Nine appoints new boss for GTV

Nine promotes Director of Sales Ian Paterson to the role of Managing Director for GTV9 Melbourne.

The Nine Network has announced a new Managing Director for GTV9 Melbourne.

He is Ian Paterson, currently Director of Sales at Nine.

Paterson takes up the role which had been left vacant after former GTV9 boss Jeffrey Browne was promoted to Nine’s Managing Director role in Sydney.

Browne said: “This is a key appointment in our network and I am fortunate to have someone of Ian’s calibre, integrity and energy to lead our team in Melbourne.

“Melbourne is a crucial market for us and our brand there is one of the strongest in town. With productions such as Millionaire Hot Seat, The Footy Show, numerous outside broadcasts and a new version of The Block coming on line, as well as our news and current affairs operations, Ian will have a wider and more varied responsibility to add to his undoubted expertise in sales.”

Paterson said: “The opportunity to take on this role within the most successful television business in Melbourne is an honour. Whilst our heritage speaks for itself, it’s about our future path. Our recent move to Docklands is evidence of commitment to future success.”

Replacing Paterson will be Michael Stephenson as Nine’s General Manager Sales.

Peter Wiltshire, Group Sales and Marketing Director, said: “Michael has had vast experience with over 15 years in the media, having worked for all the major networks and in four of Australia’s five capital cities, as well as a two-year stint at ninemsn.

“This role will see his responsibilities broaden across the network and I look forward to having him as a key member of the sales leadership team across the group.”

Yesterday Nine announced a new Melbourne Sales Director, Matt Scriven

Paterson’s appointment is effective immediately with Stephenson to begin on Monday.

  1. All these new appointments at Nine won’t make one whit of difference to us viewers until they get rid of the numpty in charge of program scheduling. The recent farce over the last-minute rescheduling of the Rugby being the latest example.

  2. @Jeremy

    A Current Affair
    AFL Footy Show,
    Hot Seat
    Kids WB
    9 news Melbourne
    Sunday Footy Show
    Footy Classified

But yes there seems to be less Programming coming out of GTV these days…

  3. Are Hot Seat and the Footy Show the only programs that Nine still records in Melbourne? Such a long way from the 90s, where every other Australian show had that “Made in Melbourne” badge on it during promos.
