Two And A Half Men tops the week

By David Knox on September 25, 2011 / Filed Under News 13

The first move on fast-tracking paid off for Nine last week with Two and a Half Men topping the week on a booming 2.31m viewers.

Audiences were clearly intrigued to see how Ashton Kutcher fared in his new role. It reflected big audiences in other territories including the US, UK and Canada. Or was it just to learn the fate of Charlie Harper?

Even a repeat episode pulled 1.7m viewers -prompting Nine to rush reruns back into the 7pm timeslot from tomorrow night. The real test will come this week when we discover how many return for the Kutcher episodes and whether Sheen reruns will damage that interest.

But Ashton Kutcher still couldn’t help Nine win the week from Seven in Week 39.

Seven’s best was Packed to the Rafters on 1.64m viewers followed by The X Factor on 1.45m.

TEN managed to make the Top 20 this week with an AFL match pulling just under 1.1m viewers.

There was also a shake-up in multichannels with ELEVEN snatching second place, while ABC2 bettered ONE.

@ Brenton: it would seem your theory would work. If the rest of the siblings leave the show the original premise for the show is redundant. As it is only the baby lives at home, with 2 Granddads!
The show could become a struggle for viewers with more major cast changes!
@ Moanique: I agree Rafters is getting great ratings! They have dipped a little in this run of eps compared to all other seasons! I hoe it keeps viewers, but am not sure if it will! Other dramas deserve better ratings, but Rafters has a broader appeal!
We shall see what Executives decide if more cast changes are imminent.

If I was 9 I would wait to see how Ep2 of the new season goes before I show repeats!
Are they going to start from the beginning or go from anywhere?
What is the point or logic?

    @ pietro

Regarding ABC News 24. That 0.6 is only the primetime figures i.e. 6pm-12am. Unless someone has more knowledge in this area could tell us if it’s different. The problem with that is except when there’s real news or for Q&A they only show their hour programmes on the hour. Because they clash with almost every other channel including ABC1 it makes it unlikely for me as a viewer to watch it primetime. Hence presumably the dreadful numbers during primetime as I don’t think it’s just me. I’ll also point out since I’m on the East Coast I watch Q&A on ABC1 . As I forget about Ch 24 also if I do remember I think at the moment ABC1 has the less offensive watermark so would choose it anyway (if only ABC1 would get rid of it completely for at least the main ABC channel as a message that we don’t ruin our programmes ) . BTW I often watch ABC News 24 during non-primetime periods. But only watch it during primetime if I’m waiting for Lateline to start or something happened that was a real news event which doesn’t happen everyday. Nor would I want it to. Plus I don’t care when something starts as long as it has the news.

By the way I’m glad it exists I just wish they’d acknowledge that in Australia hour programmes start on the half hour not the hour. At least during primetime. And stop copying overseas news services i.e. switch to on the half hour news service. You’re in Australia for Australia. Although I do like the BBC stuff they have as well as the catch up they provide plus news during the day. For some of us iView is noView or crapView. So that part is great. Thank you.

    PS – Sorry David.

  4. Bre Saxs September 25, 2011 at 6:50 pm -

In regards to the 2.5 Men 7pm repeats, as it’s Charlie’s last season (8) that is being played will Twanging Your Magic Clanger be shown? I ask as the episode has adult themes.

Quite enjoyed Ashton’s first episode, but with Charlie gone, will Rose still be a part of the series?

  5. Moanique in Brisbane September 25, 2011 at 6:36 pm -

@ Mick, ratings for Rafters were actually up on the previous couple of weeks. I don’t think Rafters has anything to worry about. Offspring, Rush, and many other shows can only dream about getting 1.6m

  6. Cookie September 25, 2011 at 4:12 pm -

For God sake @Mick Packed to the Rafters was the weeks highest rating Aussie show

  7. Brenton September 25, 2011 at 2:51 pm -

The writers of Packed To The Rafters should be planning out no more than 48 episodes (2 seasons) of the series. The actors all seem to want to leave and go and do other things and having a fixed end to the series will make the PTTR one of the best in Australia’s history, instead of it dragging out then being axed.
Me personally I started to lose interest in PTTR after the about 30 episodes, but still watch it. I really enjoyed W&L as it’s more adult viewing, but can’t stand Wild Boys or as I call it (Stick Your Hands Up, Give Me Your Money). And of course H&A is my religion at 7pm or should I say 7:04pm expect Fridays when it starts at 7pm. I got a bit off topic there. Lol

  8. tvGUY September 25, 2011 at 2:19 pm -

I think 2 and a half men is going to have a great season.. althou watching Ashton Kutcher in this new role was like watching that 70′s show. haha

  9. Jeremy September 25, 2011 at 2:14 pm -

Ratings for the 2.5 Men repeat were up for two reasons: 1) Many people hadn’t kept up with new and old eps, so wanted to see the end of last season and how it worked into the new season. 2) The show hasn’t been on every day, so got some appeal back.

If Nine go back to showing it five nights a week, the ratings will drop each week from week three, slowly, but surely.

  10. franz chong September 25, 2011 at 1:59 pm -

Not More 2.5 men reruns.By the way what happened to Nine’s decision to replace Charlie Sheen with Karl Stefanovic and a News/Chat Show.I guess If the reruns tank they can start production on the latter

  11. Mick September 25, 2011 at 1:02 pm -

With main characters leaving and ratings down finally getting beaten this week, is this the beginning of the end for Rafters?

  12. Craig September 25, 2011 at 12:42 pm -

No not more 2.5 Men re-runs! Why are they doing that again? If I want to watch old eps I’ll get the DVDs or turn on Fox8. Nine is still not learning from the mistakes in it’s past.

  13. pietro September 25, 2011 at 12:23 pm -

ABC News24 seems permanently stuck on 0.6. What an incredible waste of money.
