is that a new record for GO!?? and for the multi channels??

  2. DansDans June 26, 2011 at 6:07 pm -

huge numbers for the AFL on saturday night because it was only on TEN and not ONE…. sad news that TEN is not going to do AFL anymore, and even sadder they’ve apparently ditched HD AFL for the rest of the year…

  3. Ryano June 26, 2011 at 2:55 pm -

Lachlan Murdoch is insane to drop AFL out of the schedule. Ten will fall to 4th on Saturday’s from next year.

  4. Moanique in Brisbane June 26, 2011 at 2:43 pm -

@ Eye Spy, It must be nice up there in your little tower looking down on the audience of Angry Boys and throwing generalisations around. Just because you don’t like the show, doesn’t mean you are correct in your analysis of who is watching it and what they are understanding. I am convinced you don’t understand it, or have a very limited sense of humor.

  5. Secret Squïrrel June 26, 2011 at 1:47 pm -

Very impressive figure for Go! I think that’s the diff between showing a movie from within the last few years versus (say) ten year-old Hugh Grant films.

Perhaps Nine should reposition Go! instead of GEM as the movie channel? Lately they’ve been showing more movies on Go! than GEM anyway.

  6. Joe June 26, 2011 at 1:18 pm -

Good ratings for the footy last night. 100k watching in Sydney is very good.

  7. Trev June 26, 2011 at 1:16 pm -

    Ooops!!! Kieran’s right, I can’t add up.

  8. Trev June 26, 2011 at 1:10 pm -

    @ David,

It looks as though the totals for 9 and 7 should be reversed.
ie. 9 should be 29.9 and 7 should be 24.6.

  9. Kieran June 26, 2011 at 12:44 pm -

David, I think that with 10.0% for Go!, Nine won Saturday with 29.3%, not Seven

  10. David Knox June 26, 2011 at 12:29 pm -

10.0% share for GO! on Saturday. We have a new record, folks.

  11. NJK June 26, 2011 at 9:57 am -

@ those talking about the Angry Boys and whether it’s the biggest flop for 2011 – Fair enough that Ben Elton’s show rated much worse, relatively speaking, but I don’t think there was as much expectation, positive prior coverage and anticipation for his show. When you looked at it beforehand, it was a good chance of being a flop – it was on 9, it was a very risky formula etc etc. Whereas Angry Boys had Everything going for it before it aired and it has failed to deliver on audience, quality and laughs.
It’s not that I don’t understand what Lilley is trying to produce, I just find it to be the absolute basest of “humour” and totally unclever.

  12. tmorgan96 June 26, 2011 at 8:33 am -

@Brad Nine is not that far behind Seven between 6 and 7pm. Only a few hundred thousand.
Nine needs to relaunch their news and entertainment branding. The stuff they have now looks cheap and paparazziiy (and Seven News now looks even worse). Maybe with a slick, smart new look Nine will be able to appeal to more people.

  13. Frankie June 26, 2011 at 3:26 am -

@Kenny, Masterclass is a cooking show, the other 5 nights Masterchef is a reality show with precious little cooking actually shown. Not many cooking shows make it to prime time. I see them as two differnt genres.

  14. Ryano June 26, 2011 at 12:49 am -

David Leckie might want to seriously think about playing Friday night football Live in Perth from 5.30-8.30pm local on 7Mate from now on.
FNF used to get well over 100K in Perth at 8.30 but as the years have gone by 7 has bled badly with the 3 hour delay.
    Similar trend for Adelaide.
We are starting to see a pattern of very low figures outside of Melbourne these days for FNF on Seven.

  15. Kieran June 26, 2011 at 12:19 am -

The Block might just be Nine’s savior!

  16. David @ Green Point June 25, 2011 at 10:41 pm -

    @ A:

Star Trek rated second star to the right, then straight on til morning…

  17. Michael June 25, 2011 at 9:38 pm -

@ Dave, AFL is scheduled on 7mate for Friday July 1 at 7:30pm and Friday July 8 at 8:30pm so it seems like it’s permanent. Also, interestingly, on Sunday July 3 while Seven is playing the Brisbane v Port Adelaide game (1pm start), they’ll be showing Collingwood v Hawthorn on 7mate (2pm start) – these are Brisbane times. Great news for AFL fans in NSW and QLD.

  20. A. June 25, 2011 at 4:48 pm -

Thank you very much David. I’m glad they’re over 100,000. :)

  21. billy c June 25, 2011 at 3:40 pm -

In defense of Angry Boys from a purely ratings perspective the ABC won the timeslot from 9.00 to 10.00 for 16-39 age group on Wednesday. They would probably argue that they are reaching a younger than usual audience. I know it’s lost a huge proportion of its audience and I’m not interested in it but for that Age group they are beating every other station for an hour and that’s pretty impressive for a network that usually gets an older audience.

  22. David Knox June 25, 2011 at 2:49 pm -

Dave: AFL was 21,000 in each city.
A: Star Trek Next Gen was 113,00. It was 119,000 last week so it will probably be similar next week. Thanks.

  23. Dave June 25, 2011 at 2:39 pm -

David, are you able to provide us with the ratings for the live Friday night AFL last night in Sydney and Brisbane on 7mate? Also do you know if 7mate will continue showing live AFL on Friday nights in Sydney and Brisbane? Was great to finally see live footy in Sydney last night despite the terrible result for the Bombers.

  24. A. June 25, 2011 at 2:14 pm -

Does anyone know how Star Trek Next Gen rated? Please share it here.

  25. Brad June 25, 2011 at 12:52 pm -

@tmorgan Nine cannot consistently win until the news and ACA beat 7.

  26. Kenny June 25, 2011 at 11:36 am -

Hasn’t TEN caught on yet? The Friday night “Masterclass” is not cutting it. 1.5m and #1 (or close #1 on Tue agaist AGT).

  27. tmorgan96 June 25, 2011 at 8:27 am -

Looking at the ratings for Nine over the week so far:
    a) Nine has come third on 2 nights by about a 1-2% margin
    b) Nine has won Monday/Thurs by a 1-2 % margin- TEN came third.
    c) Seven destroyed the competition on Sunday but Nine was still able to beat TEN.
In other words, yes Nine is losing out to TEN but its still holding its head above water. And with the Block consistantly rating 1mil+, a critically acclaimed Uderbelly series coming, and a show by Jamie Durie which actually looks quite good, Nine could actually win the second half of this year.

  28. Eye Spy June 24, 2011 at 11:01 pm -

    @ Goonies.
The massive drop in ratings for Angry Boys says it all. Regular ABC viewers are pretty discerning about what they watch and can recognise a crock of s..t from quality TV. That explains the numbers.
Discernment is obviously something you lack. Have a nice day!

  29. MuchoTB June 24, 2011 at 8:19 pm -

HIMYM repeats getting less than 500k in a 7:30/8pm timeslot…

I think season 4 and 5 were the show’s low points…time to try something else Seven. Do they still have the rights to Kyle XY? I know its four years old now but it had a good run of 43 episodes and the first two seasons were quality productions…if they’re showing MTV’s Teen Wolf and No Ordinary Family, it doesn’t seem like they’re hesitant to try out sci-fi/fantasy programming.

If they’re not willing to take that risk, there’s always factuals…*barf*

  30. Trix June 24, 2011 at 8:13 pm -

@JB I agree, GBTWYCF has had cross-network coverage on a scale I haven’t seen before for any other documentary series. It seems to have been a catalyst for enormous reaction and discussion and here’s hoping it has some impact on shifting our government and opposition’s policies on refugees and immigration.

  31. JB June 24, 2011 at 7:33 pm -

The publicity and promotion for GBTWYCF has been odd. Seven, Nine, Ten and ABC have all featured it in news, discussions etc. Never seen a show get so much discussion on all networks.
But well done to the SBS. Phenomenal series and every Australian should see it just to get a bit of perspective.

  32. Trix June 24, 2011 at 6:08 pm -

@Maev, don’t get him started! Tom raved on about this last week!

  33. Maev June 24, 2011 at 5:16 pm -

    @ tom…..Why?!?!?
And no….not all of us are ‘fanatics’

  34. Maev June 24, 2011 at 5:12 pm -

GBTWYCF is listed on ch.32 Thurs/Frid.Sat at 9,30PM

  35. Goonies June 24, 2011 at 5:07 pm -

Way to make a generalisation there @ Eye Spy. I am not a bogan by any stretch thanks very much and I enjoy Angry Boys.

And guess what – I even understand satire, caricature and parody!!

By all means come on here and tell us that you personally do not like the show but don’t make out that people who do are somehow lesser than you. You would have to be a pretty perfect individual to be able to thriow stones without expecting some back. Are you that perfect?

  36. opti June 24, 2011 at 4:31 pm -

    agree with tmorgan96

  37. catherine June 24, 2011 at 4:18 pm -

GBTWYCF was really fascinating last night. Meeting the peoples families then visitng Congo, and Iraq. Seeing those little children with nothing but yet they are still smiling and dancing just breaks my heart because they deserve better. Im glad some of them have changed there views. Tuesdays show will be interesting.

This sort of stuff should be shown in schools in either history or english. I reckon the students would learn so much about the world.

  38. David @ Green Point June 24, 2011 at 3:03 pm -

Lilley was a fresh and vibrant creative talent in his first two series.

Just a shame he’s opted to bad language and pretty uninspiring new characters in Angry Boys.

We watched for 1.5 weeks – and moved on.

Larry Laeioung’s (whatever) show is by far superior. Shame it’s ratings are being reduced by the show it follows.

  39. Eye Spy June 24, 2011 at 2:28 pm -

Angry Boys is nothing but manna for bogans who would be the only people left watching this trash. They wouldn’t know quality satire, caricature or parody, call it what you will even if they knew the understanding of those words.
Apparently this will be shown overseas and only go to strengthen the’ ugly Australian’ image which we thought was dead. Perceptions are everything folks.
Also in answer to the suggestion that if the show was so bad it would have been dropped by now…the ABC doesn’t drop shows (unlike the commercials) however poorly they are doing.

  40. tmorgan96 June 24, 2011 at 2:10 pm -

Whoever’s saying the Block is a flop isn’t reading the ratings. 1 million+ for 4 days straght and it seems to be doing well for Nine.

  41. Goonies June 24, 2011 at 1:33 pm -

I’d would consider a ‘flop’ something that got taken off air.

If it is still on air it may not be to your specific tastes, or a major success but I don’t consider it a flop.

Well done to SBS for a great series and congrats in particular to Raye & Raquel for (seemingly) changing their beliefs and turning over a new leaf in their lives, someone in Raquels position will find it especially hard – it will be interesting to watch next Tuesday to see how she went.

  42. Davo June 24, 2011 at 12:47 pm -

Love Nine’s new catch up channel called WIN. On WIN ACA finishes at 7.30 so The Block and rest of the night are delayed 30mins. We get NINE and WIN on the Sunshine Coast so this works well.

  43. tom June 24, 2011 at 12:43 pm -

    Geez!!
Sydney Viewers for the NRL Footy show is Terrible, cmon Sydney start watching more NRL Shows like what Melbourne do. There favourite show is the AFL Footy Show we should be following their footsteps!!! I thought Sydney were fanatic like Melbourne but for NRL!

  44. Moanique in Brisbane June 24, 2011 at 12:13 pm -

Angry Boys is hardly a flop, 600k + for ABC is far from a flop. When it comes out on DVD, sales will be huge, just as they were for Summer Heights High. A lot of people don’t understand the humor of Angry Boys, but that’s their loss.

  45. Michael June 24, 2011 at 11:52 am -

See Nine, a bit of variety paid off last night. By the looks of it, documentaries are definitely working for Nine on Thursdays, catched a bit of last night’s doco before The Footy Show and it was quite good. Viewers want a bit of variety. Let’s try, for example, Mike & Molly for more than one week and ratings might pick up for the show.

HIMYM repeats aren’t doing Seven any favours, and they’ve scheduled it for Tuesdays at 10pm as well in place of Parenthood. But then again Seven is doing pretty well in the ratings so probably aren’t too worried…

  46. Adam of Brisbane June 24, 2011 at 10:47 am -

I gave The Block another chance and it has actually been done much better this time than last season

We stayed on 9 for the rest of the night, Hot Property and Human Body were awesome

  47. chk chk June 24, 2011 at 9:29 am -

How good was Inside the Human Body last night, it was very fascinating… too many advetisements though, it’ll be heaps better if it was uninterrupted by advertisements.

  48. Ronnie June 23, 2011 at 9:52 pm -

So much for Nine’s mid year re-launch. They’re still coming 3rd with not much competition. Woeful. Surely time is up for Michael Healy et al? The Angry Boys situation is a classic case of over-milking one talented person until the well runs dry – there’s too much Chris Lilley and it seems everyone’s had enough. I prefer my comedy to be funny and make me laugh. Just too tired at the end of the day to work hard when I want to lean back and laugh and relax.

  49. Craig June 23, 2011 at 8:00 pm -

I don’t watch Angry Boys but I doubt the ABC considers it a flop, well not in the same league as that Ben Elton show. I this multi channel TV land 600k is nothing to complain about on the ABC.

Big Bang Theory needs to be rested on the main Nine channel, let the re-runs continue on GO! by all means but please Nine find something else, what about that other Chuck Lorre show Mike & Molly?

  50. pete June 23, 2011 at 7:06 pm -

How Grimshaw keeps a straight face introducing and watching the gash she spews onto viewers just amazes me. No self dignity at all presenting this diatribe. Intersting also 9′s desperation for the blockhead program to success. Have others noticed they are finishing aca smack bang at 7pm, not 7.04 like they have been for many months? Obviously trying to get the jump on Home and away which still starts at about 7.04 because 7 run their trashy TT over.

  51. Jerome June 23, 2011 at 6:53 pm -

Flop of the year is between Ben Elton, Angry Boys, and Ten weekend news.

others to add to petes list: Between the Lines, [timeslot] with George Negus, AFP, Madagascar, Detroit 187, Big, ACA Sunday, Million Dollar Drop, $#*! My Dad Says, Mike&Molly, The Defenders, Harrys Law, This is Your Life 2011, Send In the Dogs Australia, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, Ten Evening News.

  52. Moanique in Brisbane June 23, 2011 at 6:39 pm -

I find Angry Boys jaw-droppingly funny. It may not be rating as well as expected, but still over 600,000 viewers enjoying it.

  53. pete June 23, 2011 at 5:05 pm -

I unfortunately have to agree with some of the posters here that Angry Boys is one of the flops of 2011- and im not refering just to its crashing ratings. Add in: Between the Lines, Ben Elton, 2.5 Morons, A current affair, Getaway, Rescue, Million Dollar flop, This is your life and CSI:Any of them and you have a comprehensive 2011 flop list.

  54. TDJ June 23, 2011 at 4:18 pm -

@ Michael . I agree with TBBT comments. Nine must have the most incompetent programmers imaginable. They seem to be obsessive with repeats, probably because they don’t want to spend any cash on new content so they can spend hundreds of millions on sport. It is becoming a sick joke. The utterly ridiculous repeats of 2.5 Men got people sick of the program and now it appears that TBBT has replaced it. While networks are allowed to be a law unto themselves with no apparent guidance or regulation their stupidity and incompetence will just get worse. It makes the whole “freeview” rubbish a huge joke.

  55. Goonies June 23, 2011 at 4:17 pm -

Surely Ben Elton’s show is a bigger flop than Angry Boys?

I am enjoying Angry Boys and have watched every week, on the other hand I had less than zero interest in Ben Elton and did not watch any of it at all.

  56. Bogues June 23, 2011 at 3:46 pm -

So Nine have The Block (first week too), Ten don’t have Glee, and Nine still get third place. Nine must still be very worried, even if they did win Monday.

  57. NJK June 23, 2011 at 3:43 pm -

@ Evan – it’s got to be The flop of 2011 so far. Sure, the ABC never gets huge numbers but when you factor in a) the prior publicity, b) public expectation and c) the performance of his past series, it’s got to be the biggest disappointment so far this year by a long, long way. You’ve got to wonder what Lilley was thinking. It’s like he’s been lobotomised and therefore decided to get his jokes from the wall of a men’s public toilet instead.

  58. Maev June 23, 2011 at 3:02 pm -

    @ MuchoTB…
I like The Defenders….but I did miss it last night…forgot to switch back from SBS until the last 20 minutes….so I am going to watch it on ‘catchup’ as soon as I am finished here….

  59. Maev June 23, 2011 at 2:54 pm -

    13 Spicks And Specks ABC1 805,000…..
I cannot believe…with these ratings….this show is ending?!?

  60. Evan June 23, 2011 at 1:55 pm -

Can we call “Angry Boys” one of the flops of 2011 so far?
Really disappointing, considering that Chris Lilley is capable of much better than this rather humourless trash currently on the ABc.

  61. steve June 23, 2011 at 1:32 pm -

    @David Knox

I agree David that we aren’t aware of the relationships and/or boundaries within the house and the contestants. I wasn’t jumping to conclusions as Michael doesn’t seem the type to denigrate a fellow competitor on such a personal level. For me, if a comment was made about myself that was tongue in cheek, in the confines of the house would be fine but on national television would be another story.

  62. Nik C June 23, 2011 at 1:23 pm -

It is interesting to see H&A hold its viewers against the Block, seems 7pm Project is losing out…

  63. John Jackson June 23, 2011 at 1:07 pm -

@Johnson – darn! Very annoying 9 cut 20 minutes from the program yet was still able to call it ‘uncut’. Hopefully it can air again at some stage as I have no idea what was missing, so I guess the editing was done quite well this time.

  64. Craig June 23, 2011 at 12:56 pm -

It’s a shame Defenders isn’t doing better, I really like it. But at least TEN is still beating Nine.

  65. Trix June 23, 2011 at 12:16 pm -

Happy to see Offspring hold its own last night. Will be interesting to see how numbers for Monday and Wednesday nights pan out over the rest of the episodes.

What did people think of GBTWYCF last night?

  66. Kenny June 23, 2011 at 11:45 am -

Even with “The Block” Nine’s still #3. “Angry Boys” isn’t funny, just offensive, hence the audience dropoff.

  67. Michael June 23, 2011 at 11:34 am -

TBBT repeats lower again. People seem to be getting sick of it, there’s only so many times you can watch the same episode over and over again. The Block seems to be doing well, better than what TBBT was doing at 7pm. Time to think of something new, Nine. Showing it on Mon, Tue & Wed, in addition it the multiple screenings of GO! is backfiring.

The Defenders isn’t doing too well at 9:30pm for Ten. Enjoying the Wimbledon coverage. Great use of multi-channels showing it on 7TWO, then on Seven. Though, I don’t like how the picture shrinks when they show scores for other matches on the bottom of the screen (and they seem to do it a lot) and don’t understand why Seven use the Megawall so much.

  68. Adam of Brisbane June 23, 2011 at 10:28 am -

Those are terrible numbers for Angry Boys, perhaps they lost viewers to SBS – Or could it have been Offspring?

I tried watching The Block but thought it was too much like Masterchef

  69. MuchoTB June 23, 2011 at 10:26 am -

BBT repeats are sinking. Failing to reach 800k. Overexposure to blame?

Offspring held up well last night. The Defenders is still dropping…400k is woeful. How long until they replace it with Law and Order: Criminal Intent?

  70. Rob June 23, 2011 at 10:21 am -

Good that The Block seems to be holding its audience around 1.2, I think it’ll be a nightly push and pull for a few hundred thousand viewers between it and Home & Away until Renovators starts and upsets the apple cart.

  71. JB June 23, 2011 at 10:14 am -

@steve: I agree. When I heard Michael referring to Billy as “Queen of Desserts” I thought Michael was using the using wrong term.

Yes I saw the comment, but I don’t think we are privvy to the relationships, and terms of endearment, they have within the house. Indeed for all we know Billy may call himself that. I think we are hearing it out of context, so I wouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Did anyone else raise an eyebrow while watching MasterChef when Michael referred to Billy as the ‘Queen of Desserts’?

It’s funny and it’s known that Billy is out but still… a little inappropriate i reckon

I agree Parenthood was great last night. Loved the scene between Seth and amber when he took her to the car yard and loved the ending when Adam finds the test in the bin and is about to have a real go at Haddie and Kristina’s standing there saying its mine its mine and Adam isnt listening.

Its great having Wimbledon on at 9 but it isnt fun trying to get up early in the mroning after watcgung tennis for hours.
