The Kitchen Musical

If you thought MasterChef The Musical was just pie in the sky, think again....

If you thought the idea of MasterChef The Musical was just pie in the sky, think again….

A musical drama being filmed in Singapore has just been stitched up for international rights by Ben Silverman (The Office, Ugly Betty, The Biggest Loser, Kath and Kim).

Fusing both Glee-style musical elements and culinary themes, the The Kitchen Musical concerns a rich girl who goes to work at a restaurant after graduating from famed Paris culinary school Le Cordon Bleu.

“We think it’s a big, broad, accessible idea that’s got a bit of everything: a cooking element, a musical, an Upstairs / Downstairs dynamic and a little bit of Romeo and Juliet,” Silverman told Variety.

He will begin formally pitching the show in the US in September.  Silverman’s company, Electus, will co-produce the U.S. version with an experienced showrunner and choreographer-director already attached.

The Asian production will debut in October across 18 countries over a mix of broadcast and pay TV channels.

So bizarre it may just work. But can we please call it the Kitsch-en Musical?

  1. believe me when i say that this series is bad. And i don’t even mean the “so bad its good” kind… no its really bad as in sucks big time. I mean Viva Laughlin bad.

Seriously, you can even tell they’re lipsynching because the movements don’t match with the sound! I’m Asian and I am literally ashamed of this show. The concept is so poorly created that its a waste of the good talent (or some talent) that are in the show. I’ve seen 2 episodes and couldn’t bear any more…

  2. George Colombaris doing a remix of “Zorba the Greek”; Matt Preston doing his Jean Valjean medley; Matt Moran doing his”The King And I” – no thanks.

  3. I thought it was so bad that it was fantastic – I’d watch it just for the perverse delight of it – it’s certainly better than the footy shows, or the shows that pretend to be current affairs programmes in this country. Bring it on!!
