Report: TEN redundancies on the way

TEN staff in news, sales, operations and programming will be be handed redundancy notices next week.

TEN staff in news, sales, operations and programming will be be handed redundancy notices next week, following a major strategic review ordered by interim CEO Lachlan Murdoch.

More than 100 jobs are expected to go, including many of the journalists recruited for the network’s overhaul of News under former boss Grant Blackley.

Staff at outdoor advertising division Eye Corp will also be made redundant.

The changes led to News Director Jim Carroll resigning after 10 years, amid reports he wasn’t prepared to sack dozens of journalists who were only just hired.

The Australian today reports another TEN executive, Sydney station manager and head of broadcast control, Darren Farnham, has also resigned.

The network, which has already dropped its local 6:30 news bulletins, is also set to abandon its 6pm weekend bulletin.

The redundancies come at a time when TEN saves costs by not pursuing AFL broadcasts.

Chief programming officer David Mott tells the Australian Financial Review, “the money we save by not having AFL will be redeployed across our entire schedule, not just Saturdays.”

A spokeswoman said the strategic cost review was still underway, but would not comment on the redundancies.

  1. Channel 10 are axing the wrong programs….1st program to go should be that horrid Neigh-bores…..hardly watched in this country it should be axed and the money saved would be enormous. Leave Sandra Sully alone….she’s the only decent personality at Channel 10!!!!!

  2. Goo idea to drop the weekend 6pm news, no need for it with the 5pm news having just aired.
I like that they have dropped AFL, it means programming consistancy accross all states on saturday nights. Becuase of AFL, Adelaide never got episodes of Monk after TENHD finished season 6 which it played double episodes of to speed through it.

  3. @wei ting – Ah you camouflage is tearing.
Explains your pitch of Sky to run AN and attack on AN recently.
Sales are “parasites”? Really. If there were no sales people there would be no commercial television.
TIN (sic)? TEN would have the least dumb-downed news. You compared TEN News & George to Nine & ACA and Seven & TT?

  4. Steve – what makes me say that is that I watched the same story 4-6 weeks ago on Ten News Sydney – same hacker, same information, same reporter. Same everything.
