Updated: Former Australian Idol judge Jay Dee Springbett has died, aged just 36, after paramedics responded to a call for a cardiac arrest.

Former Australian Idol judge Jay Dee Springbett has died.

The 36-year-old Sony music executive was found unconscious in a room at a Woolloomooloo hotel late yesterday after paramedics responded to a call for a cardiac arrest.

A NSW Police spokesman said the death was not suspicious.

Springbett was a judge on Idol‘s final season, replacing Kyle Sandilands after he was sacked over a controversial segment on his Sydney radio show in July, 2009.

UK-born Springbett, a Senior Director of A&R for Sony Records, was rarely comfortable with the demands of being a judge on the show.

“I feel like I’m starting to find my feet,” he said at the time.

“I’m not here to be a clown. I’m here to unearth talent.”

Former host Andrew Gunsberg wrote of his shock over Springbett’s death on Twitter.

“I’m completely sidelined by the news of Jay Dee Springbett’s death,” he wrote.

“My deepest thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”

Updated: Kyle Sandilands, who was supposed to meet with him today told 2DAY FM listeners, “Jay Dee was a good bloke. A lot of people thought because he took my place on Idol that we didn’t get along.

“Love to his family and all is friends too.”

A TEN statement said, “We are deeply saddened by this morning’s news. Our heartfelt condolences goes out to Jay Dee’s family at this very difficult time,.

“Jay Dee was an asset to the final season of Australian Idol, we feel honoured to have worked with him.”

  2. Very sad. I liked him on Idol – you could tell he was pretty uncomfortable being there.

The Morning Show said he had 2 young daughters under 5 – too sad.
