Meet the Press: June 26

Julia Gillard will be special guest Sunday as she marks her first year as Prime Minister.

Julia Gillard will be special guest on TEN’s Meet the Press this Sunday, talking to host Paul Bongiorno and the panel as she marks her first year as Prime Minister.

Guess her minders didn’t make her available to The Bolt Report.

A year ago tomorrow Julia Gillard wrested the prime-ministerial crown from Kevin Rudd, and since then, it’s been a turbulent 12 months, with the PM slumping in the polls and the former Labor leader rising. The Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, said in parliament today the government had gone from bad to worse, and asked whether the political assassination of a prime minister had been worth it.

The Prime Minister has also been under fire for the planned asylum seeker deal with Malaysia and the ban on livestock exports to Indonesia after the Four Corners expose of the treatment of Australian cattle in some abattoirs.

But Julia Gillard has been fighting back, pushing a price on carbon Tony Abbott has described as a “great big next tax,” and today she announced the rollout of the $35.9 billion national broadband network, with the government, Telstra and NBN Co all signing agreements for the scheme. Optus also agreed to use NBN’s fibre network to deliver its services.

The PM will be interviewed by the veteran political journalist and host of Meet the Press, Paul Bongiorno, and the panel, Malcolm Farr, the national political editor of news.com.au, and Jessica Irvine, the economics writer for the Sydney Morning Herald.

It airs 10.30am Sunay morning on TEN.

  1. Don’t forget that Meet The Press gets an afternoon timeslot on the Southern Cross Ten & Ten Regional stations. But sometimes it’s a bit of a moving target.
