From Monday night TEN will no longer be screening 6:30 with George Negus in late night replays.
TEN Late Night News/Sports Tonight will resume at an earlier time, usually 10:30pm.
The late night replays were a smart way of attracting new eyeballs to the show, but has it diminished the numbers at 6:30pm?
We’ll know soon, although it will take more than 1 or 2 episodes to see a trend.
The show is rumoured to have until the end of the year to improve its performance.

so wait, what about ten late news and sports tonight? are they axed as well? I’m confused
There are rumours of this in the future, but no they return to 10:30pm.
I am thinking Ten will go back to the drawing board and think of something to give Degrassi Next Generation/New 90210 a run for their money as a 6:30pm offering and get close to the 700,000 viewers a night Neighbours was getting back in the day. After all it was the only thing ABC offerings aside that wasn’t a crummy Current Affairs Show.
Hopefully they put Neighbours back on at 6:30. This time last year it was getting over 700k viewers, much better than George Negus’ performance.
Just Catch up on the episode missed an hour or two later the same night if you can’t be there at 6:30pm to watch.I predict within a year His Show will be gone and most likely a 90210 type show or something similar will fill the gap.The Idiots who decided on a triple news/current affairs line up from 5 to 7pm weeknights obviously are all over the age of 40 and don’t have teenage/twenty something and above kids.
George Negus and 7pm Project both need to go. Firstly, George’s show, I find quite boring and unenthusiastic. I question whether he even cares about half the things he talks about. 7pm project, it doesn’t work too well for me either. It can be a little funny and a little serious..i don’t know..something’s not quite right- those 2 things aren’t mixing well on the program. I don’t think they care about half the stories on there show either.
OMG – Vee and you know how to run a TV Station????…when everyone else is an expert…do you know how hard it is in some cases to do programming…. when you have accounts breathing down your neck to get revenue up and the only way revenue goes up is to get ratings up…. and is something isnt working…. get out your boning knife
About time too.I miss the days of either a decent animated sitcom or something a lot lighter than George on Late Night Television.Maybe this means Letterman will now be put on at a more sensible hour.
Being a rural resident that watches the local news, the Sydney news, I’ve been thankful for the 6.30 encores – another stuff up by Channel Ten.
I swear none of these commercial television stations know how to run a commercial television station.
The best 6.30pm show to watch is Prsioner on 111 Hits- Love it!
Ten also need to axe Ten Late News and Sports Tonight, if they’re genuinely serious about their cost cutting program and launching a 6 – 9 am breakfast show.
hey @tim and @ED and @thedibs…try this thing called record-ing it…its great it allows you to watch some thing later…and hey you can even tell your VHS or PVR to record it every night Wow…then you can watch it at the same time and it will be like you are in control….!!!
We blogged, we blogged, we blogged, we blogged, we kept blogging, and then Ten listened.
Hopefully this move now shows in the ratings. Ten needs to keep it no matter what though. Even if they swap Negus for the delicious Hamish McDonald
Not sure about everyone else, I like Negus journalistic direction for the program but actually enjoy it better when it’s hosted by Hamish… I think maybe it’s time for the older generation to move aside and let the younger guys have a crack at it.
THey should have put the late news with sports tonight on first, and then George Negus
6.30 Negus needs to be just at 6.30, so truer 6.30 numbers can be known once and for all, great move made to drop the 10.30 Encore of it. TLN/ST needs to have the 10.30 timeslot, so that people can rely on it, then all the different times it has been starting at after 11.
@The dibs
Great idea but will probably not happen. As for the show, I was wondering if George is the right man for it. Love the concept but I think a younger, more energetic and up and coming presenter will do wonders for it.
This is a real shame. Some people don’t get home from work until after 7pm. I would always watch the replay at 10.30 as i am a strong supporter of the show. Ten should reply it at 11pm after the late news. Very disappointed with this news.
Good move, only problem now Ferguson and Letterman will bump into each other more often, wish they would re-run Ferguson after Letterman on TEN each night.
I can not watch it at 6.30, but always caught up with it later. Shame but I used enjoy Nightline on Nine. Maybe Seven can repeat Today Tonight
Good move.
A good move by Ten. They need to ease back a little on the excessive news and current affairs content in prime time.
Yay, miss the news on earlier, dont feel like long stories at 11PM, just want the headlines.
Thank God… about time
I like what Negus brings to the table but not if it’s at Sandra’s expense. It was looking very plausible that Late News would be axed and for what? For 6.30 to get the chop anyway in 2012? No point in that, as for 6.30 well this move can only increase ratings so a wise move.
I must admit I had fallen into the pattern of watching the late night replay, as it’s more convenient for me, so it’s disappointing yet understandable that it’s gone now.
