Gone: An Idiot Abroad

Plus an update on Modern Family.

After those disappointing figures last week, TEN has pulled An Idiot Abroad from Wednesday nights.

Beginning tomorrow it will screen the ever-reliable NCIS in the 9:30pm timeslot. Repeat episodes of course.

I guess Karl Pilkington will remain an acquired taste on ONE.

It has also wised up to its mistake of skipping a Modern Family episode tonight and begins Season Three with the first episode “Dude Ranch” after all. It plays at 7:30pm tonight.

  1. Yup, idiots not abroad – they are all at TEN. I watched the first one and found it fascinating, funny, informative – what on earth is wrong with you taking it off after the first episode. I told everyone to watch it next week and, lo and behold, its gone. Don’t treat us like idiots please – at least give people a chance to start watching it.

  2. like alot of other people i couldnt believe channel 10 had pulled the plug on an idiot abroad and replaced it with another episode of ncis it seems like the idiots are not abroad .There here

  3. After watching an idiot abroad last week and laughing so much that I had tears running down my face!!! I was so looking forward to watching it this week. What a disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sick of reality shows and repeats of programmes you have already seen!? Channel 10 what were you thinking!!! So where do I go to watch this show?

  4. Absolutely gutted An Idiot Abroad had been taken off…. Where can we watch the rest of the episodes!! Why do they do this over here, start you watching something then just pull it!! Outrageous…

  5. I don’t get One as I’m a Foxtel (sat) subscriber and this is not available. I never bothered to get an antenna installed because I’ve always thought free-to-air is a load of bollocks (“So I Think I Can Sing”, “So I Think I Can Dance”, “So I Think I Can Cook”, “So I Think I’m A TV Show” etc. etc.) I heard IA was showing on One and was very disappointed that I missed it. When I discovered on Ten last week I was excited and rushed home tonight to watch this weeks episode, only to find it cancelled. Why can’t we watch these shows on download after they’ve been broadcast?? I’m happy to sit through 75% ad-breaks to enjoy certain shows. Not happy C10. Not rushing out to get my antenna installed either.

  6. Not having access to ONE, this was our first experience with the show and like Camilla, we laughed and laughed during the first episode. We had put time aside to watch this week only to be disappointed to see it had not been aired without any warning. I suspect that NCIS viwers would have also been aanoyed that they had received little advance warning of the change. TEN shows once again its contempt for its general audience.

  7. I’m incredibly disappointed about the loss of An Idiot Abroad. It’s the Only thing on TV I actually want to watch and I can’t believe someone’s decided that people want to watch More boring crime & detective programmes – as if we don’t have enough already. After last week’s episode I have been looking forward to it all week, am gutted. When will Australian TV actually put on some quality again instead of all the garbage we usually get bombarded with???

  8. Where is “An idiot abroad”… ??
We laughed and Laughed last week and were hanging for it this week to find it has been cancelled!!!
what about the people who thought it was gold!!!
    is there choice???
    bring back the Idiot!!

  9. What are channel 10 thinking…..I think the mindless people watching the same old shows are creating a channel I rarely watch. Went looking for AIA after seeing it for the first time last week……so funny…..so spot on…….and instead another NCIS American crime show….yawn!

  10. @Everybody – I completely agree. I really don’t understand how the people in charge of programming have not seemed to have worked this out by now.

Having recently twice been on One and not exactly rated its **** off, why would it magically work on Ten?

    Just play Bucket List FFS.

  11. I get the impression that the networks still look at their digital multichannels as a testing ground, and a place for the scraps of ratings.

When a show becomes somewhat popular on digital, like ONE, they seem to expect that it must now show on the main channel.

Short term, this might work for some shows and ratings, but it undermines the audience that may appreciate the digital channel for what it is – not needing to find good content on one of the original channels.

  12. Good to see “Dude Ranch” will be airing tonight. Not sure why they originally decided to skip an episode. It would’ve been stupid to advertise the “season premiere” of Modern Family and play Episode 2. Thanks for the update David.

  13. That’s what happens Ten when you screw viewers by changing series at the last minute.AIA had already been run twice on ONE in recent months.

Should’ve shown series 2,which is better than 1.

  14. What would we do without you, David. I empathise with those viewers who get attached to a new show, only to have it removed, relocated, buried! I don’t think i have ever witnessed such reactive times from the commercial networks. The drive for pre-eminence seems to just alienate viewers, whether it’s flogging a hit to death, or banishing product that has barely had time to settle in. No wonder people are downloading, buying box sets and watching on line.
