The Fonz, OBE.

Former Happy Days star Henry Winkler has been given an honorary OBE by the Queen.

Former Happy Days star Henry Winkler has been given an honorary OBE by the Queen, but not for giving us ‘Jump The Shark’ (that’s at least worth being named as a Duke?)

Winkler has instead been rewarded for his work on dyslexia in the UK.

Having been diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult, Winkler has spent time touring schools in the UK over the last two years to talk about the learning difficulty. He has also written books for children about Hank Zipzer, a boy with dyslexia, based on his own childhood struggles.

Winkler described the honour as a very humbling experience.

“My goal when I started working with children was never to bring accolades on myself, but instead to change how people think about those around them for whom learning is a struggle,” he said.

“I am flattered to have had my work recognised in this manner, and hope to continue showing kids that their learning difficulty isn’t a disability.”

He was presented with an OBE by the British ambassador to the US, Nigel Sheinwald, in Washington DC. The honorary OBE can be bestowed on non-British nationals for their contribution to British interests.

Definitely worthy of a place in The Fonz’s restroom office followed by a night at Inspiration Point with Pinky Tuscadero.

C’mon. You were thinkin’ it.

  1. Henry Winkler is truly one of the best. He went from an actor to tv show creator to now a spokesperson for Dyslexia, he should get a higher acolade. I know he wouldnt want one well at least not publically still he deserves one.
