  1. put Dr Who on a Saturday morning like kids shows…are you kidding! Try watching the show and you’ll see that most people won’t let their young ones watch it..Dr Who is and always has been border line horror…it’s brilliant!

  2. @George And where is all the money coming from for this grand plan of yours? Not from you, obviously, if you’re illegally downloading programs. The more people that do that, the less local programming there will be. TV isn’t a charity, it’s a business.

  3. @tmorgan, if you’ve never watched Dr Who, in particular the current season with it’s continuing, and even for long-time viewers rather confusing, backstory, you’ll likely find it rather unrewarding.

I’d suggest you start with at least the previous season’s episodes to get a feel for the characters and storylines before plunging into the current season (particularly into the middle of it). At least read the Wikipedia article on Doctor Who first or you risk becoming totally lost in the first ten minutes!

  4. There is loads of BBC content on PayTV, BBC Knowledge, BBC World and UKTV are just the start, other channels like 13th street have loads of UK shows. On Free the ABC has a lot and the other channels fill most gaps in the market.

The ABC is bringing us the new Doctor Who eps sooner than they used to but it still would have been better if they could truly fast track it just hours after the UK on the ‘traditional’ Sunday night where it used to be since the remake started.

That said I’m better 99% of the audiance won’t care it’s almost a week old, it’s only the hard core fans who want it sooner.

And I agree David, I doubt any FTA network like the BBC would broadcast directly into Australia when they get their funding from other governments.

I’m just glade we’re not having to wait until October, like some rumors suggested when we were told this season was to be split into 2 parts.

  5. It wil be a Magnificent six episodes!!!!

@ Ben: AH ha ha ha ha ha ha aaaaaaa! You are such a funny boy …. but sadly too predictable!

@ tmorgan: Do it!!! You won’t regret a second of it!

@ Craig: Yes, Ben will be soon be writhing in agony again … Christmas Special is underway, next season is roaring ahead to another 13 episodes and … 2013 is the 50th Anniversay so that will be so big it will probably send Ben round the twist! (I hear an evil laugh from The Master echoing in the distance!)

@ George: What? Australian TV fully local??? Are you trying to bore us all to death??? that would be the death of Oz TV….

@ Dyson: Spot on!! On Sunday and, most importantly … in HD!!!!!!! (Damn it!) Oh, hang on, the ABC only buy the SD version don’t they???

  6. Will be seeing it via other means instead in native HD and without those annoyingly amateur silly pop-ups that ABC wrecks shows with. We should have the BBC and other overseas networks direct nowadays. The days of Australian TV being cheapskates by filling their schedules with overseas programming should be at an end by now if they want to stay relevant. Its high time Australian TV was fully local.

    1. George, BBC is funded by British taxpayers. Are you really suggesting they subsidise your viewing? We do have some BBC content on Pay TV if it interests you that much. ABC is fast-tracking the series which is a vast improvement on previous seasons.

  7. @Dyson – sounds like and excellent idea!

@Doctor Ry – Good point but unlike Torchwood I very much doubt the BBC would let the US see it first, I’m sure the UK will see it a few hours before the US on the 27th or August, just a same we don’t get it on Sunday the 28th, local time.

  8. At the risk of being annoyingly pedantic, “within a week” is a call that can’t be made as the BBC have yet to announce their date of broadcast. BBC America have (27th August) but BBC 1 has not. Just for the sake of accuracy…

  9. I agree with Craig it’d be better on Sunday within hours of the U.K. and North American broadcasts. Especially the former. That way people might be able to avoid spoilers.

I’m wondering though are they planing on ruining them with those annoying and useless pop-ups. Unless they secretly wish everyone to watch it online to get the unmessed up version. I’ll point out iView doesn’t work for a lot of areas.

  10. David,
The only problem with your exclusive is that the ABC TV Guide says differently for Saturday 3rd September- it states at 7:30pm that the show “KIngdom” is airing
    Have a look at
    abc.net.au/tv/guide/all/netw/201109/20110903.htm

  11. “It will be the first time that new episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood would be on Australian TV if not the world.”

I meant to say it would be the first time that new episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood would be on Australian TV on the same nights.

  12. The first two episodes of the second half of the Doctor Who season on ABC1 will coincide with the last two episodes of Torchwood: Miracle Day.on UKTV on the same Saturday nights.

It will be the first time that new episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood would be on Australian TV if not the world.

  13. Yay! Finally they have announced an air date. I was getting worried that we would have to wait longer to see it. The rest of the season looks really really good. I’m already counting down the days until Doctor Who is back on the telly!

  14. Great!! The sooner it airs the sooner we can all move on from this rubbish. Personally I think they should air it Saturday mornings with the rest of the kid shows.

  15. Thanks for the good news David but ‘within a week’ is a close call since it will be about 6.5 days after the UK. DW should be on Sundays, then it would be just hours after the UK.

But Yay, 3 weeks to go!
