MTV will air the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater to Australian viewers at 10am AEST on Monday August 29th.
Today Lady Gaga confirmed to thousands of fans in Times Square that she will open the Awards.
Gaga’s VMA announcement was made the same night her “You and I” video made its US television premiere.
In addition to performing, Lady Gaga is nominated for four Moonmen including Best Female Video (“Born This Way”), Best Art Direction (“Judas”), Best Choreography (“Judas”) and Best Video with a Message (“Born This Way”).
“It means the world to me,” Gaga said of opening the 2011 VMAs. “I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans.”
She joins previously announced 2011 VMA performers including Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Young The Giant.

The nominations this year are hopeless. I think Lady GaGa’s Judas is the video of the year. The attention to detail is stunning.
