Dexter salary talks break down

Season 7 of Dexter is in doubt with Showtime and Michael C. Hall unable to agree on his fee.

First The Simpsons, now Dexter?

The Showtime drama is facing uncertainty due to salary negotiations with its star Michael C. Hall.

Deadline reports talks broke down between Hall’s representatives and the cable network after Showtime offered $20 million for two more seasons and Hall’s team asked for $24 million.

Either price tag would make him one of the highest-paid actors in cable -but Dexter is also one of cable’s biggest shows.

The sixth season premiered this week to 2.2 million viewers, up 24% from last year.

Sources indicate that the network remains hopeful about reaching a deal.

Bloody hope so…

  1. Like Joel said, Dexter is screened on a Pay channel. Those other sitcoms are Free to watch. So Showtime makes a lot of money of Michael C. Hall and the show. And after expenses, MCH will be taking home about 5–7 million at the most.

  2. Hmm. Hugh Laurie gets something like half a mill per ep of House, and the main SVU actors get around the same I think. At 20-24 eps a season they are on something like 10-12 million a year.

There are only 12 eps of Dexter in a season. So whether he carries the show or not, asking for 12 million a season – which is a million an ep – seems excessive.

  3. Thanks DB!!! comparing Dexter to Big Bang is like comparing Green Lantern to Dark Night. Dexter is here, it will be gone soon enough and I will miss it a great deal, much like Six feet Under. Michael C worth every peny!! what a talent!! all those theater actors always seem to have biggest chops!! war!! Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire and of course Dexter!!!

  4. The ending of last season was actually pretty good upon a second viewing. It set up a lot of things and added new elements to a whole bunch of relationships.

Also, the first ep of the new season is kinda setting up Dexter getting discovered also. The stars are aligning it seems.

  5. I agree the ending of season 5 was a copout, and Deb has to find out about Dexter eventually. But this show is too good to end right now, unlike other shows that went past their prime (i.e. Prison Break and 24), Dexter still has a lot of life in it.

I reckon eight or nine seasons is a good amount.

  6. Why can’t these bloody *excuse the pun* be happy with what they paid?! 20 million is enough, I’m sure most of us would be happy with that salary! I don’t understand what a difference of 4million dollars is going to make to this guy? I understand he is a great actor and also producer as well, but far out, don’t ruin the show just because you’re greedy!

  7. Dexter is on premium cable (Showtime) so 2.2 mil is 2.2 mil paying top dollar to watch him/the show unlike big bang which is free to air tv so yeah Huge differance

  8. Big Bang is a sitcom and is cheap laughs. You can’t compare. Michael C Hall is the show.

Methinks the network bigwigs should hope they don’t end up glad wrapped to a autopsy table.

  9. So he’s being offered 10 million a year?

Not even the stars of The Big Bang Theory are on that. I know it’s different because they’re an ensemble but TBBT gets an average of 14 million viewers compared to the 2 million Dexter gets…
