SBS hires John Mangos

SBS has recruited sacked SKY News presenter John Mangos for a month-long stint reading weekend bulletins.

Good to hear that John Mangos is heading back to the small screen after being dumped by SKY News.

His attempt at humour some months ago was out of line, but SKY’s move to dump him while it was in negotiations with Chinese broadcasters and bidding for the Australia Network contract was more indicative of politics than the offence itself.

SBS has recruited him for a month-long stint reading weekend bulletins.

“Yes, I’m very excited about it and, contrary to popular belief, it isn’t a homecoming for me as I’ve never worked at SBS before,” he told News Ltd. yesterday.

Hopefully he’ll be seen for more than just a month.

  1. I for one think he seems like a good bloke, and am sick of all this political-correctness crap. Guy makes one bad joke and suddenly hes evil racist man.

Good on him – nice to see him back on TV where he belongs (and I too thought he was ‘returning’ to SBS — although the Pizza connection probably explains it).

  2. John Mangos was a quiet shiny star when he was on Coast to Coast with Graham Kennedy. He played the sidekick role well whilst still reading news in a respectful manner. His career has some highs and lows.
I wish him all the best on SBS.
    Everybody makes mistakes.
    Gime him a break.

  3. He will be a good fit for SBS. Hopefully he gets employed on a permanent basis. I too remember him on the cult comedy Pizza. Similar to Deryn Hinch’s role in the Wog Boy. Cant wait to se him on FTA screens.

  4. I just saw him on a blooper yesterday discussing the non-blackness of Nicole Richie’s skin. “Her father is Lionel Richie right? The African American?”
    Um.
He is to Australian news what Robert Downey Jnr is to Hollywood. Bad move, SBS.
