in a long time!

  29. David @ Green Point May 31, 2011 at 2:56 pm -

No time for Big Bangs (or little ones, either) – amazed Come FWM has held onto its 8pm audience, but even more amazed only 170,000 homes/viewers have caught onto the fact that 9’s scissors are snipping about 8 minutes out of the 8pm screening (for ads & station promos of course, silly) and play the full 30 minutes episode on Go later the same evening!

Re Downton A, only six eps to go in series 1! (Trust the Brits).

Hawaii 50 is popcorn but enjoyable. Jonno, isn’t Claire Van Der Bloom (or whatever) another Aussie in the cast?

Dipped out on Amazing R cause it’s nowhere as good as The Mole was – all together now kiddies: “Bring back the Mole… Bring Back the Mole”!!!

  30. pete May 31, 2011 at 1:35 pm -

    Dear God

Please make the entire Channel 9 dissappear.
    Thanks

  31. Geoff May 31, 2011 at 1:25 pm -

@ Luke, I give 10 huge props for sticking with Hawaii 5-0 at the 8:30/9:00pm Sunday slot. It may’ve only rated 570,000 this week, but it didn’t start until after 9pm and had tough competition from the juggernaut that was Downton Abbey.

It may not get huge ratings, but has a loyal viewership like myself & Jonno and sticking with it for the rest of the season shows Ten cares abouts it’s audience, at least in this case.

  32. Craig May 31, 2011 at 12:51 pm -

The main reason more are watching the F1 on ONE is the better picture quality, Sunday I switched from TEN to ONE and the different is there for all to see.

RSO was going to have low ratings being a double eps, why did Nine do that? They should have run just one ep and I’m sure the ratings would have been higher. That aside I’m waiting for RUSH to return, RSO is just a bad copy.

Fantastic number for Big Bang Theory and Come Fly With Me, probably the only reason Nine didn’t slip to 3rd last night.

  33. Tony Bee May 31, 2011 at 12:44 pm -

The new ep of TBBT was an absolute classic last night! It had it all, including a smoking monkey and weird dancing. What’s not to love?

  34. jonno May 31, 2011 at 11:56 am -

Hey Luke, If you don’t like hawaii 5 O you have another 13 channels to watch. 600,000 people watch it. That is a lot. It is my No.1 show at the moment and has an Aussie starring in it. Give it a go, you might be surprised.

  35. Andrey May 31, 2011 at 10:28 am -

Home & Away ratings still going up. 1,196,000 up 70,000 on last Monday. Good job!

  36. Ronnie May 31, 2011 at 10:21 am -

The series return of RSO hammered by Offspring. I’ve heard on the grapevine that Nine turned down a series starring Asher Keddie to do more RSO! Another Michael Healy mistake.

  37. Rutzie May 31, 2011 at 10:02 am -

Even though that’s the 2 hour average for Rescue it’s still terrible figures with shocking demo numbers. Given it’s a 22 episode season perhaps Nine will burn it off with double episodes after seeing those figures.

  38. Jezza May 31, 2011 at 6:04 am -

I didn’t realise that New Rescue Special ops was starting again on ch9 last night. I watched it for a while. Oh dear the script was so predictable, it felt like Sea Patrol/Cops LAC rehashed.

  39. Charlie May 31, 2011 at 5:31 am -

My goodness! Some of the “ABC4kids” shows (on ABC2) are starting to crack the top 50 and yet not a single show from ABC3?

Attention fans of Reality TV – Keep an eye out for “Total Drama Island” next time ABC3 repeats it (which shouldn’t bee too far away, they play it a lot!) – It’s an animated sendup of reality shows and, after a slow start, it’s great! As much as I love having no commercials, that show would have been right at home on 10/11 after “The Simpsons” (in my opinion, once ABC rights expire, 10/11 should pick it up anyway as nobody watches ABC3 so it’ll be like a new show)

  40. Luke May 31, 2011 at 2:20 am -

Cancel Hawaii Five-0 10. How much lower does it need to go before you finally cancel it? Its been bordering the 600,000 mark for weeks and now its finally dropped below it… Hell knowing Ten, they’ll just let it run the rest of the season and then throw it behind NCIS or another big cop show next season- or pull a Blue Bloods and move it to Friday at 10:30pm and be shocked when it pulls in 200,000 and then they finally remove it from the schedule.

Seriously… 5-0 was never a huge hit here. Shocked it’s lasted as long as it did.

  41. Maev May 30, 2011 at 6:42 pm -

    @ opti…..If a channel pays a lot of money for a popular show….
It follows that they need a lot of advitising revenue….to recoup the outlay they made.

  42. Ann May 30, 2011 at 6:31 pm -

The Kennedy’s went well, great show

  43. Rick2 May 30, 2011 at 6:10 pm -

The unusual situation of F1 running at the same time on 10 and ONE shows a true combined audience of 497,000, which would put it just below The Mentalist in national numbers. Not bad! The Ch 10 F1 audience will continue to dwindle as ONE grows, but it’s normally on Ch10 much later so the smaller audience doesn’t matter as much as it might have at 10pm last night. Thing that annoying me during both qualifying Sat and the race last night was the BBC commentators talking through replays and slo mo’s that we weren’t seeing. It happened quite a few times. Can we please get the right feed, 10 & ONE?

  44. steven guy May 30, 2011 at 5:56 pm -

Whilst I loved Downton Abbey last night I think The Tudors hidden away on ABC2 on friday nights is much better !

  45. opti May 30, 2011 at 5:13 pm -

agree with michael – the number/frequency of ads on 7 is rediculous

  46. David Knox May 30, 2011 at 4:31 pm -

DA was scheduled in the EPG to start at 8:35 and started at 8:36. I suspect promos and print guides had 8:30.

  47. Maev May 30, 2011 at 4:13 pm -

    Craig says:
    May 30, 2011 at 11:35 am….
I always watch F1 on channel ONE….did not even check if it was on TEN….
And not surprised Downton ran over….they had to fit All those ads in….

  48. steve May 30, 2011 at 3:57 pm -

I didn’t watch DA last night, i am waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon but can anyone confirm if it did actually start at 8.30??

Nine News has to have the most inconsistent viewers of anything else on television.

MC is really hitting it’s stride, last night was brilliant. Although for the first few weeks it’s as if they should rename the show Master Caterer with all the huge challenges and mass quantities of food they cook up. Looking forward to next few weeks as the teams get smaller and more technique is displayed.

  49. Kenny May 30, 2011 at 3:44 pm -

    @DansDans
    1 Downton Abbey Seven
    2 Nine News
    3 Seven News
    4 Masterchef Australia Ten
So “peoplpe” just watch shows because they’re on 7?
I guess it must be the dogs and cats watching Masterchef, if one agrees with your claim?

  50. davis May 30, 2011 at 2:58 pm -

@michael, indeed you can buy the Bluray of Downton Abbey s1 from Amazon.co.uk with free delivery for £9.39 (once VAT is removed at checkout). That’s $14.50. Cheap as chips.

  51. Moanique in Brisbane May 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm -

@ DanDans, I for one don’t watch shows just because they’re on Seven. Seven just has the better shows. Amazes me how people like you think you can sum up why the rest of us are watching shows on certain networks.

  52. Jake May 30, 2011 at 2:48 pm -

And go Castle, even starting after 10pm and being a repeat it pulls that figure!

  53. Jarred May 30, 2011 at 1:46 pm -

    @ CK,
Why can’t they show it live, was the live button broken. They showed it live last week when the crows were playing interstate at 1.10pm EST, then they played the victorian match on delay afterwards leading into the news. Even if they had to delay the Adelaide match by 30 mins like they usually do when it is a home game, but almost 4 hours delay is just ridiculous.

  54. Sam May 30, 2011 at 1:09 pm -

Damn I missed Downton Abbey I hope with these numbers we get an encore on one of the channel 7 channels.

  55. CK May 30, 2011 at 1:06 pm -

    @Jarred
Ch7 couldn’t show the adelaide game live in adelaide -that’s why it was on such a delay

  56. PD May 30, 2011 at 12:45 pm -

@DansDans – You make an excellent point. I am completely unable to locate shows that receive good reviews on other networks. And if something airs on Channel 7 it always rates 1.8 million, just like Parenthood does, or No Ordinary Family does, or The Amazing Race Australia does….

Face it, 7 ran a stellar advertising campaign for a show that received universal praise from critics. That’s why it rated 1.8 million viewers, not because of so called mindless zombies.

To think that people only tune in to a TV show because it’s on Channel 7 is daft. Downton Abbey would have rated at least 1.2 million if it had been on the ABC. The show they’re selling, and the way they sell it is what gets viewers, not just the network they sell it on.

  57. catherine May 30, 2011 at 12:36 pm -

I watched Downtown Abbey. Im not usually into english drama but I really enjoyed. Its interesting to see how people lived in that era and how people were treated. I will be tuning in next week.

MC was interesting last night. It was nice to see them do a challenge on a sunday night and not just the normal mystery box. It was a nice prize to.

  58. JB May 30, 2011 at 12:10 pm -

lol Nine’s early morning news had a still pic of a water spout in the ocean with their ‘See it first only on Nine News’ thing splashed across the middle of it. Seven’s morning news had a nice close up video footage of it looked like taken from a helicopter.

  59. michael May 30, 2011 at 12:09 pm -

While it was an extremely enjoyable show, Channel 7 treats it’s viewers a total lack of respect with the amount of ads and pop-ups it showed during the final hour of Downton Abbey…at one point there was an ad break every 6 1/2 minutes…. followed by 3 consecutive pop-ups in the first 3 minutes of the show being back on…

We got it… AGT is on Tuesday at 7.30. We got it the first time you told us……
And whats that? TAR is on at 830 Mondays? You don’t say……

From this week, i find other ways of watching DA….

  60. DansDans May 30, 2011 at 11:43 am -

@PD – if such a “genuinely good” show was on TEN or SBS, would you or the other mindless zombie masses had watched it…?

    Yeah.. didnt think so.

@smiley_mick – TEN only had 166K viewers watching their live broadcast vs 333K on ONE – you’re right, people know to switch to ONE for the F1, and for those without digital they could have waited until the late replay on TEN – but for only 166K viewers to be watching a program at 10pm on a primary channel on sunday night is far too low – TEN should have had something else on instead.
Ill be glad when the digital switch over occurs and these stupid sports double ups disappear off TEN

  61. A. May 30, 2011 at 11:41 am -

I’ll admit I didn’t like the promos of Downton Abbey. I didn’t hate them either. Although they did I guess say it was on. But people here and on overseas sites said it was worth seeing. Including American. So I decided to check it out. And they were right. I’m glad it rated well. I hope Nine pays attention to it when it comes to Sherlock. Although please don’t cause a clash with Downton Abbey. It would probably be a disaster then instead of something that might pay off in ratings. However congratulations Seven. I guess next week we’ll get to see how many sticks around or if they gain viewers. Assuming some might have recorded it. And decide to watch it live. Although some may have decided it just wasn’t for them.

  62. Craig May 30, 2011 at 11:35 am -

Last nights F1 was a rare occasion that the race is live on both ONE and TEN, usually there is anything from 30 mins to hours of delay between them, that TEN usually picks up the coverage with them still on the grid but last night with Hawaii 5-0 they caught the race just before the start on the warm up lap.

It is weird that ONE would get more F1 viewers than TEN, maybe those viewers were over on ch7 watching Downton Addby, which ran late as always. Yes I know it was 90 mins but it ended about 10:10pm.

  63. smiley_mick May 30, 2011 at 11:12 am -

@DansDans – OneHD is the place Network Ten want people to watch their sport, but they acknowledge that not everyone has made the shift to digital yet and are making it available to those people on Channel Ten.

  64. Michael Kezza May 30, 2011 at 10:56 am -

Brisbane people clearly don’t like Heather Foord. She is really struggling in the ratings at a time when Andrew and Melissa and regularly winning Weekdays. Something needs to happen. Maybe make it Bruce and Heather for the Weekend news. That would be brilliant and defs display experience.

  65. Jarred May 30, 2011 at 10:36 am -

Not sure about other states but in Adelaide, Seven news was in the half time break of a 4 hour delayed Crows (AFL) match so it wasn’t a full half hour regular 6pm news service. Many viewers would’ve resorted to Nine for their news in Adelaide. Which begs the question, why on earth did seven not show the Adelaide Crows match live and the collingwood v west coast match on delay leading into their news which woud’ve boosted their overall numbers for footy and news, silly silly seven?????

Umm David, would you be able to confirm that Nine News really got 220k? The only reason I can think why and it is probably right, is that the Footy was on Seven from 4 – 7. A 4 hour delay of the Crows Brisbane match in which the Crows got thrashed. So yeah I’m guessing I just answered my own question lol.

@PD…well it wouldn’t have been watched if it wasn’t on.

@ DandDans @ Kieran…if neither of you already work for the ch9 programming dept, you both need to apply as judging from your comments, you both seem well suited to the role

  69. PD May 30, 2011 at 10:21 am -

@DansDans – yes, because the very interesting and genuinely good Downton Abbey was definitely only watched because it was on.

There is a coding error with In Their Footsteps last night. It was a new episode.

That must be the highest rating 9 news Sydney has had in a long time

  72. Jezza May 30, 2011 at 10:09 am -

Downton Abbey = deserved blockbuster…well done ITV for making it

  73. David @ Green Point May 30, 2011 at 10:08 am -

I mentioned last week 9’s The Guardian (Simon Baker circa 2000) screening at 11.30 Sunday nights.

Recorded and watched last weeks ep – verdict?

    Ho hum.

I’ve removed the timer setting for this one already.

  74. PD May 30, 2011 at 10:04 am -

My only response reading those numbers for Downton Abbey: dammmmnnn that’s good.

  75. JB May 30, 2011 at 10:03 am -

Seven really know how to promote a show, unlike Nine. Thought Downton Abbey would do well, but not that well. Very good numbers.

Why on earth is Seven playing repeats of Castle?? Dunno what episode they’re up to but surely there can’t be that many left, and the finale is friggin incredible.

  76. Bill May 30, 2011 at 10:03 am -

I don’t think In Their Footsteps was a encore.

  77. PT Ryan May 30, 2011 at 9:59 am -

I love that Timmy Time did better than both The Bolt Report And Insiders.

  78. DansDans May 30, 2011 at 9:58 am -

oh and whose Stupid idea was it to put the F1 on both TEN and ONE – One had double the viewers than TEN did…. stupid, stupid Ch 10. Is this the first time a digital channel has beaten its own primary channel in a timeslot? (ie ONE/11 beating 10, 7Two/mate beating 7 or GO/GEM beating 9)

  79. DansDans May 30, 2011 at 9:56 am -

WTF? Downton Abbey? Ch7 is the new Ch9 – peoplpe just watch the shows because they are on that channel, not because they are interesting/good

  80. Kieran May 30, 2011 at 9:49 am -

Wow. I didn’t see That figure coming for Downtown Abbey!
