Dani wins second Immunity, but fans question fairness.

Dani Venn won another Immunity pin on MasterChef, but questions are raised about the challenge against swimmer Eamon Sullivan.

25 year old publicist Dani Venn won another Immunity pin on MasterChef Australia last night.

She is the first contestant in MasterChef history to win two Immunity pins.

Venn previously won an Immunity pin which she yielded when facing a previous Immunity challenge.

She defeated former Celebrity MasterChef champ swimmer Eamon Sullivan at his own dessert, a Chocolate Delice.

Venn scored 25 points to Sullivan’s 24 points.

It gives her a powerful Immunity at a crucial time in the competition.

But the challenge itself has attracted criticism because Sullivan is not a professional chef.  Indeed, last night the show also incorporated an experienced chef as guest judge, Phillipa Sibley.

The backlash follows growing criticism of the third series, despite its strong ratings.

Last night, viewers vented their feelings on Twitter:

treehousesweets: I’m going to stop watching #masterchef after tonight’s show. What an insult to previous seasons’ challenges.

Steven_Savona: “Tomorrow night on #MasterChef Australia, Dani is given a full-body massage, a manicure, six more immunity pins and one million dollars.”

stalepopcornau: Barely watched any of #masterchef tonight seeing as it was so obviously a setup for Dani to win. Really? Eamon Sullivan? Ugh.

mschefkitchen: Dani vs @Eamon_Sullivan in #masterchef Choc Delice challenge. How is that a challenge? He’s a swimmer! Predictably Dani wins. Go blue! #fb

skaye: Congrats to the producers of #Masterchef you’ve totally turned me off. Terrible cooks keep getting breaks – Dani and Ellie come to mind.

emsimpson77: Same level of celebrity chefs, same rules, same level of dish difficulty. Immunity has been too easy to win this year #masterchef

justinchiu: Next week on #masterchef Dani/Ellie competes for immunity against a 5 year old. There will be tears, just not sure whose yet.

MissAlienSandra: Eamon Sullivan is a swimmer of course a passionate cook eg. Dani would beat him on cooking a dessert! #Masterchef

Obfus_Cate: what a surprise. dani wins immunity. shock. horror. vomit. #masterchef

The Daily Telegraph even reports about online bullying against Dani Venn, including jokes about death threats.  Last year Joanne Zalm was the target of online vitriol, whilst My Kitchen Rules’ Melanie Maddock also received death threats on Facebook earlier this year.

Rick Maier, TEN’s head of drama said: “It is a very sad day for all of us when contestants on a TV program are subject to any kind of negative commentary from an anonymous few – whether that is Masterchef or any other program.  Dani is a delight on and off set, and has made the same steadfast commitment to the program that we ask of everyone.”

  1. I think masterchef is so annoying because they keep favoring Dani and Hayden and it’s such a disgrace to the show and so unfair for the other contestants. Hated this season, never watching it again. And for further record hated Dani.

  2. As far as I am concerned, Dani deserved the second immunity pin, Eamon Sullivan is Not an amateur cook, he has a cookbook out, I believe and has some really good dishes, we should have been questioning the first immunity pin Dani won against that chef whose apprentice helped Venn more than him.So technically, Dani should Not have won that first immunity pin.

  3. even joking about making death threats against Dani Venn is not on, because we only judged her on how she presented herself on TV. fair enough, we saw too much of her, but she wore her heart on her sleeve and I admire her 4 that.

  4. I think some of the comments made against Dani is not good. She wore her heart on her sleeve for the whole series and almost got 2 the finals week for it. didn’t like the way she went out, cooking one of her worst dishes to date. I think if she had have been more relaxed and not rushed, she would have got through 2 the final 3.

by the way, it’s not favouritism shown to Hayden and Dani, I think it was Dani and Ellie. I hope Kate wins the competition, because she deserves to.

  5. The show has hit an all time low with favouritsm to Dani. She can not cook. She has been nutured too long. If she uses her spoon-fed immunity pin to avoid elimination, poor Alana will have to face elimination by default. This is a farce. If Alana loses I hope she takes out a law-suit against channel 10 for potential loss of income and unfair dismissal!

  6. I am a big fan of MC but this year slowly turning off the show. It is obvious that there is a bias towards some of the contestants. I am really annoyed that Danni had a challenge against an Olympic swimmer, she should have gone against a masterchef. Although the dish looked fanastic and nothing against Eamon Sullivan he should have been on the show earlier when there was not so much at risk. I did not watch the show that night as I knew who would win and the same for the show last night I knew at the beginning the winner. Please take the show back to what it once was, the mystery box etc. This seems fairer and makes sure the best cooks get through.

  7. The red team were handed a free ride to the finals! What hypocrites the judges are,the blue team clearly ticked all the boxes. The two main components that had to be perfect re;…timing, the judges were amazed by that…& the signature dish was better than perfect how can they blatantly be so two faced…There are only two consistant worthy cooks…Micheal & Hayden.

  8. I didn’t watch masterchef tonight and i have to say did not miss it one little bit. Haven’t watched since Monday night and won’t be watching again.

I don’t blame Danni, i blame the producers and the judges, this season is lacklustre and so average. They got rid of the people with talent long ago (not that there was many anyway). There fact that Danni and Ellie are still there is a joke.

  9. Totally agree that the immunity pins are a joke…how can Kate & Billy have to cook an enormous dish for survival against an amateur and a swimmer for an immunity pin……get real Masterchef……you’ve failed to get the balance right between last series and this one…….Dani needs to be told to pin her hair back as she obviously was in New York and neither her or Ellie can cook without a recipe…….where are the real contenders ???

  10. Of course I’ll still watch it – for the rest of this season at least- but my heart constantly sinks as the judges consistantly fall for the pretty smiles over substance. Bring in Anna Gare to the everyday judging panel or is that why Donna Hay went missing – She didn’t approve of the judges bias for pretty young things. The judges may have realised there is no mileage in promoting Julie types over Poh’s but Ellie and Dani will have friends and family support only!!!!! – not many books in that.

  11. How come the requirements – taste over presentation one minute and then presentation over taste the next? We will not be watching Masterchef again, so disappointed in the favouritism shown to Dani and Ellie.!! And tonights decision…… come on judges, someone throw a bucket of water over them, the blue team should have won!!!! So thats it – no more Masterchef for us.

  12. Hey everyone, thanks so much to the channel Ten producers for giving me this prize… Special thanks must go to the judges for letting me “take care” of their needs. I had no idea it would help this much! I mean… I stuffed up a club sandwich – a sandwich!! The steak I cooked was edited out – was probably overcooked, I burnt some buns, couldn’t make lolly pops, don’t know how to put together a simple roster, can’t cook tapioca, and suck as a captain cooking French food, but… i can cook icecream and my ho-hum curry beats restaurant quality pasta – cause I am the MasterChef! I only needed two immunity pins too. So now I join the ranks of “puddle pie” Julie! What a standard!!

  13. MuchoTB, while I really don’t care about MC at all, I think your comments were a bit harsh. This is a TV blog. If you want people to discuss world hunger or terrorism, maybe this isn’t the site for you. And also, what’s wrong with people being passionate about what they are watching? A friend of mine whose husband died in really tragic circumstances coped by watching every episode of Australian Idol and reading every article she could find on it. Gave her something to think about. I’m an English teacher and I am completely passionate about teaching The Simpsons to help students understand classic texts that they might otherwise give up on. Doesn’t mean I don’t care about politics or world hunger! Live and let live!!

  14. If that Dani wins this year, 11 friends of mine and myself will never watch this show again, its rigged. She is a pain, not that great a cook and full of herself to a shuddering vision every show, and producers show her so often its ridiculous what she thinks etc. etc. unreal! We dont believe in the show any more now. Used to love it, but we are over it this year!

  15. I have read the above comments about last nights immunity challenge. Yes the guest judge did hold up the wrong card But I have a photo taken from the TV show and it clearly shows Eamon Did in fact have a recipe on his bench.

  16. Pathetic. If Matt Preston is Australia’s most ‘famours’ food critic God help us – how can you score a 9 out of 10 with caramel that’s like glue? Definitely favourtism. Also, I think Matt, George and Gary need to take acting lessons – their ‘surprise’ at finding out who cooked what in these blind tastings needs serious attention! I used to like the show because the food didn’t lie – but now I wonder . . . And while I’m on your back, It’s sickening to have to view immature ‘grown women’ crying and wringing their hands behaving like little girls because they can not take a bit of criticism or can not deal with their own failure or can not tolerate reality; grown-ups are much more enjoyable to watch; when you get them back I shall tune in again, otherwise – I No watch no more.

  17. Very disappointed with MC this year. Contestants not as good as previous years. Bias towards Dani is obvious. She has been given too much air time when she cries, laughs, is happy, is sad, throws a tantrum etc.

Will give it a miss next year. Miss the old format.

  18. it is unbelievable that Dani has 2 immunity pins. I began to dislike her when she was above one of the contestants in an elimination and kept telling the poor girl what to do the when she was in an eleimination , she told the others who were doing exactly what she had done to shut up. She cries, swears and holds grudges. and is not even a good cook. Tonight she burns the buns, not good for her team mates but she has immunity.
