Super Rugby Final breaks Pay TV records

Saturday night's Super Rugby Final broke records for Subscription TV, beating a 2009 World Cup Qualifier match.

Saturday night’s Super Rugby Final broke records for Subscription TV, pulling 518,000 viewers (metro + regional) on FOX Sports 3 and FOX Sports 3HD.

The victory by the Queensland Reds surpassed the 431,000 viewers for the World Cup Qualifier match between the Socceroos and Uzbekistan in April 2009. Many more would have watched in clubs across the country.

It was also 185,000 more viewers than the previous most watched Super Rugby broadcast, which was 333,000 for the 2008 decider between the Crusaders and Waratahs.

The numbers are timed nicely before the Pay TV industry celebrates its annual achievements at the upcoming ASTRA Awards, and has seen Australia’s only dedicated rugby magazine show, The Rugby Club, enjoy a boost to its audience.

  1. It peaked at 696,000 and if you add those on fox iq plus those watching in pubs and bars it would have got i and half million i reckon. Good on the reds and rugby union.

  2. The super rugby was actually created for paytv and nothing else. When they used to allow it to be shown on fta, no one bothered to watch or the network would bury it at some unreasonable hour.
