Returning: Top Gear

Yes you read rightly. Brand, spanking new Top Gear UK returns to Nine soon.

First run episodes of Top Gear return soon on Nine, back at 8:30pm Tuesday nights.
It will be interesting to see how the brand fares given audiences tired of trying to work out which were new episodes and which were reruns.
This season premiered in the UK last week.
Direct from the United Kingdom, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig are back for another round of car tests and reviews, motoring challenges and celebrity guest drivers in their Reasonably Priced Car segment. Plus all the Top Gear wit and banter from the hosts, entertaining motoring advice, and a stack of more mishaps and adventure.

Series 17 of the world’s most explosive motoring entertainment program sees the hosts reinvent public transport with a car-based train, smash down buildings using surplus military equipment, race fast hatchbacks around the Monaco Grand Prix track, create a title sequence for an imaginary 1970s detective show and find things to do while you wait for your electric car to recharge.
The Stig is let loose in some seriously hardcore hardware including the Aston Martin Virage, the McLaren MP4-12C, the Lamborghini Avantador and the BMW 1-Series M. If that’s not enough, Alice Cooper, Sebastian Vettel and Simon Cowell are among the sensational stars in the Reasonably Priced Car.

In the first episode, Jeremy Clarkson celebrates the 50th birthday of the legendary Jaguar E-type by driving a modern, half a million pound interpretation of this classic sports car before hitting the tarmac for a typically low- key birthday party involving live music, classic fighter planes and a group of Royal Marines.
Meanwhile, Richard Hammond is in South Africa to test a bigger, even more rugged alternative to the famous Hummer and James May meets up with gold medal-winning British Olympian Amy Williams for a wintry test of the latest Mini rally car. Plus, the power-crazed BMW 1-Series M slithers around the Top Gear test track in a cloud of tyre smoke and another famous celebrity does a lap time test.

It returns Tuesday, July 19, at 8.30pm on Nine.

  1. I agree the new series looks great but by the time Nine get around to airing it 4 of the 6 for S17 will have aired in the UK, yes there are just 6 shows in series 17. I’m assuming more will come at the end of the year (or Jan 2012) in the UK, ready for Nine in Feb 2010.

If Nine had this last week then many they would have one their first week in 2011?

  2. @Ruddege Yeah…that was fantastic ay? The E-Type film was very good though. Best film (and most informative) Top Gear has done. The first episode really is a fantastic TG episode. Don’t miss it.

  3. Sorry 9, you mucked us about too much and we’ve given up on the show… Besides, there’s already too many other good programs on Tuesday nights now. Stick it on a Sunday night and I’ll rethink, maybe.

  4. AGT Grand Final and Winners and Losers.Tough choice to make from 9pm onwards.stick with 9 for the full hour from 8:30 to 9:30pm or switch over at 9pm to Channel 7.Finally a decent non crime alternative show elsewhere other than 7 and ABC/SBS

  5. @Ruddeger – agree, it was a welcome return to what made the series good in the first place. Wonder if Nine will be able to do something as boring as showing all of the eps, unedited, in order, without gaps or specials to try and extend the series artificially? Bets anybody?

  6. Yeah good point about the local version, also what about the US version. Seriously with 3 channels they still have programing sitting on the shelfs for months after they aired in the US/UK!

  7. Both the episodes of the new season have been amazing.
Agree with Ruddeger, The Hot Hatch race on the Monaco track during the F1 race weekend is definitely one of my favorite segments. It would have been even better if the swapped the Renault for a Golf GTi or an Alfa Romeo Mito (Abarth version).
Any one else find Amy Williams cute??

  8. What ever happened to the Aussie version? I don’t really like it as much but they said it would be on soon after the last UK series aired in Australia.
