Australian viewers to miss X Factor (USA)

Australian viewers won't be seeing Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul reunite on The X Factor USA because it conflicts with the local series.

It’s set to be one of the biggest shows on US TV next month but Australian viewers won’t be seeing The X Factor (USA).

The talent series that reunites Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul will be kept off screen because it conflicts with The X Factor Australia.

FremantleMedia Australia confirmed to TV Tonight that parties prefer not to dilute the brand.

This follows similar advice from Channel Seven last month. As the format holder, Seven doesn’t envision screening both shows at the same time, while it has paid a premium to produce the local edition featuring Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Mel B.

That also rules out Foxtel from being able to pick up the series for the immediate future.

But what if there is another Susan Boyle moment?

This week Foxtel announced it would screen America’s Got Talent, featuring Sharon Osborne, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan later this year, while GO! screens The Voice (US) from next week.

  1. Strange decision as well all know how easy it is download the eps within moments of them going to air in the Us anyway. It’s why Nine had to bring back Survivor – the overwhelming numbers in Aust downloading it made it impossible to ignore.
