Gallery: Farewell Brothers & Sisters

No more family dinners or a sobbing Sally Field. A family at the centre of America's war in Afghanistan, divorce, gay marriage and US politics, will tug at your heartstrings no more.

No more family dinners, no more long lunches and red wine, no more garden parties, hospital vigils or interrupted telephone conversations -and especially no more tears for Sally Field.

Put away the Kleenex, Brothers and Sisters will tug at your heartstrings no more. The final episode airs on Seven tonight.

The show was unapologetic, fragile melodrama, with the affluent Walker clan’s lives and loves held together by Nora Walker (Field) as a mother coming to terms with the double life of her deceased husband (Tom Skerritt) and the mess he left behind. Family business Ojai Foods became a battlefield with his mistress Holly Harper (Patricia Wettig), weaved through other storylines involving America’s war in Afghanistan, divorce, gay marriage, substance abuse and US politics.

But it will be best remembered for its strong ensemble cast, including Rachel Griffiths, Calista Flockhart, Matthew Rhys, Ron Rifkin and Rob Lowe plus guest stars including Ken Olin, Danny Glover, Marion Ross, Nigel Havers, Richard Chamberlain and Beau Bridges.

  1. Well im going to miss the walker family dinners, there 5 way phone conversations and there dramas. But its nice to see it ended with a wedding and finally we get to Sarah’s children to. Cooper is one of the cutest kids on tv. Im glad they bought Tommy back.

I cant believe they made Kitty pregnant. It would have been nice for Seth to tell her he wanted the baby but I guess by the way he was with her at the end he accepted it.

Season 4 was the best season apart from Rob Lowe dying but farwell Walkers and I will miss you.

  2. @stevieg – reminds me of how they treated Lost and showing the end credits (which had meaning) in a box while they ran promos for other shows.

I never really go into the show but I guess there are always the DVDs and Pay TV.

  3. Damn Channel seven for ending the final episode so ubruptly. Would it have killed them to show the end credits or some indication that it had ended? They did the same for Sister Act the other week and the Mediteranian doco last Sat. I can’t stand their disrespectful tactics.

  4. Absolutely loved this series!
I do admit that the final season lost it’s touch, but for over 5 years, the season has brought me tears, laughter and joy. Cant wait to see what Sally Field does next!

Will be missed, and will be interesting to see what Seven does to fill the Monday 9:30 slot, as this show has been a consistent silent performer for them for 5 years straight!

  5. I liked the initial hook of this series with its large family as it reminded me of our own get-togethers with several conversations happening at once. Topics up for discussion would always centre on family members and their indiscretions, politics and religion. But then someone dropped the ball with regards to writing as it fell into that melodramatic pulp that Americans so dearly love. I understand actors do like to be challenged in their craft but for once I wish a series would challenge their viewers by occasionally killing off leading characters especially if faced with something like cancer, drug addiction etc. In real life people don’t always have a happy ending.

  6. I am 19 years old, and from start to finish I have absolutely adored every aspect of this series!
I am absolutely apalled at the fact that ABC would be so inconsiderate to loyal fans of the show, who would deliberately dedicate their time and actually enjoy watching some thing on television that for once had meaning. I know for a fact, that all viewers and dedicated fans out there are able to relate to every story which was featured within the series. As mentioned in previous feedback, brothers an sisters is a family show which many would sit around the television with members of their own family.
my mother and I have never been very close, and for the last 5 years, at the time of viewing for each and every episode we were given a chance to have our bonding sessions. seems slightly ridiculous.. Over a television show I know, but that is to just one extent of how many hearts this series has captured.

I am truly disappointed that the show has now ended. The last episode was viewed tonight (Australian television) and it completely brought me to tears. Unbelievably thrilled at the happiness seen around the family at Sara and lucs wedding, and noras voice-over gave the episode a complete golden touch.
yet, a beginning to so many new amazing stories and ongoing memories of previous ones, has been completely swept from underneath our feet.
Please bring back Brothers and Sisters.

  7. Can’t believe it ended like that. It ended on a great note but so many stories could have been wrapped up in a final season. Not happy at all with ABC!

  8. I feel the quality of the series declined, the first season (led by Greg Berlanti) was soo strong, that after he left the show struggled- especially this season, yet iam still sad to say goodbye

  9. Definatly had a great run, no one can say five seasons isn’t a good effort. Final episode ends on a great note as well… will be missed.
