Tracy celebrates 30 years with Nine

Yesterday Tracy Grimshaw was surprised on air with flowers, marking her 30th anniversary with Channel Nine.

Yesterday Tracy Grimshaw celebrated 30 years with the Nine Network, surprised with a boquet of flowers at the end of A Current Affair.

She joined Nine in 1981, following an early journalism job in suburban newspapers. As a National Nine News reporter, Grimshaw did 13 years on the road, before hosting Daybreak News, Animal Hospital and ten years on the Today show. There was even a brief stint co-hosting Midday between Derryn Hinch and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

Nine Network managing director, Jeff Browne paid tribute to Grimshaw who has gone on to win a Walkley Award.

“I want to congratulate Tracy on 30 years at the top of the TV game,” he told TV Tonight.

“She’s an outstanding interviewing and television host and has won the respect of her peers and the admiration of the viewers over a long period of time.

“I’ve known Tracy for a lot longer than 30 years, having attended Watsonia High School and it’s a great thrill for to me celebrate her 30 years at Channel Nine.”

  1. Sadly this is an indication of the parlous state of television journalism on the commercial networks.

At her best Tracy is a mediocre middle-of-the-road nobody … at her worst … well I’ll leave that up to others.

  2. Tracy, the moment you sold out to do trashy aca is when All your credibility went down the drain. Sure its a well paying job but dont expect people to think your a credible “journalist”. If you have any integrity you must be in a difficult position knowing your thought of as a joke by anyone that respects what a journalist is.

  3. Tracy is a very talented women and it is such a shame to see such talent wasted on sh*t like ACA if i had my way both TT and ACA would be off the air or would be a responsable current affairs show like 6:30pm congratulations on 30 years Tracy but your talent is tragically wasted on ACA

  4. She is very lucky to survive at ch9 for so long and deserves credit for that.

But looking at her career….well its hardly a glittering one, most of it seems dumbed down trashy presenting

  5. Sadly, there are many people in TV who equate the biggest pay with the most important jobs. Once they have the money and position, they at the mercy of those who demand them to do as they are told or risk all.

Television used to be about making television.. now it’s only about making money.

  6. I’m another steve

Was there not a place at 60 minutes for her or something? Surely she can’t stand going into work everyday presenting ‘reports’ on energy bills, bargain grocery shopping, over weight pets ect

Plus the fact her show is beaten by TT every single night for the past few years. Come on Tracey

  7. Congratulations Tracy. A remarkable achievement indeed. I loved the bit where Ita Buttrose was sitting behind the ACA desk to introduce Tracy’s 30 year celebration package. Would love to see Ita as the relief host of ACA, or maybe another show.

  8. One of the worst dressed presenters on television!!

Have nothing against a full figured woman, but the choice of cloths she wears do nothing for her.
Outfits are either way to loose and sloppy or way to tight!
I maybe sounding like a bitch, but she works in a visual medium where presentation counts..

David could I suggest you do a poll on best and worst dressed presenters?

  9. I don’t understand what it is with some people (ie: @Peter Young)… why the need to attack Tracy, one of the quality people on TV ???. Sure ACA is perhaps not the best vehicle for her talent but lets focus on her and give credit for a great career and the really good things she has accomplished.

  10. @Peter Young – agreed.
Like Ray Martin before her, she sold her credibility to be come Queen of the Bogans decades ago. I hope money and fame has bought her happiness because she surely can’t feel any genuine professional pride in her work.

And sorry Peter , haven’t watched her for years so I can’t nominate her trashiest story. I imagine there are many to choose from.

  11. My first instinct is to editorialise on how Ms Grimshaw has descended, rather than ascended or evolved as a journalist, but 30 years, especially with one network is some achievement, and her decade at Today she really honed her skill as a warm and extremely able presenter, interviewer and personality. But yeah the ACA years, Walkley notwithstanding, will not be her finest. I guess the good life is too addictive to rebel against the dodgy material she continues to introduce.

  12. I agree with Peter- Tracy is a great interviewer but the topics she is given on ACA must be an embassament for her (at least i hope it is!). She is better than this show and it’s a pity Channel 9 has followed Today Tonight down this trashy past. Congrat though Tracy- in the TV industry 30 years is a miracle.

  13. 30 years at 9 but stopped being a serious journo years ago. Perhaps TV Tonight readers would like to nominate her trashiest story in recent year? My nomination is the interview she did with some family members of the girl who was given the lie detector test on the Kyle and Jacki O show.
