When Justin meets Casey

A Current Affair has backstage footage of Justin Bieber meeting bullied schoolboy Casey Heynes.

A Current Affair tonight has backstage footage of Justin Bieber meeting Casey Heynes, the schoolboy made famous in a YouTube “bully boy” clip in March.

Bieber, who had seen the viral video, yesterday tweeted, “2nite we tracked down Casey and his family and flew him to the show. Thank you Casey. #stopbullying.”

The family were treated to front-row seats and Bieber even invited Heynes to join him on stage to introduce one of his songs.

  1. To those who say that Casey Heynes should not have fought back, how the hell should he have defended himself? I abhor violence as much as anyone but sometimes enough is enough.

  2. Everyone has the right to stand up to bullying, but when it is praised for Casey doing so and Justin Bieber (some kid the young ones listen too) telling the world how brave Casey was, disgusts me. The whole world has seen a young boy kicking the hell out of another human being, and telling him how right he was in doing so. What message does that send. What he’s not capable of just pushing him over, or even punching him on the nose. Is this the way our young people have learnt to fight. Other people are charged with this kind of behaviour, why not him.? Now they are all going to go around and just start kicking people like you wouldn’t even kick a dog.

I am in no way condoning what the initial bully did, but I find it of great concern that someone should receive such accolades for physically hurting someone. Casey should consider himself lucky that his victim didn’t suffer permanent or major damage. Encouraging people to stand up for themselves is all well and good but when physical violence is applauded I wonder what the next bullying victim will use, maybe a knife or a gun or possibly the body slam will result in a broken arm, leg or worse. Am I the only one who sees it this way?

    1. No, you’re not.

With Bieber’s endorsement it does raise questions about telling kids to fight back. But then we also have an entire nation that is celebrating the death of a terrorist, rather than the arrest and trial of a terrorist. I wasn’t there so I’m not going to pass any judgement on the outcome, so much as feel uncomfortable with the way the US is partying. Maybe it’s ingrained in their culture. The sheriff always got his man after all. In the case of Casey it’s a good thing he is meeting a personal hero, and it’s good Bieber is saying “bullying is bad” but there was also some concerning glorification of how he got payback.

Noted, but unless you’re a 12yo girl you’re not supposed to like Bieber.
Next you’ll be pointing out plot inconsistencies in ‘Gilligan’s Island’.
