Thank you David for this week’s figures. :)

  2. Geoff July 3, 2011 at 5:21 pm -

    @ bettestreep2008,

Don’t want to burst your bubble, but of the 808,000 that watched “Saturday Night AFL Football” on TEN, both Syd & Adel’s figures (200,000 combined) were watching the Swans/Crows clash at the same time.

I think the reason the figure was unusually high for Saturday night AFL was the combination of the two games plus the fact the game Wasn’t on ONE. I think you over estimate the amount of people that would refuse to watch a footy game simply because it’s not in HD.

  3. catherine July 3, 2011 at 5:21 pm -

Well the big question is how many dishes will we see on masterchef tonight. There are only ten contestants to Im expecting to see most of them.

Cant believe wimbledon is finishing tonight. It has been great watching it and I think 7 has done a great job.

  4. Ryano July 3, 2011 at 2:47 pm -

More very good Saturday night AFL numbers. The Seven Network can look forward to complete ratings domination in Mel/Ad/Perth from next year with 2 prime time games.

  5. Moanique in Brisbane July 3, 2011 at 1:14 pm -

I love Downton Abbey too, but find myself talking in a very proper English accent for the next couple of hours.

  6. Frankie July 3, 2011 at 1:12 pm -

Joe, just a much better game on Saturday rather than Friday night this week.

  7. bettestreep2008 July 3, 2011 at 12:17 pm -

Exciting match of AFL last night. Winner wasn’t decided until final minutes and the ratings – esp in Melbourne – showed why it was so popular.

Good to see Ten win the night – but they would easily have rated over 1m if they showed it simultaneously on their OneHD channel.

A very bad programming decision from Ten’s new bosses!

  8. Joe July 3, 2011 at 11:53 am -

Good to see Channel 10 winning the night with their football coverage. Is Saturday Night Football the premier timeslot now? People have had enough of Channel 7′s 20th century delays and have given up on Friday Night Football for the rest of the year until next year when it is Live on the east and short delay into Adelaide.

  9. Dave July 3, 2011 at 11:48 am -

Bombers! Yew Frothing! What a game!

  10. Secret Squïrrel July 3, 2011 at 11:26 am -

I love the way some people selectively quote statistics (or sometimes just make them up) to try to support their viewpoint.

  11. Another John July 3, 2011 at 10:08 am -

@John. Oh, come on. Downton Abbey is completely derivative on every level. It’s hardly original at all. DGMW, I really like DA, but it’s like Lady Gaga, it just borrows from everything else that’s gone before it and creates something entertaining out of it. Why are people so hung up on so-called ‘originality’ as a mark of quality? It’s not plagiarism, it’s an homage.

  12. David Knox July 2, 2011 at 11:30 pm -

In Week 26 about half of those were bigger on Monday. Wimbledon is hardly a fair pick….

  13. craig July 2, 2011 at 11:18 pm -

David im not against you but i can name 10 shows that rate better on Fridays than Mondays.

    There is:

    Judge Judy – Ten
Everyday Gourmet with Justine Schofield – Ten
Two Guys and a Girl – Ten
    Wimbledon 2011 – Day 11 – Seven
    The Morning Show – Seven
    Seven Morning News – Seven
    Time Team – ABC1
    Timmy Time – ABC2
    Letters and Numbers – SBS
    World News Australia – SBS

@ Anna…..’scuse me!!!!!!!…….I happen to iike The Defenders….you are not the only person who watches ch.10

  15. ryan July 2, 2011 at 10:02 pm -

Hey david do u rekon you could do a poll on what reality show should return, with shows like sytycd aus, aus idol, aus big brother and so on. Would be interesting to see the results

  16. David Knox July 2, 2011 at 9:33 pm -

Whilst I think the jury is still somewhat out, find me a show that doesn’t start big on Mondays and slip by Fridays? Sundays and Mondays are the biggest viewing nights of the week.

  17. David @ Green Point July 2, 2011 at 9:28 pm -

A slow drop in the figures for The Block as the week progressed…

From 1,440,000 on Monday night to 1,153,000 on Friday.

  18. John July 2, 2011 at 8:44 pm -

I enjoy Downton Abbey but was very unhappy about the shameful ” stealing” of the flower show sequence which appeared in the 1942 film “Mrs Miniver”. The show is good enough without plagiarism.

  19. Austin July 2, 2011 at 6:39 pm -

    Ohh yeah!!! Thank You

  20. mmh July 2, 2011 at 6:37 pm -

    @Anna

Would Free to air Tv be allowed to even show True Blood because the dvd’s do have a R rating

  21. ompman July 2, 2011 at 6:21 pm -

channel9 should be ashamed of its self with all its product placement is it legal to show all of it on the block

  22. ryan July 2, 2011 at 6:14 pm -

I hope Ten bring back Before The Game next yr cause i rekon it;s a pretty good show, they just need to keep it in 1 timeslot and for 1 hr so prob should be 5.306.30 and scrap the rest of the news for the night.

  23. David Knox July 2, 2011 at 4:45 pm -

Hi Austin. Network figures for Seven = 7+TWO+7mate. Channels then breaks out the individual channels.

  24. Austin July 2, 2011 at 3:17 pm -

David how come on Thursday it says channel 7 beat channel 10 (25.9) to (25.4) on the network list down the bottom and channel 10 beat channel 7 (19.4) to (17.4) on the channels list? I don’t get it, I don’t understand what the hell all of that means!!!!
Can you please explain what all of that means? Thank You

  25. ryan July 2, 2011 at 3:10 pm -

Best masterclass yet! It so makes me wanna go to N/Z

  26. Anna July 2, 2011 at 3:00 pm -

    Dearest Channel 10,

Please invest more time and effort in quality shows that work well in your prime time slots. Don’t invest in stupid shows that only last one season for example that ridiculous Jim Belushi show? You have some ‘decent’ shows that deserve better time slots. How about this, you can afford to have Glee on, why don’t you replace it during the winter break with something like the new season of True Blood? Or air a new comedy series such as Happy Endings? These are shows I personally think would be appropriate in age demographics and would prove favourably.

  27. Kian July 2, 2011 at 10:47 am -

Very good ratings for Wimbledon on 7TWO, considering that there was no Aussie in action, and its in a digital channel. Serve Nine right for dumping this wonderful tennis tournament.

  28. Kieran July 2, 2011 at 10:21 am -

Why the hell are TEN wasting Burn Notice by putting it on Friday at 9.30?
Put it on earlier in the week and it will rate So much better!

  29. ryan July 1, 2011 at 10:34 pm -

ten need to replace sabrina with the simpsons @6

  30. Annie July 1, 2011 at 10:14 pm -

I am so happy that offspring has made it to 6th place in the ratings, 5 or 6 morespots than normal, it really is the most amazing show, it really deserves number one spot!!

  31. Jerome July 1, 2011 at 10:02 pm -

    @bettestreep: the week-to-dates are
    Seven – 31.5%
    Nine – 25.8%

Not a chance 9 will win the week with just Fri and Sat to go.

  32. Johnson July 1, 2011 at 9:12 pm -

Sorry I mean Seven will win the week with plenty to spare.

  33. Secret Squïrrel July 1, 2011 at 9:11 pm -

Agree – Norton’s great. It has been really entertaining even when the guests aren’t people I’m interested in. Craig Ferguson is like that, too. (Being entertaining in spite of the guest not the group thing).

  34. Johnson July 1, 2011 at 9:10 pm -

@bettestreep2008: Seven is still certain to win the night given it won Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday by a big margin, and Nine finishing third on Tuesday and Wednesday and having only one NRL game tonight, which always put it on a disadvantage.

  35. Moanique in Brisbane July 1, 2011 at 6:14 pm -

@ maev, I agree and love the way each guest stays on the couch and it becomes a group conversation, rather than just an interview, i.e Parkinson, Rove, Dame Edna etc

  36. Geoff July 1, 2011 at 6:07 pm -

    @ James,

    Are you sure?

My guess is that “The Game Plan” is the ratings for the 8:30pm edition and that ratings are calculated the same way as the AFL/NRL Footy Show’s are done.

So it’s the NRL version in Syd/Bris and the AFL version in Melb/Adel/Perth.

  37. Maev July 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm -

    @ Sacs….I agree….If people do not watch Graham Norton…they are missing a great show….and a really good laugh…and really great entertainment…
The guest just totally relax and have fun….and it shows….
Definately should have first run on ABC1.
Loved the interaction between Cameron Diaz and Bear Grylls last night…

  38. tmorgan July 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm -

Tried the Block last night and it was entertaining, but Inside the Human Body last night was fantastic. Well done Nine.

  39. James July 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm -

@Bob the game plan is for nrl only

  40. bob July 1, 2011 at 4:14 pm -

Or is it both NRL and AFL Combined? Please answer because i really want to know because it finally reached the list?

  41. bob July 1, 2011 at 3:13 pm -

Hey David is the Game Plan the NRL one or the AFL one???

  42. Mario July 1, 2011 at 2:25 pm -

About Freaking Time! Yes im so happy that the NRL Footy Show rated better than desperate housewives and private practice in Sydney because the Footy Show yesterday was the Best. Fatty and Darryl are so funny there the Best they make the Show Soooo Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and so does Mario Fenech his hilarious too!!!

  43. Sacs July 1, 2011 at 2:18 pm -

Wow! An ABC2 programme outrated an ABC1 show on at the same time:

    44 The Graham Norton Show ABC2 244,000
45 Baker Boys: Inside The Surge ABC1 238,000

While Norton’s show has always had a first run on ABC2 (repeated of late on ABC1), how long before we see a change to screen first on ABC1, with it repeated on ABC2?

  44. JB July 1, 2011 at 1:26 pm -

@John are you referring to P E N I S D U M P on Letters & Numbers?? They showed it on the NRL Footy Show and made me laugh.

  45. chk chk July 1, 2011 at 10:13 am -

How good was Inside the Human Body last night! I must say that I got more disturbed seing the baby coming out of his mother’s womb rather than the man dying although that was also equally painful to watch. This series has been the best documentary ever, I will buy the DVD if it ever comes out.

  46. bettestreep2008 July 1, 2011 at 10:09 am -

Looks like Nine is going to win the week!

The Block has rated consistently over 1.1m all week. Great ratings for what is one of the crappiest shows on TV at the moment.

Says heaps about Australian TV audiences doesn’t it?

As for MC – great ep last night but although I am disappointed in how the blue team ended up in the elimination challenge – I have worked out why this occurred.

Put aside the rubbish about the the teams being judged on the 3 components – one of them being how they worked in the kitchen – if it wasn’t for the judges desire to keep Ellie and Danni in the show, it was definitely the producers desire to have an even 5 men and 5 women in the Top 10.

Think about it. If the red team lost – there was a 5 out of 6 chance that a female contestant would leave the show resulting in a Top 10 of 6 men and 4 women.
(Unless Matt lost – but we all know he made the Top 10 from the leaks in the media a few weeks ago).

I still enjoy MC – but I will kick the TV set in if Dannii or Elli make it to the final 2.

  47. ryan July 1, 2011 at 1:01 am -

When the hell is Ten gonna put 10 l8 news back to 10.30? It should average around 400,000 a night and it would lift ten’s share for that slot!

  48. TDJ June 30, 2011 at 11:11 pm -

You have to wonder what idiots are running these networks. What was the point in running the first hour of the Tomic match on 72 and then having everyone switch to 70. It may have made some sense if there had been a new episode of something on 70, but only a repeat of Criminal Minds and half an hour of basically nothing. There is no apparent reason not to have shown the whole game on the one channel. It appears the more channels they have the dumber they get.

  49. Secret Squïrrel June 30, 2011 at 9:12 pm -

@Hornberger – I disagree. Seven’s three channels are clearly differentiated and definitely not the same product. The programs on 72 (for instance) are not just the same as those on 7 but with a different title. Not even similar. The audience demos for 72 are also completely different from those of 7 or 7mate and that is what advertiser’s are interested in.

Furthermore, the cost of buying airtime on 72 and 7mate is a lot less than on the main channel. The same goes for the other commercial networks. Advertisers are not interested commercially in the performance of the group as a whole. Shareholders might be but they’d be better off reading financial reports rather than ratings surveys.

  50. Goonies June 30, 2011 at 6:47 pm -

@ mv, I will agree to disagree.

I think some people are confusing ‘not getting their own way’ with ‘MC is rigged doncha know’ Also without tasting dishes we really only have half the story, don’t we.

Blue didn’t do that well kitchen wise, ran late, dessert not set. It was definitely a close call but I see how the Reds won.

At the end of Offspring they said immediately.. Offspring back 9pm next week.

  51. Mate June 30, 2011 at 5:47 pm -

I’m so happy Home and Away’s Hawaii episodes did nothing for the shows ratings, in fact it saw decreases on all three nights! Yay!!

Good job on Neighbours atm, hovering around the 400,000 mark for each episode! Hope they break that 500,000 mark soon!

  52. mv June 30, 2011 at 5:22 pm -

BTW the judges said at the start they would be judged on how they worked in the kitchen as well as how they pleased the client. If it was only judged on how they pleased the client then fair enough but it wasn’t. The red teams stuff ups clearly outweighed the blue teams.

I thought the show was about finding the best chef but it’s nothing about that anymore.

  53. mv June 30, 2011 at 5:13 pm -

@ Catherine, Thank you. @ Goonies, get over yourself, i don’t have time to be reading through all comments to see when it is on, and when I looked on an online guide before it was not listed.

Re Masterchef that is the major problem with the show, the challenges are not designed so the best cook wins. Whether they served the terrine or not the intention was to serve it and if Garry had not of intervened they would have. The though of even buying that in a show called Masterchef should ensure they lost.

  54. Goonies June 30, 2011 at 4:22 pm -

Lots of comprehension problems around here today.

Blue team lost on MC because they did not fulfill the brief correctly, food was late and too heavy for a business lunch. How you can disagree on that point I don’t know. On the other hand Red team met the brief even though they worked badly.

I am pretty sure Ryan meant Ellie’s 21st too. It was pretty obvious from his comment.

Dani is my most disliked contestant on the show so I have no reason to side with the red team with regards to this.

And on another matter, as has been pointed out Offspring is on next Wednesday at 9.00pm

  55. John June 30, 2011 at 3:34 pm -

I thought Letters and Numbers last night was one of the best I have seen. The last number puzzle was esp. good

  56. catherine June 30, 2011 at 3:33 pm -

I disagree the right team won MC last night. Even though Eliie was a shocking captain in the first hour last night and stupidly bought the terrine but she didnt end up using it. The food looked great and thats what the brief was. Finger food. If that was served to me at a party Id be happy. The beef looked good and those duck spring rolls looked magnificent. Also there was plenty of it and the cake the twins wanted involvment so I guess the cupcakes worked.

Peters team didnt meet the brief. You dont serve beef cheeks then a 3 layer rich chocolate tart that didnt even set for a light lunch. Also they were late getting out there dishes. Peter was the better captain but didnt think about the dishes. It will be interesting to see if Hayden uses his pin.

Offspring is on at 9 next wednesday

  57. Ruth June 30, 2011 at 3:27 pm -

Thank goodness for 7TWO, I am really enjoying watching the tennis live and last night we saw a new champion in the making with Tomic, just great to have an up and coming Aussie champion..

  58. Evan June 30, 2011 at 1:52 pm -

Masterchef has jumped the shark: it’s certainly no longer about rewarding the best cooks.
Sadly someone really decent will get eliminated tonight, while the likes of Dani and Ellie will be still around.
I guess the only thing I’m intrigued about is how Channel 10 handles the Matt expulsion, in terms of editing, and who he’s replaced with?

  59. mv June 30, 2011 at 1:02 pm -

Great figures for Offspring! About time too, is great this season.

I see it’s not on next Monday or Wednesday……. Why do they have to change it when it’s going well?? It’s only got a few weeks to go can’t they leave it alone!! This infuriates me. Does anyone know when they will show it next week??

  60. Mason June 30, 2011 at 12:31 pm -

@MV. I agree totally – very disappointed with MC and I personally thought that a bought dish should warrant a disqualification. Is Ellie one of their kids or something.

  61. Johnson June 30, 2011 at 12:28 pm -

@Rutzie: yes, last night’s Wimbledon coverage on 7TWO set a new multichannel record, well above the 513,000 for the Royal Wedding telecast on 7TWO (Melbourne and Adelaide) two months ago.

  62. Hornberger June 30, 2011 at 12:02 pm -

Coles and Bilo are owned by the same company, selling the same products in the same market. Except for the name, they are the same business. It is perfectly valid and in fact more relevant to talk about the market shares of the Coles Group than that of individual brands.

In Australia it’s a Holden, in the UK its Vauxhall, in Germany it’s an Opel and in the USA it’s a Chevrolet but all are exactly the same car own owned by same company just sold under a different brand.

Seven, 7two and 7mate are all owned and operated in by Seven West Media, they are selling the same product in the same market. The performance as group is more important than their individual performance.

  63. steve June 30, 2011 at 12:01 pm -

David, say it isn’t so…. Seven News Sunday will be the most watched show of the week??

Also agree congrats go to Offspring on the magic number. It’s a shame The Block has stolen 7pm project’s viewers, hopefully they survive the slaughter next week.

@JB – I think Ryan meant Allie, as in the contestant’s party. However i agree with you that the challenge did look like a rich, eastern suburbs kid party
@mv – I don’t remember them actually serving the terrine, after Gary made his comments i wouldn’t have been surprised if they abandoned the idea or weren’t allowed to serve it. Perhaps i wasn’t paying close enough attention.

  64. Jezza June 30, 2011 at 11:51 am -

I bet ch9 are pleased with the block, pity for them that it seems to be surrounded by low rating crap. I gave up on it after Mondays crappy episode, but it has some traction now.

As regards all the whinging about MC, one of the issues here is familiarity and it is breeding a high degree of contempt. We know the rules, the judges, the production & editorial style etc… and perhaps we just know a little too much. Its ok, but that is all it ever was, just ok.

  65. Craig June 30, 2011 at 11:26 am -

Offspring did good last night, helping TEN to beat Nine once again.

The Victorian Pharmacy program on SBS was interesting.

  66. Rutzie June 30, 2011 at 11:22 am -

Are those numbers for Wimbledon last night a multichannel record? Also thanks for putting American Pickers on the list David. Made a late decision to watch it and quite enjoyed it.
