MasterChef contestant Hayden Quinn was one of the first on the scene when a light plane crashed into the sea at North Curl Curl on Sydney’s northern beaches today.
Quinn, a local lifeguard, was training nearby when the two-seater Cessna crashed into the sea about 50m from the beach about 10.15am. He is believed to have helped with the rescue effort and clean up.
A 32-year-old man was helped to the shore by witnesses from a nearby building site and was briefly treated on the rocks before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
But the body of the light plane pilot was later retrieved from the aircraft, which was submerged at 15 metres.

Who?
sorta reiterates contestants on shows are people with lives, easy to forget and make them targets of easy ridicule sometimes.
Hat off to all lifesavers in this country.
@ deedeedragons…..It was news to me….and I enjoyed reading the story…
Dont whinge….no one forced you to click on this story…
@deedeedragons – I guess it is news. Okay maybe not as much as the Richard Branson fire where Kate Winslet rescued his mum.
Nine News Melb named him as Masterchef’s Hayden.
My 7 Yr old said it was Hayden from Masterchef on the news (9 news) and he was right.
I saw him on the news but ch 9 did not say it was Hayden Quinn but someone else. The news segment is on the nine news website in the video section.
He did he’s job (and a good thing too) but this isn’t news.
A real Gem of a man.
