Josh Thomas: Your Gen not a show without Shaun
Panel members on Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation still don't know if the show will return, but Josh Thomas says, no Shaun Micallef = no show.

There has been speculation for some time that Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation won’t return to TEN next year.
At its 2012 Programming Launch in August TEN said it was too soon to say whether there would be a new season.
Panelist Josh Thomas tells TV Tonight he still doesn’t know the show’s fate.
“I don’t know, they haven’t decided,” he says.
“Why do you think I know anything about this? I promise you, you know more about this than I do.”
There has been talk that multi-talented host Shaun Micallef is keen to pursue other projects rather than only hosting a panel show.
“He wants to go and be an artist. I think he just feels like ‘We’ve done it.’ We sort of do just do the same thing over again, and I think it’s boring for him,” Thomas surmises.
“I don’t know, I don’t want to put words in his mouth, you should ask Shaun.
“But I don’t think it’s a show without Shaun.”

the only way I personally would ever watch this show is if they sacked the entire panel and just left Micallef on his own. Oh wait, they did that on Channel 2 and it was called ummmmmmm….. “Micallef” I think…
@Mike: Aren’t you projecting on Shaun what you would like him to do?
Josh is right the show would not feel right without shaun if he goes channel ten needs to cut their loss
I hope shaun goes to a public broadcaster and does another great series like The Mikalef Program (ABC) or Newstopia (SBS). I am certain thats what he would want to do because that is what he does best.
Yeah right… Shaun has manage to put out a book as well as have an acting part in the upcoming movie ‘The Cup’ all whilst doing this show. So he’s obviously more than a panel show host and has the time to do it all.
If he doesn’t come back you can bet it’s because pay negotiations broke down.
Funny Deadly Dave:)
Shaun…don’t go… don’t leave me……sob…
Whilst there is no doubt that Micallef has a presence, i do get sick of hearing how many people claim he is a genius, or that he is the best comedian in the country. Most do not realise that Micallef has a team of writers that have being with him for for many years. Micallef may utter the jokes or cock the eyebrow but there are many people behind him that make him look funny. Michael Ward being one of the funniest writers and being with Micalleff since Full Frontal
Television has always been about collaboration and I have no doubt Mssrs. Micallef, Ward and others would concur.
@Phoenix727 Micallef has no spontaneity? No wit? I’m not sure how a sentence can get to be more wrong.
I am quite content with Talkin’ going the way of the dodo… so long as Micallef is still doing something on television. He’s pretty much the best comedian the country has ever seen, in my books.
If Shaun Micallef was to do a Talk Show, the format I believe to suit him best would be to do what Graham Norton does, have a couch and 3 Guests out at the same time (with one usually a stand-up comedian), bit like Shaun’s New Years Eve Show I guess.
Shaun could still have his way of doing things with introducing at the opening, interaction with the audience similar to how Norton even has them provide photo’s or be in Pantomimes etc, base it around that concept (not an exact copy of course) and Shaun would shine I believe.
Please TEN, bring back Talkin’ Bout Your Generation.
It is a great show and my sister and I love it (we especially love Josh).
@ Martin,
Give Josh a break, Amanda Keller & The Baby Boomer’s have done “trust me” less times then Josh Thomas & Generation Y. Josh Thomas is a brillant sport in those type of things, including having his own Grandmother tied to the chair in one episode.
Shaun is the glue that holds this show together.
Whatever he decides to do… his fans will follow.
We always do
Micalef is incredibly funny. Anderson, Hills and McDermot haven’t a hair on him. He’s different, quirky, and fantastic.
He needs a format where he interacts with people, that works better for him.. than something like Newstopia (I think).
Personally cant stand Josh, he is very grating and especially cant stand latley how he never lets the guest panellist beside him choose the bottom right game from the board so as to avoid playing ‘trust me’ and getting covered with gunk. The other two permanent panellists let their guest panellits choose, speaks volumes! Get rid of Josh, but keep Shaun.
Martin: My understanding is the categories are already chosen for teams in advance, but they don’t know the questions / games, so I wouldn’t be holding Josh to account for that too much.
Put Hamish and Andy in a show like this.. it suits there more then hosts of Big Brothers – they need a female with quick wit and empathy, and also able to grill diffiicult housemates after they have been evicted. Gretel was perfect.. so if she cant do it maybe Rachael Finch or Natalie Garonzi!
@ Phoenix727…. O.M.G…. that whole paragraph is just a big ball of wrong. You should tell Wil, Adam or Paul that you think they’re witty than Shaun… I think even they will laugh in your faces, (well maybe Paul will agree with you, but that says something more about Paul’s ego)
Mate, Shaun’s humor is clearly Far too intelligent for you which is fine. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I humbly suggest the show has jumped the shark. TIme to breakup, move on, and call it “TAYG World”.
I agree that Shaun makes the show.
If he were to be replaced it wouldn’t be the same…
I wish TAYG was a show without Josh Thomas. He was so bad in the final episode I had to just quit after about 40 minutes in, I couldn’t take the pain of seeing and hearing him any more.
And it has nothing at all to do with his sexual preference before anyone goes crazy at me, he just has a horribly grating personality.
If Shaun goes, the show should go too.
If it stays, please fewer “theme” shows. Do a couple but every other week was a theme this year.
I just don’t see it personally. I think the show’s ok, but the reason I don’t watch IS Shaun McCallef, he’s a descent enough actor but he has no spontinity. He doesn’t have the wit of a Wil Anderson, Adam Hills or Paul McDermott, humour just comes naturally to them. With Shaun it’s like watching someone give birth, its an ugly and painful experience and unlike birth something beautiful does not come out the other end.
Ten, do yourselves a favour, keep the show and find someone with a quick wit and a charming personality to host and you’ll be fine. (Hint: It’s Not Colin Lane.)
