Axed: Camelot

Irish / Canadian period drama Camelot, set to screen on Nine, has not been renewed for a second season.

Irish / Canadian period drama Camelot has not been renewed for a second season by Starz.

The series, starring Joseph Fiennes, Jamie Campbell Bower and Eva Green, will stand at 10 episodes despite delivering Starz’ largest ever opening for a new drama.

A statement from Starz said, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.”

The news is disappointing for Nine which will air the show later this year.

  1. How wonderful to live in a time that shares the Python legacy some 36 years later.

Now, just what was this Camelot show about…?

  2. If I had some how watched a few episodes of this show, I would describe it as a mixed bag. One which I thought, maybe i’ll watch the rest at some stage, maybe not. Wasn’t bad, just didn’t quite grab me as something I must watch.

One of the weakest parts being the guy who plays Arthur. He comes across too much as a boy, when all the other male leads come across and look like strong capable men. So the whole dynamic of him being a strong leader just doesn’t quite seem believable or work.

Someone told me a while back that the budget for this was insane. More than the infinitely better produced, written, performed, directed, shot and everything else, Game of Thrones. So if that’s true, that would be a big factor.

  3. So I haven’t seen the promos/sneak peeks on Nine in over a week, maybe they saw the writing on the wall and will now move this to GEM?

Well if they do at least it will be in HD, not that it’s very good on GEM. Here (sunshine coast) our signal is breaking up and pausing all the time and I have access to GEM on 80 & 90, don’t have the same problem on the other HD channels.
