I thought 668k for Parenthood was pretty good considering it started at 10:10pm. I agree with Moanique, love how they talk over each other, that’s how families communicate. Great acting and it’s a pretty funny show too. Have yet to see last night’s ep.

  2. Johnson June 22, 2011 at 4:03 pm -

@John Jackson: yes, the finale of Underbelly season 1 was heavily edited, with around 20 minutes cut out due to legal reasons.

  3. Moanique in Brisbane June 22, 2011 at 3:38 pm -

@ Craig, it is a pity Parenthood didn’t rate better. It is a brilliant show, the acting, storylines, everything. I love the way the characters talk over the top of each other, as in real life. Last nights ep was an emotional rollercoaster for me.

@Trix, I hadn’t planned on watching GBTWYCF but I will catch it up. Sounds like compelling viewing.

  4. ompman June 22, 2011 at 3:18 pm -

the block what a load of rubbish the slid has begun

  5. TDJ June 22, 2011 at 2:48 pm -

@ Geoff. Are you as clueless as you sound Geoff? An intelligent individual would understand that it is an example to make a point, not a statement of fact. Just like the ratings system I did not ask 500 thousand people what their viewing habits are. By the way, the majority of people in this country would own a recorder of some type. Everyone I know owns one and records programs. Maybe you do not own one and have interpolated that therefore no one else does.

    41 Angry Boys Rpt ABC1 245,000 66,000 63,000 71,000 15,000 29,000

The change resulted in a viewer drop of 440,000 from that timeslot when compared to the previous week.

    Briiliant move ABC…….Not!

Leave Qi on ABC1 where it belongs and don’t swap it for a repeat of Angry Boys Ever again!

  7. Brad June 22, 2011 at 2:09 pm -

Didn’t see MC last night. Can’t get too excited this year but if Steve is correct I’m concerned it is starting to degenerate. Next year they’ll make sure all 24 finalists are young and attractive and it will be more like Big Brother than MC.

  8. Craig June 22, 2011 at 2:07 pm -

I was hoping the Parenthood season final would rate better, just hope they fast track it in September and don’t wait until next January to bring it back.

Also Ten beat Nine last night, and The Block had a bit of a drop off from the first ep, they really should fast track new Top Gear next Tuesday but I know they won’t.

  9. Eye Spy June 22, 2011 at 1:55 pm -

@ Riley Tomkins and David response.
Well, whoever said that flattery will get you nowhere. I hope that nice cheque doesn’t bounce!
What a dumb decision from the ABC to shift QI from its usual spot to a later time on ABC2 and see the ratings drop from last weeks 683K to a miserable 143K and replace it with a quicky repeat of the woeful Angry Boys.
Even Ch. 9 wouldn’t be that stupid would they?

  10. Billy c June 22, 2011 at 1:45 pm -

Bumping q.I was annoying. I thought the abc didn’t play those sort of scheduling games. If I wanted to watch angry boys it’s on iview.

  11. John Jackson June 22, 2011 at 1:33 pm -

@Johnson – was the finale of Underbelly really heavily edited that much? Is someone able to say what was changed/taken out? I didn’t notice any pixellation of faces or beeping of words. Was it entire scenes removed?

  12. steve June 22, 2011 at 1:13 pm -

MC numbers are up on last week as AGT numbers are down. Perhaps the producers have the right idea, Hayden sure does bring in the ratings. Did you see the shot of him ironing his shirt wearing nothing but a towel? OMG! :O haha

So The Block already settles down to where repeats of TBBT were. Honestly isn’t cheaper to repeat a show you already have the rights for then this huge reality show Nine??

  13. Johnson June 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm -

How did Underbelly rate in Melbourne last night? It was the last two episodes of season 1 with the finale heavily edited.

  14. David Knox June 22, 2011 at 12:43 pm -

Monk: It got SBS their highest ratings so far in 2011.

  15. monk June 22, 2011 at 12:35 pm -

JB What a arrogrant thing to say. It didn’t rate well because people are sick and tired of the one sided debate the abc and sbs put forward on this subject.
Any way. Really enjoying one hd lately. The movies that they are showing over the past few nights have been excellent.. Pity 7mate which is suppose to be the channel directed at men doesn’t wise up to the fact that a man would rather watch a good horror/action/ scfi movie than how they make some bridge

  16. JB June 22, 2011 at 11:56 am -

Go Back to Where You Cam From was excellent viewing last night. Powerful stuff. Shame it didn’t rate better, but the audience that probably need to see it, probably don’t even know SBS exists.

Gotta give kudos to Seven’s Wimbledon coverage. Live sport, excellent to see(take note Nine Adelaide re Origin). But man do Seven love the Megawall.

  17. NJK June 22, 2011 at 11:48 am -

The Block already getting beaten by Home and Away – that didn’t take long! Maybe it was because everyone knew who would get through last night, given that 9 was promoting the winning couple well before the episode aired. They wouldn’t push a specific couple if they knew they were eliminated the first night. Then again, it IS 9…I wouldn’t put it past them.

On another note – and maybe this is being pedantic – but when you reply with comments, David, they’re always on top of the person’s comment. It’s a weird sort of format because I reckon most readers read from top to bottom, which means they’re reading a comment from you when they haven’t already read what you are replying to. I figure it’s something to do with the chronology and how it automatically lists, but maybe your reply could be an addendum to the comment so it reads more logically?? Just a suggestion!

  18. Rod June 22, 2011 at 11:32 am -

Angry Boys repeat fails miserably in place of QI. I hope Aunty thinks it was all worth it.

  19. Adam June 22, 2011 at 11:27 am -

    Good solid numbers for GBTWYCF

I was hoping it would get more than that but of course that is really good for SBS. Hoping that more people watch it tonight – especially the people that Need to watch it! Hope Tony Abbott is one of them.

  20. Michael June 22, 2011 at 10:54 am -

Nine back into third place for yet another Tuesday. TBBT repeats may work on GO! but is letting Nine down. Even RBT outrated it. Get rid of it. They have another two episodes tonight. Argh! Masterchef rated pretty well after the whole debacle of Matt revealing the result (or so we thought).

  21. Ellie June 22, 2011 at 10:43 am -

….. and I think that is exactly where The Block will stay. It shows that the 7pm Project gets flicked as soon as something else comes along..

  22. Trix June 22, 2011 at 10:41 am -

The first episode of GBTWYCF was compelling viewing last night. I just have to say all of the settled refugees who were shown in the program displayed enormous grace and dignity, in stark contrast to almost wilful ignorance displayed by a couple of the participants. I would urge everyone who reads this site who didn’t catch the first episode to watch, tape, beg or borrow the series. It’s eye opening, confronting and everything that documentary television should be – an opportunity to change our beliefs and attitudes.

  23. Rutzie June 22, 2011 at 9:32 am -

Big second night drop for The Block largely down to the Melbourne figures. I don’t think Nine would have banked on it falling below H&A this early.

  24. ryan June 22, 2011 at 12:12 am -

If ten wanna save money on news then i suggest they scrap the 6pm evening news on the wknds! Obviously they would need another show to fill in @ 6 but i’m sure they could find something that would get more than they are getting atm. And with the 6pm news weeknights, that also needs a major overhaul and should not include stories previously told during the 5-6 hr, if they wish to tell people the big news stories of the day then finish @ 5.55 and have 5 mins of quick reminders.

  25. Michael June 21, 2011 at 11:20 pm -

Honestly im talking seriously! Keep up the Good work David! I will always read your Website!!!!!!

  28. David Knox June 21, 2011 at 9:54 pm -

Hi Riley, radio ratings are seasonal not daily, but try mediaspy.org

  29. mv June 21, 2011 at 9:54 pm -

@ ryan i agree re offspring on Sunday night. I don’t think Downtown Abbey would rate so hightly against Offspring, as there would actually be something decent on another channel.

Don’t like it on Monday night as there are other things to watch and if i tape offspring i never get aroud to watching anyway. Having it on both Monday and Wed is overkill, just leave it to one night a week.

  30. Riley Tomkins June 21, 2011 at 9:43 pm -

David i know this has nothing to do with you but do you know which is the best Radio Ratings Website that tells you the ratings everyday like what you do, or at least every week. so i can check your fabulous website everyday like i always do because its the Best!!! and also see the Radio Ratings to see how like 2GB or Triple M is going everyday? Thank You So Much!

  31. Kian June 21, 2011 at 6:11 pm -

Not a bad number for Wimbledon, but hopefully it will grow as most of the people are not aware that Wimbledon has started.

  32. ohyeah June 21, 2011 at 6:07 pm -

Well done CH9. great start to the block… well produced and well edited.. I think the numbers will stay up around 1mil mark….
    :)

  33. Geoff June 21, 2011 at 6:03 pm -

    @ Ryan,

I reckon Offspring would do better on Channel 11 to be honest. That way I wouldn’t have to see it’s stupid ads anymore when I’m watching 10’s other programming.

  34. Brad June 21, 2011 at 6:03 pm -

Not surprised to see Downton Abbey win on Sunday night. This episode had a particular edge to it and the look on the families faces when the daughter walked in with her modern outfit on was priceless.

  35. Joe June 21, 2011 at 4:41 pm -

The ‘Made In Melbourne’ The Block campaign worked!!!

  36. steve June 21, 2011 at 3:31 pm -

Having recently bought my first home, the idea of renovating is quite interesting to me. The Block i don’t care for whereas the Renovators seems very appealing to me. The Block looks like to centers more on the couples where the Renovators, by the commercials are focusing more on the house. I hope that’s the case because i’m not interesting in having a ‘favourite team’

  37. ryan June 21, 2011 at 3:06 pm -

I tell u what i rekon offspring would be doin around 1.1m if ten left it on sundays after masterchef and then they can have hawaii 5,0 @ 9.30

  38. ryan June 21, 2011 at 2:59 pm -

Is there a reason we are still seeing that bloody negus encore!!! For fk sakes Ten get rid of it!

  39. Goonies June 21, 2011 at 2:41 pm -

I am actually stoked that Offspring will be on twice a week, I could use something else decent to watch or record for later viewing.

There are not that many options at the moment, believe me. I cannot fathom how with 14 (or whatever it is) channels that there can be absolutely nothing worth watching still!

Side note – Q&A was great last night, good to hear questions actually get answered instead of being danced around. Kogan may want to read an article or two before opening his ill informed mouth next time though.

  40. jonno June 21, 2011 at 2:28 pm -

Hot seat doing great figures at 5 30 pm. 813k. Where are all the Eddie critics now.

  41. Geoff June 21, 2011 at 2:25 pm -

    @ TDJ,

I love how your complaints of a flawed system makes you look like a fool. Do you really believe that if only 750,000 people watched a program that a futher 500,000 would’ve recorded it? No way does 40% of the Australian television viewing audience record everything they want.

  42. MuchoTB June 21, 2011 at 2:21 pm -

@TDJ: and six months ago you were the ‘fool’ who was whining about the networks showing rolling coverage of the floods because you found it depressing. Lol

The fact is mate NOF has lost 400,000 viewers since it’s premiere episode and 750k is not good enough in a primetime slot on the #1 commercial network. They’re there to run a business, just like Nine cut dog shows like Between the Lines and Ben Elton, Seven should do the same. The networks are there to make money for advertisers, not lose it by airing axed shows in primetime slots.

  43. Adam of Brisbane June 21, 2011 at 1:42 pm -

    @Get real
Because the commercials told them to.

  44. Brad June 21, 2011 at 1:38 pm -

What sort of figures would The Amazing Race pull if it had a decent lead in, surely TAR is the best quality show on Australian TV at the moment?

  45. TDJ June 21, 2011 at 1:17 pm -

It amazes me how people allow a flawed system to make them sound like fools. Gee, only three quarters of a million people watched a particular program, that is practically no one. Maybe they should add the half million who recorded it. How utterly ridiculous. It would be different if a network lost that many viewers. It would suddenly become a large number, wouldn’t it. People should be more concerned with the grossly incompetent way the networks are being run than ratings.

  46. Bogues June 21, 2011 at 1:14 pm -

Lets wait until next Monday to see how well The Block will do in long run. 7PM Project premier week was all 1m+ before it settled to lower figures.

  47. Jarred June 21, 2011 at 1:14 pm -

7TWO wins the night for the digitals with the addition of the Wimbledon coverage. I would expect tonight’s wimbledon ratings to be much higher as there are 5 Australians playing. The overall number for wimbledon should naturally pick up as the tournamnet progresses to the finals so it will be interesting to see what happens and whether seven think it was worth it.

  48. Get real June 21, 2011 at 12:40 pm -

I’m sickened by those figures for the block. Why Australia? Why?

  49. tmorgan96 June 21, 2011 at 12:22 pm -

Seems like the Made in Melbourne tactic worked for the Block

  50. Michael June 21, 2011 at 11:51 am -

Well I wasn’t expecting that number for The Block, especially after those horrible ads for it, 7 o’block… Rock Around the Block… really? It seems to have affected The 7pm Project the most, back around 700k for a Monday which isn’t good.

  51. MuchoTB June 21, 2011 at 11:41 am -

No Ordinary Family needs to be moved!! Its a terrible lead-in for The Amazing Race Australia. Why don’t they move it to Thursdays in place of HIMYM now that the season is wrapped up?

They should replace it with Border Security/The Force or a similar double. They’ve already aired eight episodes and it is losing viewers every week. Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives are finishing on Thursdays very soon as well, thats two timeslots free they could use for NOF and Law and Order: Los Angeles, which they’ve been promoting as ‘coming soon’.

Air Crash Investigations is a failure getting only 466k in a 9:30 timeslot. They should replace it with Covert Affairs which was getting 700-900k in the same timeslot last year.

  52. Jerome June 21, 2011 at 11:33 am -

could the elimination order on The Amazing Race be any worse? every week another favourite goes home. the big W ladies, mo&mos, and now my fav alana&mel are gone. and richard and joey might have been people to hate in real life but they made the show the most entertaining. Sam&renae are the only ones left i care for and whats the bets they get eliminated next. all the non-elimination legs are going to be used on the personalityless male-male teams.

  53. Rod June 21, 2011 at 11:16 am -

Nice to see a little bump for TAR.

  54. David Knox June 21, 2011 at 10:37 am -

There seems to be a lot of burning off of some local dramas by networks lately. I suppose TEN is looking to fill the Glee hole with a profile show, meet their drama points targets and strike while the Logie Award is hot.

  55. Trix June 21, 2011 at 10:27 am -

David, do you have any insight into the decision to run Offspring two nights a week? Considering it’s Ten’s premier Australian drama on air at the moment, I’m wondering why they’re racing through the episodes.

Caught bits of The Block last night. Pretty boring, to be honest, though I think you could play a fun game of ‘count the product placements’ each episode.

  56. Evan June 21, 2011 at 10:13 am -

I doubt Masterchef will rate as well tonight, because the result of the latest celebrity chef/immunity challenge has already been leaked by Matt Preston and one TV guide.
Australia’s Got Talent might crack the 2 million figure?

  57. Gonzo June 21, 2011 at 10:10 am -

Looks like a lot of people were watching tele last night

  58. Adam of Brisbane June 21, 2011 at 9:48 am -

Wow the Block did a lot better than I’d expected
I think feedback was generally good – But I’d rather watch the 7pm project personally

  59. Rutzie June 21, 2011 at 9:48 am -

The Block debuts well but whether it can maintain those numbers remains to be seen. It seemed to effect The 7pm Project more than H&A. Air Crash Investigations (In a ridiculous timeslot) will more than likely be dumped after those shocking numbers and NOF is now in the danger zone.

  60. Kieran June 21, 2011 at 9:29 am -

Fantastic numbers for The Block, let’s hope it holds and builds.
Also improved numbers for The Amazing Race… What a high quality production!
And Offspring… so close to reaching that manic million!

  61. A. June 21, 2011 at 1:27 am -

If Ten want to increase the reality shows time they can but if they do it makes me happy I don’t watch them very much. I hated it when they were 20-40 minutes late. Is it too much to ask to have shows start at around 8.30pm or 9.30pm within 5 minutes?

  62. ryan June 20, 2011 at 11:35 pm -

dam i love offspring! It’s fkn hilarious but also has those real intense moments and is balanced very well. So glad it’s got another season!

  63. steve June 20, 2011 at 7:02 pm -

I also agree with Catherine. I don’t know why programming at TEN don’t make most of the episodes 90 minutes. The ratings would stay the same whilst giving more audience average over another time slot and gives more opportunity for their advertising, whilst giving a full spectrum of each contestants cooking.

  64. Cookie June 20, 2011 at 5:12 pm -

I think Australia loves Sam Armytage

  65. Ryano June 20, 2011 at 4:23 pm -

AFL continues to fall in the ratings on free-to-air as more people watch on Foxtel in particular. Recent figures published by the AFL show free-to-air viewing audience was down slightly but up significantly on Pay-TV year on year.
The trend also seems to be that a lot of people have stopped watching delayed matches all together. This makes more sense as more people are connected online through smartphones, and fans will simply check online for scores rather than waiting up to 3 or more hours fo a delayed game.
This trend will only continue with all 9 games next year live on Fox Sports 1 or the new “Fox Sports AFL” channel.

  66. Ryano June 20, 2011 at 4:12 pm -

In Their Footsteps on Nine 16,000 in Perth? That cant be right>?

  67. DansDans June 20, 2011 at 2:25 pm -

@Brad – I’m as big an AFL fan as you can get, obsessed even, but the numbers are low and have been for a while

  68. DAN June 20, 2011 at 1:51 pm -

yep i agree they should show the other contestants dishes in MC on sunday night not just the winners and losers

  69. Pete June 20, 2011 at 1:48 pm -

Interesting to see that live Sunday afternoon AFL involving the Swans rated about the same in Sydney as live Sunday afternoon league involving the Storm rated in Melbourne. Not often we get to make that comparision.

  70. mv June 20, 2011 at 1:48 pm -

@ catherine, i agree, less talking and more showing what they actually cook, last night and pretty much every sunday night is so predicable.

They could easily fit in showing what everyone cooked if they didn’t show much of the judged blabbing on and less commentary from the contestants, (I know what has just happened…… I am watching it!!!) I do feel the novelty of this show is wearing off for me. I want to see more cooking.

If they must show all this then make the show half an hour longer, that would cut into Downtown Abbey’s figures too.

  71. Brad June 20, 2011 at 1:26 pm -

    @DansDans
Don’t want to get involved in the weekly NRL v AFL rubbish but AFL is spread across 2 listings due to different game airing on 7 in Adlaide and Perth compared with everywhere else.

When total AFL figure is taken into account, viewing was 100K more than NRL.

  72. Ruth June 20, 2011 at 12:06 pm -

@ catherine, agree with your comments re Masterchef. They have only been showing winners and losers on Sunday Nights. Getting very bored with MC this season.

Love Downto Abbey, so well put together, bring on more of this Ch7.
You should show The Borgia’s & Game of Thrones at some stage too.

  73. Jerome June 20, 2011 at 11:49 am -

@Margaret Morrisey, I agree, now Brynne is gone I lost interest in DWTS. hopefully she can land another show, or her own show soon.

Another great epside of Downton Abbey. This is seriously a good english drama and just love the one liners Maggie Smith has. Its a shame that season 1 is only 7 episodes. Its not long enough.

Materchef is annoying me on sundays. I want to see what all the contestants have cooked not just 3/4s of them. Its obvious from the start who is the top and bottom 3.

    GReat show!!!!
Most British drama beats anything the US or Aus produces…this show is one of the best I’ve seen..

DWTS is so boring now the amazing Brynne has gone, now it’s just bland leading the bland. Thank goodness for Daniel McPherson being so damned good to look at.

Still incredible ratings numbers for a British costume drama on commercial television – Downtown Abbey is top notch stuff, beautifully acted and produced.
Masterchef – is it really in a slump, as someone else has asserted here? Still strong figures for the network, and I bet that they’ll make a big deal out of the “Matt cheating incident” when that episode goes to air.

More people watched the Storm in Melbourne than the Swans in Sydney. 9 should continue showing these games as ratings have improved. No excuses anymore.

Downton Abbey is back to #1, despite dropping to #2 last week. I’ve noticed a few numbers have dropped last night, still not enough to place it lower. Glad to see it back at the top again!!
